The current version of 32-bit Thunderbird (which is what the vast majority of users will have, even on 64-bit hardware) is 68.6.0 as of this date and time. If you have a version number any higher than that you're on one of the non-stable-release channels. Everything I can find indicates that if you want to change from any of the non-release channels to the release channel the easiest way to do so is to download the regular Thunderbird installer (which would be for release channel) and do an install-over install, which should remove the non-release version and replace it. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

NVDA has Acquired a new, and somewhat annoying Feature
Brian Moore
Hi. This is not nvda at all. When I test on production release which I have on another machine, it is fine. It is reading lots of extra text about imap syncing which happens a lot.
Also, if you don't turn off the status bar, it will tell you when you move a message to trash, and a bunch of other info which really adds up quickly. It is certainly a thunderbird change. Also, some features of the mozilla apps enhancement no longer work such as the ability to sort columns in folders. Brian.

Re: NVDA has Acquired a new, and somewhat annoying Feature

This is specific to the 75 version betas of thunderbird. Turning off the status line helps some but not entirely. they still haven't fixed the ability to sort columns and the addon will no longer let you do it in these versions.
If there was an easy way to go back to the production release I would do it but my mail database won't port back. Brian.

Re: NVDA has Acquired a new, and somewhat annoying Feature
Hi Betsy and all, I see. If I understand you correctly, NVDA somehow does not read next messages automatically when you delete the current message in Thunderbird, and you say this problem began when you updated add-ons and/or Thunderbird. To really figure out if it is Thunderbird, can you try reverting (going back) to latest public version of Thunderbird? If that resolves the problem, I think a love call to Mozilla would be in order (i.e. reporting the problem in hopes of Mozilla understanding and resolving it). Also, given that some folks did report a similar problem, I hope others can chime in with their findings with the steps I wrote earlier. Cheers, Joseph

I assume I have the latest version of thunderbird. It seemed to start acting up about the same time I updated Thunderbird and also did some add-on updates with NVDA but I do not recall what they are.
It took me over half an hour even to get in the program tonight when I had shut it down--Thunderbird.
I wish I could figure out how to describe what is going one. One thing is when you delete an email it starts saying different letters like it is trying to tell you what is going on. I also can no longer go from one email to the next and have it read smoothly like I used to be able to do by just pushing the delete on the numpad and it going right to the next email. I now have to push insert and then down arrow--not numpad keys for it to stop saying all of those different letters. It is really hard to describe. It was running so smoothly.
I wonder if it is because I am running a beta version as I was willing to be a tester for them? I did not think of that earlier.

Re: expanding links that won't expand
As a semi-useless aside, but it may prove instructive if we have HTML experts reading, the only way I knew that "Your Account" was classed as a button was by opening the page source for the simmarket.com page, searching for "Your Account" in the source, and finding this line:
<li class="header_user_menu_item toggle-click" id="header-user-menu-container_account"><button type="button" class="btn-header" onClick="toggle_account_menu(this);">Your Account</button><div id="account-menu" class="header-menu-container"> There's lots more that follows that for the display of all of the bits unveiled when that control is activated. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

Re: NVDA with updated Windows Essentials
Hi,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Hmmm... Let's try this: 1. Press NvDA+Q. 2. When Exit NVDA dialog appears, press R until you arrive at "restart with add-ons disabled". 3. Press Enter. This will restart NVDA with add-ons (including Windows 10 App Essentials) turned off, possibly using Windows OneCore speech synthesizer. 4. Use Thunderbird as usual. 5. See if NVDA becomes sluggish or announces odd things. 6. Restart NVDA (press NVDA+Q, select "restart", and press Enter). This will restore add-ons. 7. Use Thunderbird as usual and see if NVDA becomes slow to respond or says odd things. In effect, what the above steps will do is let you compare how NVDA is doing with and without add-ons. If you don't have any add-ons installed (which you can check by opening NVDA menu (NVDA+N)(, Tools, Manage add-ons and looking at how many items are in the resulting add-ons list; if it is 0, there is no add-on), the above steps won't matter, as clearly it is with Thunderbird, something Mozilla must be notified (way beyond NVDA unless somehow it involves certain parts of NVDA). Cheers, Joseph

Re: expanding links that won't expand
Sarah,
First and foremost, thank you for posting a URL for myself and all other assistants. I presume you mean the "Your Account" control which, by the way, is not a link, although the View Cart and Contact Us immediately next to it are both links. In looking at the page source for the Your Account control, it is a button, but what a mutant version of a button. If you are using a mouse like I do, when you hover over this control the entire structure unveils itself for you to either point and click or click into text boxes like those for username and password. Under NVDA 2019.3.1, I find that I can get to it using the quick browsing 'b' command for buttons only when the page has first loaded, and once I land on it hitting enter opens up the whole range of controls it unveils. You can then TAB your way through all of them. Even though there are text boxes, buttons, and links as part of that control, they must be TABBED through. If I try using any of the usual single letter quick browsing commands I am instantly thrown back into the main body of the page itself and out of the "Your Account" control entirely. If I want to go back to that control, or even get to it in the first place, I find it far easier to use the browser search for "Your Account," hitting Escape to close the browser search once it's found, then NVDA has focus on the control and you can hit enter and start tabbing. I am using the latest version of Edge Dev (meaning I literally did the latest update after I'd opened that page, causing Edge Dev to restart). It should work similarly under any Chromium-based browser, and probably Firefox and other non-Chromium-based browsers, too. Give this a whirl and let me know how it works for you. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

Methods for copying text or links from chat messages in Zoom
Scott Salzman
Hi,
The second method is to use the standard Windows commands for selecting all text, and then for copying and pasting that text into Notepad. From there, you have an accessible text copy of the chat message content, from which you can find and select some text, or a link, and copy it into your web browser. Here are the steps:

Hi Gene, Microsoft Teams is completely accessible with NVDA. Have used it on my Windows computer and haven't found any difficulty with it. Sharing some links from Microsoft Support and will be of help to anyone using Microsoft Teams The above link has all the information together at one place including setup and functionality, including the Microsoft Teams app download link. Hope this helps Pramit

expanding links that won't expand
I can't really describe this well, but there are links on some pages where if you click them, a menu pops out. I can get this to work on the mac but not that much in windows under nvda 19.2 and 19.3, actually I've ben having the issue since last year. I think they call these fly out menus. I think this is the job of the web dev to fix but is there a work around i"m missing. Here's an example
Take care and I hope that helps a bit. And by the way contacting these devs is not that easy. I've already tried, they don't really care. Sarah Alawami, owner of TFFP. . I'd assume the 64-bit Thunderbird would be supported, because you can get the 68.6 builds from the download page. True it's not the default option, but it works here. I don't know about the alpha build though. I expect they wouldn't test that much with stable NVDA.

Reports of these issues are very valuable, but you really can't expect that anyone will devote a lot of time to them until the release candidate stage is reached unless it happens to be convenient. Definitely give the feedback to the folks at Mozilla just like you did here. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

Re: Windows10Mail i selection view? To say Selected or Unselected before anything else?
Gerardo Corripio
Using the Windows10 native Mail app, put yourselves into Selection View, and space to select or unselect an Email, right? I’d like for NVDA tell you before anything else (subject and other info) when an Email is selected and unselected, while arrowing up or down through the Emails within the Selection View. That way, I could remind myself which Emails have been selected, and in case I think twice about having selected one, I could unselect it. Make sense?

who would need to Intigrate code, so that while in the Windows10 Mail app, in Selection view, when arrowing up and down through EMails, I’d know if a message is selected or unselected, before speaking anything else like the subject etc? I know that not everyone Would be happy with this option as default, thus maybe a toggle would be useful, it if if it were to be implemented someday? The selected/unselected status at the beginning of the speech stream, for me at least, would make it more efficient to go through mails while in Selection view.
