Re: screen search again
Hi, A few months ago the combo box you are talking about (search history) did exist under development snapshots. However it was found that it didn’t allow people typing in Chinese, Japanese, Korean and additional languages to perform searches (or rather, delete search texts being typed). As a result, search history was removed. Cheers, Joseph

Ok so I tried the incert ctrl plus f command. That works but if there’s a combo box to show previous search strings I can’t seem to find them.
Any help here?

Hi Clive,

For me, NVDA used to show numbers of unread messages in the tree view of folders when you arrowed over them. With release of 2019.3 beta 2, this no longer works for me. Many others are not having this problem, so there must be something going on with my system.

Re: Dropbox interfering with NVDA when reading Word files
David Griffith
I copy below the email I sent earlier to the list
Not at all stupid Clive.
First of all Windows plus B to get to the notification area / system tray. If you hear notification chevron you should press space on that to open up all your system tray icons to view. You can change settings so that your icons all show all the time but I will give instructions for that in another email if needed. Now cursor left or right until you hear DropBox. If for whatever reason you miss this and hear notification chevron again then press space on this to make sure all your icons are showing. As soon as you hear DropBox press the space bar. This should open up the context menu in DropBox’s case – it does on my system. From this menu select preferences. Tab down to the section where it talks about badges and set this to never show and your problems with opening Office documents should disappear.
N.>B. A regrettable feature of the system tray in Windows is that the key to open up the context menu varies. Sometimes it is enter, sometimes it is space as in this case and sometimes it is the application key. You need to experiment with each icon to see what works.

Re: Accessible text expantion tools.
There is no fully accessible text expansion tool that will cover the whole OS. I've been looking for years, and it seems like none exists. The closest thing you will get is buying NCH's FastFox expansion software. But even that is not fully accessible. Of course, you could always use autocorrect in Microsoft Word, cut, and copy the text, but I'd like one that works universally, myself and is fully accessible. Sadly, no fully accessible option exists.

Hello everyone,
Are their any text expantion tools accessible with NVDA? I've just tried one called Phraise express, and while it is somewhat usable it is not completely accessible. I know of some more options but I thought I'd ask if anyone here had something to recommend. Thanks ALi

Re: screen search
Gene
A screen search is using something such as in JAWS,
the JAWS cursor to search the current screen. NVDA has no way to do this
without using an add-on, but there is an add-on that allows you to virtualize
the current window and thus, search the screen using the NVDA search command,
control NVDA key f in desktop layout. I don't know the laptop
layout.
I don't know the answer to the
original question. I played with the add-on briefly and I didn't see such
an option, but also, I wasn't looking, though I doubt it's there. I would
suggest keeping a record in something like Notepad of previous search
strings. You may have to type them manually there, but that may be the
only way to do what you want to do.

Re: new beta2
Quentin Christensen
In fairness, it's not a stable update yet so users on 2019.2.1 won't see it when they have NVDA check for updates. You'll only find it that way if you were on Beta 1. And just for the record btw, beta 1 will update to beta 2, then any subsequent betas, then Release Candidate 1, and any subsequent release candidates. Finally any of those builds will update to NVDA 2019.3. That way anyone testing out the beta or release candidate builds, doesn't need to specifically move back to the stable channel. Regards Quentin.
