Sorry I  should have made clear I installed Reader view as an extension in Brave – I cannot remember if it was the Chrome or Brave Web store I got the Reader View extension from. . In any case I have never personally come across an Chrome extension that does not also work in Brave.

I saw something recently that Reader View has been removed from Chrome.  In Firefox, I haven't played with other browsers in this respect, the browser determines whether a page meets the criteria where reader  view would be useful and it is only offered on those pages.  So the home page of  a newspaper wouldn't have it.  A page containing an article from the newspaper would.  It is intended for reading text, such as articles and other text intended for reading, not for navigating, such as in a home page.

I use one in the Brave  Browser called Reader View which is presumably identical in Chrome as they use the same engine.

When a page loads in which you want to invoke the reader view bring up the context menu and Reader View options will probably be there.

It may be that the context menu includes an option to show in Reader View or alternatively open link in Reader View – options seem to vary depending on the actual page and where you are focussed when the page opens. Anyway you get used to things working in certain ways on certain sites. I have learnt on some sites for example simply pressing application followed  by S will invoke the Show in Reader View command, but this does not always work.

I contacted the developers to request for a designated Reader View keystroke shortcut but they did not respond. They probably did not really understand the issue for those of us using screenreaders.

Re: Tutorial: Disable UI Automation in the Chromium Edge.

If you are continuing xp I don’t think you can try Chromian Edge. Not unless you upgrade to windows ten.  If you end up on windows ten. You wil have yourself a learning curve.  You will get used to it.  Edge and Chrome are a like if you have used firefox.  They are like firefox.  Windows ten takes getting used to.  You can do it.  I’m afraid you can’t test these new things with xp!  If you intend on staying there.  It wont hurt to ask questions I’ll tell you this. Either way you will end up on windows ten sooner or later.

NVDA: Auto-Complete While Commenting On Facebook Using Google Chrome

Richard Wells

Hello: Using NVDA 2019.2.1 and Google Chrome latest, is there a way to
prevent or at least dismiss Facebook trying to fill in mention tags
while typing comments? I was typing the word "Christ" and it
auto-completed Christy McCellon which is one of my Facebook friends who
I was not trying to tag in my post. It is expanding the tag/mentions
thingy on Facebook and I just need to know how to collapse it and make
it stop trying to do that.

compromised that much more unlikely. In fact, I trust 1password
with its layers of security over just about any other cloud
provider which I might choose to use to store my database and have
it synced. And yes, I could choose to just keep it offline, but
that just isn't convenient. :-D

Tyler's right though, everyone should make those considerations
for themselves about what level of risk they are willing to

Chrome should work, as should Firefox, but you want a

Also, I played around with bitwarden, and it seemed to work

Re: Nvda and Total Commander

Hello,

It's a two-panel file manager.

The programme is shareware; you can keep it for 30 days without registering, but it continues to fully function even afterthat - actually forever.

I don't know how much it would cost now. I bought so many years ago...

In order to activate the proramme when you open it, if it isn't registered, you simply have to press one of teh numbers on the keyboard - 1, 2 or 3  which is presented at random with each new launching ofthe programme.

You'll hear:

1 button

2 button

3 button

1 1

for example.

You'll have to type the number that doesn't say button after it, bu is repeated twice instead - in this example, 1 1 = type 1 on the keyboard...

After tat the programme will be fully functional.

It has loads of options, and a considerable number of plugins and extensions, but not many are accessible, so I don't use those.

The Android version is free.

hth, ciao,

Subject: Re: [nvda] Alternatives to Excel

I agree with your comments regarding LibreOffice. OpenOffice Calc may be a
good alternative and if people find that it's doing what they need they
should certainly continue to use it. However, LibreOffice receives many more
updates with bug fixes and feature additions. If there's ever a chance for
accessibility in Calc and Writer to be improved we're likely to see that
happening in LibreOffice before OpenOffice.

Hi,

LibreOffice is now very accessible because it is getting many updates
in short time (improvements, security fixes, etc.).

Re: Nvda and Total Commander

Mallard

Hello Quentin,

There are other issues, especially in the forms to set up ftp connections, but those can't be solved, apparently.

Ciao,

Ollie

Hi Jarek,

I'm not familiar with the program, but if NVDA is working everywhere except for announcing these two buttons, it sounds like the developers of Total Commander has simply forgotten to label them.  The easiest solution is to contact the developer of Total Commander and let them know and request they please label those two buttons.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Re: Nvda and Total Commander

Hello,

I've been in contact with Chritian Ghisler for years. He solved several inaccessibility issues in both Total commander for Windows and for Android, but some of them he was unable to fix.

He's very accessibility-oriented and willing to help.

Let's write to him again, and see what he can come up with.

I've used Total Commander since the days when it was still called Norton Commander (for DOS) and the nWindows Commander (for Windows), and I couldn't live without it...

Ciao,

Ollie
