Re: When nvda keeps turning itself on any time another program opens or shuts

In case my previous answer wasn't clear, I'll add that in a previous
post, the person presenting the problem stated that the only way he/she found to stop the behavior was to turn off run at boot up. Therefore, I proposed the work around I did. Gene

It isn't intended to be a solution. its a work around, allowing the

sighted person to use the computers without NVDA starting whenever another program is started. It would also allow the blind person to log in and then manually run NVDA. I am skeptical that a solution will be found and I think this is a good work around. Gene

NVDA and office
Chris Shook
Hi,
Has anyone had an issue with NVDA where it will not read a misspelled word or the sentence containing a misspelled word in spell check? I'm running Office 2016 and I'm having that issue. Please help. Thanks in advance Chris

I suggest installing JAWS and having it run at startup and not having

NVDA do so. A very good example of where having more than one screen-reader is very useful. Or, if Narrator can run on the login screen, that would be something else you could use. Gene

Re: When nvda keeps turning itself on any time another program opens or shuts
When you know there are thousands, nay, millions who are not having this issue it clearly points to something idiosyncratic to your computers, and likely caused secondary to something you've done. That's not a criticism nor an accusation, but a fact.
I doubt it's due to Windows 10, per se, but it could be secondary to some slight corruption in your installations. See my tutorial, Britechguy’s Standard Advice Regarding Windows 10 Issues and Their Repair, and shoot straight to the numbered step, one, and try the SFC/DISM pair on one of your machines and see if that fixes the issue. Then if it doesn't, try the repair install. For myself, I would uninstall NVDA first before doing this if you have sighted assistance that makes this possible. Then reinstall it after either the SFC/DISM pair reports all is well or you've done a repair install. And if you haven't tried an NVDA uninstall, system Restart, and NVDA reinstall I would do that prior to doing any of the things I've recommended above, but I am presuming you have done this already. What you have occurring is uncharacteristic and I have not seen anyone report it prior to yourself. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

Re: When nvda keeps turning itself on any time another program opens or shuts
I disabled use nvda on and it didn't work the only thing that worked was to disable start nvda with windows but then it won't start up automatically when the computer does as I need it to. So either no start at all without me having to do it or it starts all the time when any other program does like it's start up when I don't want it to and again this never happened before windows 10 and now it's 3 computers.

You guys rock! Being able to try Jaws for a few months, one realy values all that NVDA and you guys who develop AddOns do to better daily our efficiency! I just couldn’t resist! Keep up the great work! And definitely looking forward to trying out the AddOn, and spreading the word among the Spanish-speaking NVDA community on Whatsap, for which I’m the creator of the NVDA para Todos Whatsapp group. Thanks for sharing!

Possible bug found in the Dropbox add on
Roger Stewart
I think there may be something wrong with the latest version of the Dropbox add on. I just uploaded a file and while I was checking it, it kept saying the time left was 2 plus days! It actually just took a bit over 2 minutes to upload. I checked it several times and it kept giving me this very weird and incorrect time. After it finished it then did say up to date as it should. Is there something wrong with the way it reads the remaining time?

What would be the equivalent in NVDA, for Jaws's Insert+ShiftDown arrow, in which it tells you what text is being selected? Thanks for info.Gera

Daniel,
I have also used the "Contact Us" form on Jonathan's website to make him aware of this post as well. When this sort of issue occurs, even once, additional provisos regarding the necessary cautions to be taken should be added. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

Hi Brian, Thanks for sharing this post. For the record, the link that I gave is one that I bookmarked after finding it on Jonathan Mosen’s blog, the relevant post of which can be found here. https://mosen.org/soundsfrustrating/

I honestly can't say whether this is the original developer or not, and the program is correctly spelled as Silenzio. But even if I search on that, coupled with Bluetooth, I really get nothing useful other than this cautionary post in the JAWS for Windows Group, dating from January 2020: https://jfw.groups.io/g/main/topic/jaws_2020_speech_issue_with/69701835?p=,,,20,0,0,0::recentpostdate%2Fsticky,,,20,2,0,69701835 So, at this juncture, I would strongly advise anyone who wants to give Silenzio a whirl to manually create a restore point in System Protection as well as taking a full system image backup of their machine prior to installing it. That way if a System Restore from the restore point fails (which happens more often than many would like to believe) you have a way to restore your system to its pre-Silenzio state. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

Hi, Here’s a link to the direct download from the developer’s site. http://www.stefankiss.sk/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=112 I’m not sure if there’s an actual page on his site, however this is the only link that I have. Hth,
