what about the sound manager addon?

Simone Dal Maso

Hello,
I used the soundmanager addon for modifying volume of various application in Windows.
Since NVDA 2019.3 obviously it doesn't work anymore.
I downloaded from the github repository the addon for NVDA 2019.3, I changed the manifest.ini because it was outdated and now the addon is correctly installed.
But the nvda-shift-v shortcut don't work and I can't see any options in the main NVDA settings window.
Do you have an updated version of this amazing tool?

Re: NVDA and Firefox

This sounds to me like the longstanding problem that some programs, when you uninstall them, unregister some.dll files.  NVDA has a utility to correct the problem.  Open the menu with NVDA key n.  Find and open the tools submenu.  Find and run the com registry fixing tool.  That may not be the exact name but its close enough that you will know it.  The tool reregisters the .dll files, if they have become unregistered.

This also happened to me and I dealt with it by  installing  Waterfox at that time as a slimmed down version of FireFox with at the time better accessibility.

I have now pretty much moved to using Brave full time now so I am not quite sure of the full status of Waterfox. I relaunched it just now and it appears to be still OK.

Hi Everyone

I use Windows 7, NVDA 2019.3.1 and Firefox 68.5.0ESR. It works fine on
one machine.

I have just installed NVDA on another Windows 7 machine and, when I load
Firefox, it says the title of the page and then keeps saying "Unknown".
This machine had a previous version of Firefox which was updated today

I created a portable version of NVDA using the first machine and

Can anyone advise me how to make it work on the second machine?

Hi all, after starting up the NVDA, I got the message. 2 add-on updates are available.

SentenceNav 2.7 2.5

TextNav 1.4 1.2

Update add-ons Close. Why the updater is giving the old version of these addons?

Hello guys, while we are talking about this subject, I have not yet updated to 2019.3.1 just yet. But the current version I am using, when I hit F11, it says controlling remote machine, then i press F11 again, it says controling local machine. when I hear remote and local, my hering is not the best so I sometimes have to press F11 repeadly to understand it. Is there a way to change that when it say something else, like the older method when it say Remote  or Local only?

Modern literature would refer to a good deal of writing in the Twentieth century.

In the context of computer programs, which is a different context with different usage, modern NVDA implies that older versions are far behind the times and inferior.  Not necessarily, depending on how the user uses the version or versions .

I still use a quite old version of NVDA because I don't need a newer one with the programs and Windows versions I use and it does certain things more smoothly, such as how it works with my e-mail program.  I don't consider it not to be modern.  It is an old version, which has very different connotations.

Hi,
That's an interesting point. I think part of the reason for labeling it that way is due to Python 2 versus Python 3 - the former is ancient now, and the latter is modern.

I'm not thrilled that this add-on is said to work with "modern" NVDA, as some folks think 2019.2.1 is pretty modern already. Why can't that page just say 2019.3 and above, and be done with it?

It wanted for several minutes to keep checking 1809 and

all the updates would keep increasing the build number after 1809
which would stay the same.

As I send this message, It's on the third progress bar

This brings me to a nvda question.

Hello,

oh good job on gathering this list. However, I see also some ilegal addons in there (i.e. eloquence and cracked Akapella or Vocalizer voices). If you want them to work, you have to download them from official sources like CodeFactory or Tiflotecnia. Due to NVDA being free of charge, I guess it is reasonable and also respectful to at least spend some cash on useful things such as a synthesizer which in fach isnot very expensive.

Other addons like Sentencenav, Browsernav, Bluetooth audio, TextNav etc are already uptodate but the author did not request to update them officially. You can contact him directly or you can download the addons here:

https://github.com/mltony?tab=repositories

Regarding Access solutions addon and the NVDA store addon, as Yannick already says, the addon is discontinued as well as other addons like i.e. console timer (not needed anymore), screen curtain (not needed anymore) or Vital Book Shelf (not needed anymore).

For addons from access solutions, please feel free to contact them if you want the addons to work further. This is valid for all the other addons that do not work.

By the way, audio themes 3d is working, the addon can be found on the official addons website under the development section.

Who knows - not me.

But, on that note, just added a voice-specific dictionary entry for an MS voice to pronounce e-acute as just that = E acute, and, it seemed to work when I then typed the character, while working with MS George?

You can get Eloquence for NVDA, which works with 2019.3:  https://codefactoryglobal.com/app-store/voices-for-nvda/

I must admit, I don't know how it handles accented characters etc, but you can try the demo and check.

The fact that it works with eSpeak NG and not OneCore, indicates it is an issue with the OneCore voices rather than NVDA itself.  I'd suggest raising that with the Microsoft Disability Answer Desk: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/disability-answer-desk

I just tried it with Microsoft SAPI 5 voices, and they read é as "e with acute".

If it is a specific set of characters, the other thing you can do is open NVDA's "punctuation / Symbol pronunciation" settings (NVDA+N, then P for preferences, then choose "punctuation / Symbol pronunciation", add an entry for each character, and what you would like to have said for it.

Re ClipSpeak, the reason we haven't added it in to core, is primarily that there is no definitive way to know that something has been cut, copied, pasted, etc.  The way the add-on works is by checking what else is going on, what is selected or on the clipboard now etc, and making an educated guess.  It does a fairly good job, but it is still a guess, and we'd rather not present something we are not sure about.  I'm also not sure if there are any performance impacts from the add-on.  I didn't notice any last time I used it, but I have a fairly fast machine and didn't rigorously test it.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hi List

I have another problem since I upgraded to NVDA 2019.3.

In Afrikaans we regularly make use of the ASCII codes for ‘accents’, ‘pounds’, ‘euros’ and much more.

To access the ASCII codes, we use the ALT-key plus the numeric keypad. I did everything, as I usually did, turned on the numeric-keypad, held down ALT and typed the number sequence.

Nothing happened. I tried it several times, with no success. Previously NVDA read the coded letter.

I also, previously wrote regarding the addon announcing copy and paste. I tried to update the addon, with no success. Can someone please hel?

Problem with NVDA while reading documents

Vaibhav Bhandari

Hi all,
I am using the latest version of NVDA. Today, I was reading and doing
work in some documents but when suddenly I switched my documents by
pressing shift+tab, my nvda crashed. It was not reading the document
and no matter what I pressed it did not stop speaking. After
restarting it, the problem occurred again. This time I restarted NVDA
in debug mode and got the following message during that problem:
DEBUG - IAccessibleHandler.accessibleObjectFromEvent (13:02:41.398) -
MainThread (4820):
oleacc.AccessibleObjectFromEvent with window 1311748, objectID 109 and
childID 0: [WinError -2147467259] Unspecified error
This problem is continuously happening though fortunately not so
frequently. Can someone help me with this?

Re: NVDA2019.3.1 with new Driver Vocalizer menu doesn't show

Let’s try installing the voices first from the right place. Maybe I’m not getting them from where they should? Let me know, then the right page since I deleted their installers, thinking I wouldn’t need them anymore. I used to have the English and Spanish Compac voices packages. I’ve Googled, but I get to the version2 page, instead of the version3 ones. Thanks for info.

I installed the driver Rui shared with the list, to fix the autolanguage switching problem reported, hoping that it’d show the Vocalizer Menu option within NVDA 2019.3.1, but no go! It’s installed OK I think; when I startNVDA, it says that It needs at least one voice to get the AddON to work. I installed the Portuguese and Spanish, as well as the English packages, but still no Vocalizer menu shows, nor does it show the Vocalizer engine when going through the synths with NVDA+Control+s. Any hints what’s going on?

Re: questions for Newest nvda update.

Quentin.

I accept that ESpeak NG might say the correct letter, but, call me full of nonsense, I haven’t found one of the ESpek NG voices that satisfy me.

I used to use Eloquence.

I suppose, if I don’t want to use the ESpeak voices, I just have to bare with what I have.

It would be nice if the NVDA developers could try to solve this problem in a next upgrade.

Regarding “copy and paste:, wouldn’t it be possible to make that add-on a built-in feature of NVDA?

Christo, am going to ask a silly question here, since just tested out exactly that, and, it worked fine.

What voice engine are you using?  Ask that, since, the MS one core voices will just read out, for example, the letter E with an accent on it as E, but, using eSpeak-NG, it tells me the difference between e and é (that second one is e-acute, typed right now using alt + numpad-130).

Hello!

Glad to hear the automatic language switching is working alright again, since is one of the best features of ou Vocalizer!

The number of activations is not an error... I have made the reset to have consideration to the number of times you have make a reset on the activation...

Now, let's solve the problem of verifying the license!

Hello Rui

I have tried the latest driver that you given, the switching language and no speech has been fixed Vocalizer is working now. But I have found a bug that I cannot do anything with my license from the menu again. I can't delete, can't check activation count and can't change my credential. I think the add-on can't talk to the server.
Note: I think it has some mistake about my activation. I'm using 1 activation on my laptop but when I checked the activation count before upgrade it said that I have 3 activations left. So I have 4 activation now include in my laptop. I would like to tell you to fixed that.
