Re: Questions about Skype with NVDA
Cordelia Scharpf
Not that well. As far as I remember, Skype 8 came into effect in 2018, and I found navigating with NVDA (without an add-on) somewhat tedious. The NVDA add-on (for Skype 8) got updated and is compatible with NVDA 2019.3 and higher earlier this year, and it works great.

Hello.
The better version of Skype accessible with NVDA is the version 8, the version for desktop. Is a web application. Regards.

Re: installing the Alan voice
Roger Stewart
It looks like you don't need the language package if you don't install any of the voices. Maybe they are all included in this add on or something. I'm still not clear about this but I'm keeping the English Language package enable as everything is working fine here. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Re: backup speech dictionaries
Gene
No one has mentioned doing a Windows search.
This is important to know both that it exists and how to use it. It is
also something a lot of people would use instead of other methods. If you
search for speechDicts using Windows search you will find the folder. You
don't have to open it unless you want to. You can copy it to the clipboard
in the search results.
I'm not talking about using the start menu
search. I'm talking about Windows search, control f to get to the edit
field when in the list of files and folders.
Its probably the same or just about the same from
Windows 7 through Windows 10. Type speechDicts and then tab to the list of
results, which will grow longer if more results are found over
time.
Close the search with alt f4 when finished.
Don't press enter after typing the search.
Just tab to the list. The search begins automatically when you type what
you are searching for.

Hi, Robert,
I read the article you shared and it's quite informative. I think I like the older version of edge better.

Is there a way to add something to the speech dictionary which also would include raising the pitch of the replacement entry?

Are you referring to the consumer version of Skype, or to Skype for Business (which is being replaced by Microsoft Teams)? They’re totally different, notwithstanding the name.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hmmmm. Interesting. The person who first posted about the RH voice on this list said you need the nvda add on, the English Language Package add on, and then any voice you want. I can try removing the English Language package and see if it still works. If it does, then I wonder why it is offered as an nvda add on and why this person said we need it to make it work.

Good Afternoon Joseph: Is it possible that someone needs to look over an add on as far as documentation before it goes on the list? If the person doesn't write in good enough English, to be understood, this person could help out. Dave

This issue happens in JAWS and Chrome. The temporary fix is to refresh your screen when necessary. In JAWS this is control + escape. In NVDA, it is NVDA key + f5.

I am using NVDA 2019.3.1 with Windows 10 and have noticed that when I use Firefox, NVDA gets stuck in certain frames of a Web page. These are usually either ads or widgets for sharing to Facebook or Twitter. I know that there are other Web browsers, and I use them when I need to, but I do prefer Firefox and have used it for years. The only way I can find to temporarily fix the problem is to restart NVDA, but it only works until it finds another frame. Just wanted to report it in case the developers might have an idea of what's wrong. Maria

Re: Web pages not being refreshed
I don't think an add-on is needed. Something is misfiring in either Chrome or NVDA. It should also be noted that the same occurs in Microsoft Edge, the most recent version. I no longer use the development version. Therefore, I cannot speak to what is going on with that version.

A ticket has been created and you can comment or add a log etc. Below is from the email and link to the ticket. This was from one of the developers on the list. Sorry folks, I haven't been ignoring those who have reported this to me directly. We've had a few reports of this, and I can recreate it myself. I hadn't yet created an issue, I was trying to investigate exactly what was going on with it. In the meantime, someone else has created https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/10801 which seems as good a place as any to record any more info on this issue (feel free to comment on that issue if you can add any technical info, a log, etc).
