Re: most accessible audio recording software with nvda
Here is the link. It was originally the second half of a
presentation. The first half dealt with Audacity but it is old now and
there is a considerable amount of new information so I’m not distributing the
Audacithy section much. But the MP3 Direct Cut section is all or almost
all current.

Or you can try installing it in a different folder. Does the

Did you also get the Lame encoder? You need to place the Lame.dll

I downloaded the version for Win 10. It won't install, it says it

Re: most accessible audio recording software with nvda
To be honest virtual recorder suits me ok, but it can sometimes
have issues from time to time.
What I really want to get is aph studio recorder.
I found that quite cool to use.
During school and for a few years, I found a pirated virus loaded
version which I extensively used when I was yunger.
Its always been my eventual aim to buy it but I never managed to
do so and now with the current climate I am unsure if I will be
buying it right now it remains out of my reach but I liked its
shortcut keys and ease of use.

Re: most accessible audio recording software with nvda
Best is a meaningless term in this context. Best for what? Do
you want good effects? Do you want specific abilities or features?
Your question cannot be properly answered.
However, if you want to try a free multitrack recording program that is
quite accessible and that is already used by a lot of blind people, there is a
blind users list, you may want to try Audacity. If you want a program that
has professional effects and perhaps other features I don’t know about, you may
want something else.

While Microsoft Teams does have a few accessibility issues it does work very nicely with NVDA. I have started a discussion group for the purpose of discussing Teams with an emphasis on accessibility. To join, send an email to

Re: expanding links that won't expand
Jonathan, Heaven knows if someone can use the technique you suggest, it's far preferable. I was just going for something that was dirt simple as far as generating the source code which puts the majority of the burden on the person doing the analysis of it after the fact. I love your technique, I just don't know how many will be successful with it, but they should try, for sure. --

Re: expanding links that won't expand
Another way to capture a portion of a web page coding is to use the inspect element. This often shows up in the contextual menu, but not always. Although this presents a panel that is more complex than show source, it does put your cursor
directly on the part of the code that you right clicked on. . Then moving up a line or two and using the application key again you can usually copy the appropriate HTML.

I keep trying to explain, and apparently to little avail, that web coding is an extremely fluid environment. It's still in the process of actively being invented "beyond the basics" that have been around almost since the beginning.
There will be things that will not be accessible for a variety of reasons, some of which can be screen reader related and others that originate in what's being exposed to the screen reader itself. And I expect it will continue to be this way for years, as
the brilliant (and not so brilliant) young things keep coming up with new ideas in regard to how to present things on webpages. It's going to be a game of catch-up on steroids.
But when an issue is found, if the page in question does not require one to be logged in, it makes it so much easier when the page address, as well as identification of the troublesome element, is offered. I thank you again for having been so explicit in
doing both. It made actually helping you possible.
It's also sometimes possible, like this time, to make sense of what's going on if the page source code is provided in those instances where the page is one after a point where you've logged in. Page source code does not contain any of the information you've
entered on a form, for instance, but is the HTML code used to present that page to you, the end user. If that simmarket.com "Your Account" control had been behind a login, you could still use your web browser's Show Source command to have the HTML source
code for the page opened up in a different tab. If that's then copied and pasted into an MS-Word document, and you can identify the control label where you're getting stuck, if that can be found and the object type deciphered there might be a workaround.
By the way, in Chromium-based browsers the Show source keyboard shortcut for the web page you're viewing is CTRL+U, and you cannot have focus in a text box or other control when you issue that command. CTRL+U also works in Firefox. A web search on "show
page source" with the name of the browser you're using, if it's not one already mentioned, should turn up the keyboard shortcut for that given browser.

You can use reaper, audacity is free, but I personally do not like it. Reaper is about $60 but you get multi ck, midi support and it's very accessible with the osara scripts that have ben written for NVDA.

Re: most accessible audio recording software with nvda
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. But I should had wored my
question a little different. I should have asked what is the best
multi-track recorder for nvda.

CDex is not a
recording program. It is a CD ripping
program.
It really isn’t a
good idea for people, and I see it when evber
such a question is asked, to recommend
Goldwave without first knowing what a person
wants to do. Goldwave is not free. It isn’t
expensive unless you don’t have much money and
you are on a tight budget, but it does cost
something like forty or fifty U.S. dollars.
If you just want
to record and edit mp3 files, MP3 Direct Cut
is a much better choice. If you want to
record and work with other formats, other
programs would be used, MP3 Direct Cut only
works with MP3 files but since many people
just want to record and edit MP3 files, the
way the person wants to use the program needs
to be found out before making a
recommendation.

Re: most accessible audio recording software with nvda
I don’t know why it doesn’t have access but it can be used as a portable
program. the installer places shortcuts in various places to let you
conveniently run the program. I don’t remember how it is packaged. I
haven’t installed it for years but if it is offered as a zip program, you can
unzip it wherever you want and use it.
Or you can try installing it in a different folder. Does the
installer allow you to change the installation folder?
Did you also get the Lame encoder? You need to place the Lame.dll
encoder file in the program folder. I’m not sure I gave the exact name of
the file but its very close and Lame is correct.
I can send you a presentation on the basics of how to use the program and
it may contain a little installation infrmation. I did it years ago and I
don’t remember exactly what I put in it.

Gene,
I downloaded MP3 direct cut and tried to install it on my system. I
downloaded the version for Win 10. It won't install, it says it doesn't
have access to the folder where it wants to install it. I will have to
figure out another place to install it where it will still work. Or, I may
try to figure out how to authorize it.
It sounds good so thanks for suggesting it in an earlier

Re: most accessible audio recording software with nvda
Yes, it can record, in a very limited way. You can’t edit, and I
don’t think you can do anything but record. It isn’t a meaningful
recommendation to be used as a recording program. While it technically can
record, I don’t classify it as a recording program because its recording
function is so limited and because it is used primarily as a ripping
program.

Re: most accessible audio recording software with nvda
When you run the .exe file to install it, before doing that, make
sure you run it as administrator. This should fix it.

Re: NVDA has Acquired a new, and somewhat annoying Feature
Brian, if you are really patient with me I would love to work
with you on this. I learn step by step and like to write down the
steps as I go so I can look it up the next time that process is
needed. I went to the link that you sent to me but could not find
the right place to sign up to report the bugs with this beta
version of Thunderbird. I am on the Eastern time zone and am free
for the next hour and a half or otherwise it will have to wait
until tomorrow. My evening is packed here until after 10:30
tonight.
Write me at blindangel61@... and I can give you my phone
number there if you are able to help.
I am also wondering if there is a way to have the speech say less
so maybe the extra information will stop speaking.
I do not want to go back gto the other version of Thunderbird if
I have to reset everything again.
Thanks again.
