Wow! You’ve been using NVDA since grade one!  Keep up your skills! Kid, you’ll be going places when you finish school!  Meaning you’d be a good developer when you finish school!  Keep doing what you are doing!

Hello, NVDA users and developers!

My name is Carlos Esteban Martinez Macias. I am a blind person, i am

from Ecuador and i am 14 years old.

I use NVDA from the year 2012. In my opinion, is a very good screen reader.

Also, i am a contributor in the spanish comunity of NVDA. I writ various

articles in the web site of the spanish comunity (www.nvda.es), for

example, a tutorial about how change the sounds of NVDA for start, exit,

focus mode or brouse mode. Other tutorial is about how read subtitles

with the program Pot Player and NVDA with an option of accessibility of

this player.

In a future, i go to translate my tutorials to english.

The transition of NVDA from Python 2.7 to Python 3 is, for me, a good

change, and necessary.

Regards!

Well I’ll be! Windows ten has its own voices for NVDA?  I actually like them.  They’re not all that bad if you don’t mind me saying so!

We don't know which voice it was.  Have you been using Eloquence?  If you want to use it, you can use a demo that runs for seven days.  You can then purchase it or not, as you wish.  There are a lot of free voices.  It appears you are not using Windows 10.  Windows 10 uses its own voices with NVDA by default that many people like.  If you are using E-Speak, the default voice not in Windows 10, you may well want to try other voices.  There are lots of free voices but, in the area of synthesized speech, if you pay nothing, you get poor quality.  it takes a very specialized team of experts to create good voices.

You may find and try whatever free voices you wish or demo voices here:

Download the voice, it usually is an add-on.

Use the command NVDA key n, by default, either insert is the NVDA key.  A menu will open.

Down arrow to tools and press enter.

Down arrow to Manage Add-ons and press enter.

A dialog opens.

Tab to the install button and press the space bar.

An open dialog will open.

Find the add-on, as you find a file you wich to open in a standard open dialog.  If you need more information, ask.

When you find the add-on, press enter and you will be asked if you wish to install it.  answer yes.

After it installs, you will be asked if you want to restart NVDA.  Use the appropriate button, I don't recall what it says.

NVDA will restart.

Switch to the synthesizer by issuing the command control insert s.  Find what you want in the list and press enter.  If you don't find it, ask here.

Press escape if you want to close the dialog without doing anything.  I'll tell you how to adjust the speed of the voice and make other changes in a later message, after you get the voice installed.

Also, before you do any of this, I would recommend changing the following setting to keep you from accidentally saving settings you don't want to save when you are just trying them out.  Set NVDA not to automatically save settings on exit.  That way, you can return to the old settings unless you want to save the new ones.  To do this, with NVDA running, use the command control insert g.  You may use either insert.

Tab, perhaps just once, to a check box that says save settings on exit.  It is checked.  Uncheck it with the space bar, then press enter  The dialog will close.

Now, if you change settings and you want to save them, use the command control insert c.  If you don't use this command, when you close NVDA and start it again, all the old settings will be used.

Use the command after you press enter.  In other words, uncheck the check box with the space bar, press enter, issue the command control insert c.  You will hear "Configuration saved," spoken.  You have just saved the setting you made.

Um there should be a log generated.

look at nvda old .log and send us all lines below nvda initialised.

If there is a traceback which there undoubtedly is it should show up here if it was at all logged.

Good morning,

Two announcements from me this morning:

And one of the main things covered in it is the impending 2019.3 release, and in particular, the hot-off-the-press 2019.3 rc3 release which came out overnight: https://www.nvaccess.org/post/nvda-2019-3rc3-now-available-for-testing/

The main change in the latest RC is a fix to some of the translation strings.  If you are using NVDA in a language other than English, please try this RC and make sure everything is translated correctly.

And of course keep an eye out for any other issues with the RC and let us know!

Kind regards

By default, the only NVDA keys are either insert.  Unless you set NVDA to use other keys, none are available.

Hi Connie,
from what you are describing, it seems you accidentally changed NVDA's
voice in such a way that it is now hard to understand. The easiest way
out of this situation is to reset NVDA to factory defaults.
To do this, please press and hold your ctrl and NVDA keys, then press
the letter r three times quickly.
In case you are wondering what your NVDA key is, it can be any of the following:
- Caps lock
- The insert key; the top left one in the three by two keys grid above
the arrow keys
- The numpad insert key; the large horizontal one on the bottom left
of the number pad
Hope this helps.

Re: Contact

Oriana

Because there's nothing in the url indicating a region-specific issue, I'm thinking this has to do with your personal Google settings (top left of Google homepage). First of all, make sure you're not signed in to someone else's account (top right of Google homepage).

Once you're logged in as yourself, or logged out entirely, here's a link directly to the settings page: https://www.google.com/preferences

In this settings menu the 8th and 9th headings could be causing your issue: "language in Google products" and "Language of search results".

The 8th heading "Language in Google Products" contains a single-selection drop down menu that should list each language's name in the script of it's own language, so make sure you can display utf-8 characters.

The 9th heading "language of search results" contains a list of selected languages followed by a drop down menu, it might be listing the troublesome language with an "x" to the right. Add any languages you would like to search in by using the single-selection drop down menu below the list of languages, and remove any languages you don't understand by clicking the "x" to the right of the language, click save.

If nothing's changed after saving the language change, clear your Google cookies (or all cookies) and your browser cache.

Most of the headings have info buttons to the right of the heading that takes you to the help page for that heading, but feel free to contact me if it's not helpful, or if i didn't solve your problem.

Hello:

I brought up the issue below last June but aside from some related discussion never got anywhere about using this software on Windows with NVDA. I really need some assistance with this issue to make a full transition to NVDA.

Software is alpine for Windows and Pico, also for Windows. It is not exactly that the software doesn't work at all, but it only partly works. For example, in editing a message, I can usually get speech in the text, but there is no braille. Sometimes while editing, when I move down line by line I get no text, but I do get text moving up line by line after moving down. In the menu of messages, I can't see the messages at all.

Thanks.

Hi:

I use two fairly old pieces of software: the Alpine email client; the Pico text
editor. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to get this software to work
with NVDA. It only shows a blank screen for me.

Pico is particularly portable and I'm betting that the two programs have the
same screen issues since they were written by the same source. I haven't
attached it here but sending it via email should be very simple.

Is there a way I can try to diagnose this? Or, might somebody be willing to
look at this who knows more about thwat they are doing?

Many thanks.

Chris

Hi

It seems in the Rc release under general settings then Automatically start NVDA after I log on to Windows check box has become unchecked it will need to be checked again.

So maybe there is something in the RC release that un checks it?

I thought they had fixed that bug it did not show in the betas. I got caught out with it 2 thought the computer was not booting up correctly.

If you have windows10, the oneCore voices work excellent and support many languages. ESpeak also sounds good if you set its voice correctly or the way you like it. And that $70 from www.atguys.com gives you both eloquence with all its voices and vocalizer with all of its voices. So $70 is a really really good deal as far as buying voices is concerned.
