Sorry, buddy, but if you want those voices, you have to buy them. Like I said, there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Re: NVDA 2019.3 RC 2 is released
Firstly with rate boost, you can have rate boost on and speech rate less than 100%. EG if 100% is too slow for you with rate boost off, turn rate boost on, drop speech rate down to 30%, and increase speech rate from there until fast enough.
With NVDA 2019.3, I wanted to clear up the "I will lose all my addons" comment. It's true that add-ons have needed to be rewritten or updated for 2019.3. The majority, at least of the main official ones, have been updated, some are still being worked on, and others may not be updated. You can find the list of the status of each here: https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/nvdapy3.en.html
We know there are people using an old illegal version of eloquence which was distributed for free. We know some like to debate whether it is "illegal" or not, but either way that one isn't supported in 2019.3. I don't want to discuss the pros and cons of that add-on, but I thought it is worth highlighting that for users coming from that add-on, there are options.
Firstly, if you are using Windows 10, you might try out the "Windows OneCore" voices - it's the default for new installations but also worth trying if you haven't lately - especially since it's built into Windows so doesn't cost any extra.
There are also add-ons which do have a one off fee including a bundle of Eloquence and Vocalizer voices by Code Factory, or Vocalizer by Tiflotecnia, and you've likely seen Rui from Tiflotecnia here in the group. They all have demo or trial versions you can check out before needing to pay for anything: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/wiki/ExtraVoices
For some add-ons (speech and otherwise), you may need to specifically download the version which is compatible with 2019.3 separately, so it's worth having a look at the Addons page https://addons.nvda-project.org/index.en.html for the addons you use to check.
If there is an add-on you use which isn't updated, do write to the developer to encourage them to update their add-on. You can also write here and ask about the functionality you really need - it may be there is another way or another add-on being worked on which may do what you need, or someone willing to update or help.
Regards
Quentin.

Re: NVDA not so laggy on File Explorer
You can make an installed copy from a
portable copy and vise versa. Think you just open NVDA menu and
find Tools and Install on this computer. While running your
portable copy, just open the NVDA menu, then tools, and in there
you will find install nvda. This will do it for you.\

Just to say
that my initial feedback on installing NVDA 19.3
RC2 is that there has been a dramatic
improvement in the lag that plagued previous
installations of NVDA when trying to open large
file directories in Windows file Explorer
(Windows 10 19.09 ). This problem appears to
have pretty much disappeared so far. I used to
have to use the work around of loading Narrator
to review file names in a windows explorer
window until NVDA would catch up and start
talking again.
This was not
a problem with other screenreaders.
It appears
now that is also not a problem with NVDA – I
don’t know if this was an anticipated
improvement but I thought I would report it
anyway.

Re: showing underlines, bold and italic in word with nvda
Hi Marcus,
The answers given have provided the options for most variants of what you might be asking. If any of those are new commands to you, I'd encourage you to consider purchasing the Basic Training for NVDA training module, which is available in electronic text, audio or braille from https://www.nvaccess.org/shop/ It is highly acclaimed, very reasonably priced and extremely comprehensive.
Kind regards Quentin.

Re: NVDA 2019.3 RC 2 is released
According to
https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/nvdapy3.en.html
"Dropbox Compatible: Work in progress Contact: Patrick Zajda patrick@..., Filaos and other contributors"
Which apparently means "add-on is being ported to Python 3, including testing in progress". On the face of it, I'd take that to mean it's being worked on, but you could email Patrick to double check.

Re: wordpress 2fa and captcha
HI Shaun,
I use logic (math) on all my clients' sites quite effectively. If you're looking for a re-captcha option though we can chat.... I'd be happy to add your site to my list and factor it in when purchasing, if necessary, plugins.
Feel free to contact me off list if you'd like.
Thanks and HTH,
Sarah

While this is probably on topic for access it is a semi complex question so you may want to email me off list if its going to get a bit that way.
I assist with adminning a wordpress site and want to secure it.
I have used 2 factor authentication via text message (sms) and email for a while.
And thought that it may be an alternitive to captcha.
Currently though just about everything I found needs to be setup per user and not inforced by admins or anything.
Most plugins will allow 1 user up to 10 users for free but eventually you need to pay.
I don't think its fair for the users to pay to access a site just for the security to login, and that's my issue.
I have solved this with wordpress verification via jetpack which will protect everyone if they have their accounts in wordpress set for 2fa use and that in itself is fine.
There are ways to doodle with the php code to make it work but I don't have that access and it seems like you need to doodle with every theme on the site you use which is not ideal.
Unless there is a plugin that will by default get people to login with wordpress but at the same time I'd like a way that admins like the owner and myself can enter our passwords as backups would be good.
Sadly the only real solution I have is captcha and encouraging people to use 2fa on wordpress.
Of course it would be nice to just clear all the users and make everyone register and login with wordpress only.
We don't need many users here bare the admin users to be honest.
I use my username for backup and when I don't want to doodle with 2step such as doing admin things rather than posting things but I could use either.
I was thinking about captcha again.
Recaptcha has gotten a lot more stable but I know some have still issues with the audio.
My other idea was logic word or math captcha but are those that secure or should I just drop it.
I know there are google authenticators and the like but what I want is the ability for people to just login and either handle a text message or email and probably backup codes if they need.
I don't need anything totally advanced, Its easier to put in captcha to be honest but still thats me for the day.

Hi, Think of NVDA update mechanism as similar to how Chrome and Firefox updates themselves. Each NVDA branch (or a channel) is meant for different groups of users, and as such, they come with varying levels of stability: - Source code level: these are used by people writing new NVDA features or testing bug fixes before being reviewed by NV Access people for inclusion in NVDA.
- Alpha (similar to Chrome/Edge Canary): this is used by developers and testers to make sure new features are working as intended and to catch bugs early. Not all features included in a given alpha build are included in final NVDA release.
- Beta (similar to dev and beta channels for Chrome): used by early adopters and add-on authors to test upcoming features and to make add-ons compatible.
- RC (release candidate): used to test NVDA in real-world situations in hopes of catching last-minute issues.
- Stable: self-explanatory.
To mark a given branch as “under development”, all channels except RC and stable builds will emit a tone if an error requiring attention from users and developers occur. Also, moving from one branch to the next (particularly if moving from stable version to alpha/beta) comes with risks, including incompatible add-ons and bugs due to feature maturity. Cheers, Joseph

I think both approaches—yours and Gene’s—would be useful, for not everybody using NVDA—old or new—is on this list. Cordelia
