Re: A solution for read subtitles with NVDA, the program Pot Player

JM Casey

Yes, I've been meaning to give this a try.
I would like to read the subtitles on a braille display rather than listen to them.
Have you had success with this?

Hello!
Is hard read subtitles in real time with NVDA because the subtitles are text on an image, and the OCR not can refresh automatically.
But the program Pot Player have a solution. Pot Player is a player for Windows of audio and video. This player support many formats, and also can an very good option for the screen readers: In the preferences, category accessibility, the program have an option that display the subtitles how Window Titles.
The web site of the program is:
https://daumpotplayer.com/

Note: By default, the contextual menu not is accessible, but this problem have a solution. Open the preferences dialog with f5, and in the category themes, with tab search the combo box contextual menu and select system default.
When the option in the category accessibility for the subtitles is enabled, NVDA can read subtitles from a separate file (for example *.rts or *.txt) with the option open a subtitle of this player.
Regards.

It looks like I have version 1.01, the version which you get when you click the download link. Where can I find version 1.1? Should I plan on the dictation bridge add-on phasing out in the next year?

Re: how to disable announcing of battery charging/not charging

Tyler Spivey

Pop into the python console and paste this in, pressing enter after:

import winKernel;winKernel.GetSystemPowerStatus = lambda x: None

The worst that will happen is that NVDA will break, requiring a restart. No big deal.

Re: how to disable announcing of battery charging/not charging

Not that I know of but if your laptop keeps doing this all the time you probably have more issues than just nvda.

My first suspician is a faulty battery or power pack.

Some laptop support programs have a checker for this stuff and it should work.

In the case of hp anyway.

I'd go and take your unit back to the place you got it and ask them to check the battery and powerpack, it may be as little as a powerpack or at most cable which may or may not cost to much.

A battery may cost a bit more and if its an internal a bit more if out of warrenty.

If its not that, it could be a short in your power box, an electronically protected box a good power hub can cost 30 dollars but still thats not bad.

You could have issues with your power or you could have issues with the laptop itself.

I'd firstly try to get the latest bios if you don't have that and drivers.

There is a possibility it could just be windows or software but I'd take the system back to the shop and let them look at it, just make sure you back everything up first.

Its unlikely it is actually windows, and is most likely hardware or an actual issue.

Of course it could be an issue, if you have something else which you can have plugged in when that happens and see if it goes off well you will know.

If not try unplugging something if its using to much in the board.

On the other hand if its just ahppening all the time then you may actually have an issue.

Re: Donation Too nerve wracking

The way the form works when you use the one on the download page is that you select the radio button that says other.  You will find an edit field if you down arrow below that button.  If you are doing so, Don't tab through unfamiliar forms.  Down arrow.

You can't change the amount on the Pay Pal page.

if any where it is more on the second page I was looking at doing a lets say one off donation and on the second one in the edit area it would not let me change it from 200 to what ever I wanted to donate. Most people would stop there.

It seemed to do it from the nvaccess website for donations and from nvda for donations. I was using google chrome so will try another browser to see if there are the same results.

Please explain how the form is badly designed. It can't be simpler.

You need to select what type of donation you want. Either you have a set of radio buttons on the Download page, or a set of buttons on the donate page.

I’m not certain as to who is saying the phrase, “kiss of death” but I agree.

It took me well over a year to finally finally set up a small monthly donation to NVDA.  I wonder how many dollars are not getting where they need to go because of a combination of persons with less PC skills and apparently, a web designer or, at least the form designer also having less skills.

We need NVDA to grow world wide so more persons will have free access to NVDA.

I use Jaws and Narrator too but, NVDA needs to prosper.  I hope some one will fix this unnecessary complicated process.
