Any idea if Microsoft Teams app or Slack are effected by this transition to UIA? For that matter, is there a way to check for apps like these that are using Chromium as their base? Jonathan

Hi all,
Someone reported on JFW list (hosted on Groups.IO) that the user cannot interact with certain web content displayed in Edge 79 beta, along with a thread on Win10 forum about inability to interact with web content shown in Edge with other screen readers. This issue can be traced to the fact that, in Edge 79 (upcoming stable version), UI Automation is enabled (several reports were sent to Microsoft about this issue). Unfortunately, as an NVDA core developer (not me) notes, UIA implementation in Chromium-based web browsers (including Edge) isn’t solid yet.
To work around this for now, you need to disable UIA support in Edge and other Chromium-based web browsers (if your browser exposes this option). To do so in Edge 79:

Re: Chromium Based Microsoft Edge Beta
The various insider channel (Beta, Dev, & Canary) versions of Edge update themselves. Canary is nightly, Dev is weekly, and Beta approximately every six weeks.
I do not know if the updates follow a phased roll-out schedule or simply go to all users of a given channel at the same time. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Most of the change we think we see in life is due to truths being in and out of favor. ~ Robert Frost, The Black Cottage (1914)

Chromium Based Microsoft Edge Beta
Ron Canazzi
Hi Group,
I have played with this new edge beta on and off for the past few months. With the recent discussion on this list, I opened it and tried updating to the latest beta. I don't see where you can do this in the beta. Can you update an older beta-before 79, from within the browser itself? If not, do you have to go to the web page to get the newest beta? Thanks for any help. -- They Ask Me If I'm Happy; I say Yes. They ask: "How Happy are You?" I Say: "I'm as happy as a stow away chimpanzee on a banana boat!"

Hi, According to Mick Curran from NV Access, UIA implementation in Chromium is not quite solid yet. Cheers, Joseph

How weird! I thought NVDA supported this, in 2019.3? Darn, I thought this was something NVDA could just tap into, the UIA, and then whatever gets updated and otherwise, would automatically reflect because NVDA can already utilize native UI automation. Thanks for the tip! By the way, everybody, it works really really great with Narrator. I eagerly await this support in the core because this new chromium edge is great. Much better than the old edge, IMO.

I have found what is causing this problem.

It is the Gcontactsync extension. I have this enabled all the time to sync my Thunderbird Contacts with my Gmail. The work around I have is to mainly keep this extension disabled. I will reenable it occasionally to sync up my contacts. Jim

For those that use the Photos app to join videos with NVDA
Joshua Tubbs
Hi all,
There is one major issue I am having with the Windows 10 Photos app when it comes to joining videos together. How can I figure out what order the videos are in on the storyboard? They appear correct in the list, however I go and create the video and the video that I want first ends up being the second video in the created file. Help would be much appreciated on this.

Re: ocr solutions
I do wander if you can access windows ocr natively. There are free and payed for ocr packages but there are also universal apps and I may try to see if some of those work to.

Re: ocr solutions
Actually I can already use OCR with nvda, but you can only scan one screen at a time. Hit nvda control R I think is the key stroke. It will then vertualise the window and you can sometimes click on things on the screen, but if it is a pdf I don't actually know how that would work. Sarah Alawami, owner of TFFP. . Hi Ken
Not that I know of. There used to be a pod cast back in the old days with jamie and Mick but that stopped long ago before the time of smart speakers.
There is a in process blog that comes out every 2 weeks but that is more via email
There are resources out there to learn NVDA both free and paid. Mine been free both written and audio but not a podcast at http://www.accessibilitycentral.net
But nothing I am aware of for the echo or google smart speaker.
Maybe a question for Quentin to see if it can be done or how hard to do it.
I do not think they will go down that line but never know.
My self I would not even know how to sub mit any audio tutorials as pod casts to be done trhough the speakers any how.

That's strange that it would be in 7 and not ten. And no, win 7 is not being discontinued, it is not being fully supported.

There is but it only runs on windows 7 which is going to be discontinued in 48 hours (two days). OCR in NVDA is built in on windows 10. If you try to do insert R desktop or caps lock R laptop and your laptop or desktop runs windows 7 it will say, Windows 10 OCR not available.

Hmph, another reason to maybe not use jaws, to be honest, if nvda could have some scanner addon which could use finereader engine and others I'd probably buy it, I mean I'd like a standalone program to but still.
It seems the best way forward is mainstream software then.
I'd like to know if those that use omnipage especially the later versions and the ultimate version especially find it better than abbyy or whatever.
I have a user staying on abyy 12 because its accessible, however, it means I am using older software which will probably go out of date.
There was a time 3 or so years back when the network relied on dragon naturally speaking and an offer/add came up from nuance about omnipage and a rediculous offer on ultimate but I never took that.

Hi list ken here. I’m in our technology division of national federation of the blind of NJ and I’m pretty sure we have some NVDA users. Of course can point them to this list but are there any podcasts available that members could listen to on an echo to get the latest on what’s happening with NVDA? I’ve been a user since 2009 or 2010 and have really seen NVDA grow, and with the pending release of 2019.3 I bet I can get lots of converts. I did promote the NVDA weekend event several years ago in meetings.
