If that is the case use the nvda key + ctrl key + the letter f when the

box that will tell you your last 20 searches etc Can not remember if

Well, that’s interesting – I’ve been following the Edge update thread as well (thanks for the upgrade link)

NVDA with Edge Chromium JUST reads the aria-label text on this page and ignores the <foreignobject> content

…whereas Chrome JUST reads the contents of the <foreignobject> tag and ignores the aria-label.

It’s starting to feel like 2003 again, trying to keep all the different browsers happy….

Hi,

This is my first post here – I develop learning resources for a university and we want to make them NVDA-friendly.

I’m  currently working on a decision tree, which can be seen here:

https://www.creativemedia.org.uk/interactive-trees/filtration-tryout.html

I want to add an invisible description to each node on the tree to help NVDA users navigate.

Below is part of the SVG (Scalable Vector Graphic) from the page: I’ve used the aria-label tag to explain where the node fits in the tree, but my NVDA doesn’t read it out. I’ve also tried title, alt and label in various places but they don’t get read out either.

Can anyone give me any hints or solutions? All I can think of is to use a hidden <div> which I don’t think is an ideal solution.

Thank you

KeePass makes it extremely easy to synchronize your database between devices. In fact, if I update the database on my local computer, it is automatically updated on my iPhone and iPad. Likewise if I update on the iPhone or iPad, it is also updated on my computer. It is free and very secure.

Re: Accessible password managers, again.

I’m personally a 1Password user and am happy with my family plan and while you can find plusses and minuses and even flaws in any option out there, as this Washington Post article outlines, regardless of what service/app you end up picking, the important thing is to use something. Anything.

My email has popped up on some of the data leaks announced these past years, but I don’t really sweat it since it’s often as simple as going in and changing that one password for that one service. They’re also good for hacks like continuously getting introductory  offers or discounts for subscriptions and services. While I’m not hardcore like some people out there who cycle through monthly Amazon Prime one month free offers with different emails and log ins, I do do this for periodicals like the WSJ or the New Yorker or say other services that’ll give you the first year at a discounted rate, but bump you up to the full price the next year. Password managers make keeping track of this sort of stuff super easy.

1Password is fully accessible. Be it for Windows or iOS. I recall some folks saying that Dashlane really wasn’t accessible, but that was a while ago so who knows if there have been any improvements with it since then.

What is the ARIA widget for nvda?

Martin McCormick

In my quest to get the radio programming software which
is stuck in "Tree View" out of the trees and doing something
useful, I was looking at the nvda keyboard shortcut list and
found:

Tabs (ARIA widget),
Tree view items (ARIA widget),
Menu items (ARIA widget) right arrow or down arrow or left arrow or up
arrow

A widget is a routine that handles certain situations and
this widget is probably not running because the programming software is
deficient in some basic design and isn't being triggered.

Anyway, my questions are:

What is the ARIA widget and is there any way to wake it up?

Neither of which is accurate in the world of software development.
Alpha is simply in the earliest stages of development, and may be unstable, but seldom if ever is any of the other things.
Beta is considered to be quite stable, and things released as beta by commercial and many open source entities are considered to be possible release candidates, but will not actually be designated as such until a beta has been used "in the wild" long enough to show that there are not unsuspected issues, most of which would be minor, but possibly annoying.
Alpha software carries a high risk for possible annoyance and failure of that software itself, and very seldom takes anything else along with it.
Beta software can generally be thought of as being stable, with some possible refinements at the periphery that may be needed.   It's not uncommon for something to go from beta to release sans any changes, either.

I figured I'd write a quick update, since my version of Thunderbird just updated when I checked mail. Other than having to close and restart to get the folder tree with inbox and so on to read instead of saying unknown, nothing really seems different. Chrome should work, as should Firefox, but you want a 3rd-party, which is probably smart, give 1password a try. Also, I played around with bitwarden, and it seemed to work pretty well also.

Thanks.

Not that I'd tell anyone they must for the New Edge, as the Insider previews have been rock solid for me and others I know using them, but I'm going to wait it out just to see how long it takes for Windows Update to fetch it for me.  I'll also be curious to see what one might get asked as far as importing favorites, but it will probably just import from the existing "old" Edge favorites.
I'll continue using Edge Dev until it shows up via Windows Update.

Maybe you are right, as I said, I have had a bit more bad luck over the last year so I am probably a bit more sinical then usual, it will pass.

My concern is that your comments are so generalized and, I suspect take a much darker view of betas put out by responsible developers than is justified, that you may frighten people away from trying NVDA betas and thus reduce the pool of users testing for problems.

I have never seen beta used in such a way as to connote cobbled together.  Alpha software is     more the kind of thing you are describing, but beta connotes software that is nearly on the verge of being released and it is being tested to see if unexpected problems occur because programs behave differently on different systems.

And there you have hit the nail on the head jean.

For those that want to test it.

Thats not all users.

If I was a new user, I wouldn't like the idea of having to run a beta just to use something necessarily its like cobbling something together just to access something which I should have access to anyway and doesn't sit right.

It may be different for you, and betas are fine if you want.

Now I don't think the majority of users do, or at least some may not.

I don'

't have figures to back me up either way but still by mentioning the words alpha or beta it implies something that is makeshift, not secure, not stable, could trash windows, could do who knows what.

I have had issues with some software when I got started that took me ages before I realised it was that software and it did put me off testing for a bit.

Things became unstable, windows needed reinstalling, cleanly each time, and this was before win10.

I eventually found the issue and I was able to get it fixed.

Point is, even though I know what I am doing most of the time, I am not that yung pup that goes round reformatting to make things go away as I used to do 15 years ago even though I may autoshrug it on list which I won't do anymore because thats stupid and I just do that for no reason.

I actually want to use my computer.

My life is to busy to really think about things screwing up, unless, I am getting payed for it which from time to time I do.

I am approaching the question of the word beta from a beginner user, and not some people that know the software.

Now I realise our opinions may differ, a lot of them do on other lists and thats fine.

I'm not saying the concern isn't valid.  I'm saying that describing the beta as not stable may discourage people from using it.  Add-ons and stability are two separate matters and I suspect the beta is quite stable for those who want to test it.

Hi,

He is using 2019.2.1 (if I read his posts correctly).

Shaun raised a valid concern: it isn’t feasible to use 2019.3 beta 2 (required to use Edge 79 fully) due to add-ons situation. I’m thinking about a possible temporary workaround for users in this situation.

Cheers,

Joseph

What version of NVDA are you using?  One of the developers sent a message a day or two ago saying that the new beta doesn't freeze with the new Edge browser.  I doubt you are using the new beta.
