The Eloquence add -on is not legal and it is not
allowed to discuss it on the list. It is for the protection of the
list. If the wrong person sees discussions of illegal software, the list
may be shut down.

VLC? was: [nvda] Youtube - how to navigate
Robert Logue
I never used VLC. I did not know it was possible to play Youtube videos in other players. Did VLC stream or download the files? Could you save the whole file locally? I wondered if it could be used to download and save Youtube videos for offline viewing.
I know there are Youtube dowloaders but they have drawbacks. Would be wonderful to speed up playback of some Youtube tracks.

Current status of Tiflotecnia voices?
Mobeen Iqbal
Hello Everyone.
I was wondering what the current status of voices from Tiflotecnia is? I am assisting a client who has previously purchased voices and the add-on on their website isn't compatible with 2019.3.1. I thought they had released an update but obviously not. Does anyone have any ideas how we can get things working again? Cheers, Mo.

Re: speech syns
Kelly Sapergia
Hi,
I personally prefer the Acapela voices. I use Sharon primarily. The one thing I wish is that the special codes to make a voice laugh, cry, etc., would work by default. There are some instructions on the Acapela Voices for NVDA website's blog, but so far they don't work for me. Also, at least with version 2019.3.1 of NVDA, I'm noticing some extra long pauses in spots, such as before announcing if a checkbox is checked. This didn't occur with earlier versions of the driver. Thanks. love to use them because they solve many decision problems regarding text and how it is processed. For every problem solved using a RE, hoever, there is a potential side effect created that is just waiting to kick you in the knee. Output text is best described as a stream of consciousness. We humans have the most sophisticated computing system on Earth sitting right atop our necks and our speech output is usually controlled by the context of what we are doing and talking about at the moment. It's also influenced by our age, education and where we came from. A speech program for a computer doesn't even come close to having any concept of that type of context and it gets to be a knotty problem even for humans placed in an unfamiliar situation in which street slang and vernacular are different on different blocks of the same street. We instantly know whether we should say the long E sound when seeing R E A D or whether we should say a word that sounds just like the color red if we just read a book. A speech synthesizer that can get that little issue right every time doesn't exist and that extraordinary computer that sits on most of our spines can even be confused by unusual syntax so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for someone to come up with a software solution anytime soon, at least, not today. I will say to those working on these projects, Keep up the good work. Probably the best idea in the mean time could be some form of easily accessible switch that can be changed on the fly to enable and disable the triggers that are causing misbehavior. In the world of software, one situation's annoying behavior is another's pure genius. Martin McCormick "Quentin Christensen" <quentin@nvaccess.org> writes:

I believe if after starting your computer, if you redo the "Use
currently saved settings on the logon and other secure screens
(requires administrator" in NVDA Preferences/General, that problem
will go away.

Are you using OE classic yourself and if yes, with what screenreader? I have installed the OE calssic 3.0 version and have set up an account. With jaws I can mark a highlight color and then you can navigate through the list, but not really great and hotkeys of OE are also not working. Are you using it and with what screenreader? For how long do I have to continue getting the vocalizer error messages?
Ibrahim Abedrabbo
Hi folks, I am currently running NVDA 2019.3.1 with the vocalizer add on posted by Rui. After some difficulties in deleting the vocalizer activation and reactivating again, Both seem to be running fine. I basically could not delete the old activation via the vocalizer menu, and had to delete the vocalizer activation manually. However, I continuously get this irritating vocalizer error message every time I start my computer: Your license can not be verified. Please check the following: 1. Your credentials (email and password) are correct (you can change them under the vocalizer expressive menu) 2. You are not using someone else's activation or you are not using the same activation in different computers at the same time. This is not legal, and is against license terms. 3. You are having internet problems. For further clarification, please contact tiflotecnia, Lda, or your local dealer.
OK

Ibrahim

Re: how to enable hidden files in Windows 10
Keith Eldridge
Hi Brian,
It has same effect as going into folder options and view tab. If you set it using shortcut keys and then go into the options the other way you will find it set in there and if you set or unset in folder option you would find the ribbon option checked or unckecked accordingly.
