How can I have the down load and or install progress reports both say the progress and beep the progress?
Currently, I only can have the progress messages say the progress and would like NVDA to both tell me the down load and or install progress and also beep the progress as well.
Second question concerns the dictionary.
Can one have multiple dictionary folders with different dictionary files in those dictionary ?
For example, in the jaws dictionary main folder I have a default folder with every day words in it.
Then I have a Flight Simulator dictionary with for example the abbreviation for Indiana as in, and the word login as log in in separate folders so when it sees Log In, it doesn't read the word in as Indiana.
Also, is there a way it would be easier if we could do the following, can one some how copy the JAWS dictionaries into NVDA Dictionaries?
In short, for starters, is there a way to open the jaws dictionary file into say notepad or what have you and either throw all of those pronunciation dictionary entrees into NVDA, or even better, some how import the dictionaries folders and files into NVDA so one doesn't have to rewrite all of the dictionary entrees allover once again.
Also, is there a way to back up those folds that would be full of pronuiation files as well like you can the JAWS dictionary files as well?
I also noticed the following while using my Windows Live mail for my mail.
I notice that to read a letter via NVDA, I need to do the following.
1. open the letter.
2. Back tab once and I'll see edit document.
3. do a ctrl home to go to the top of the letter.
4. then read the letter.
Where in Jaws, I only have to abuse either the enter keys and or the spacebar to open the letter and once the letter is opened, it automatically starts reading the letter to me like it should.
I'm noticing several small improvements in NVDA over JAWS, but the juerry is still out yet if I'll completely switch over to NVDA or not just yet.
I mainly wanted to learn NVDA because using the program Microsoft Flighth Simulator version 10 with the add on programs is suppose to work better within NVDA over using JAWS.
I also have given Microsoft several recommendations and suggestions on how to make their current project that's still scheduled to be released on October 13th, 2020.
On how a blind person interacts with one's pc via both JAWS and or NVDA and what I like about FSX and what I'd like to see in the up coming Flight Simulator 2020 project.
I know with my interests if I were sighted, I would have hhad a career in the air and hope to have made the right stuff to qualify for the sadly gutted out retired space shuttle and or a tour of duty onboard the space station.

I’m using the 3-month license for akapela, especially in hopes of using it with QRead, and other instances in which I’d use the Read-All in Emails, Word documents and other tasks, but the problem I’m noticing is that it only reads a few lines at a time! I have to press the arrow keys and make it read-all again, thus what kind of experience would it be using them like this? My Laptop is an 8GB of Ram, thus what else could it be? What setting should I  try modifying either witA NVDA or Akapela? Because the documents I read with other voices like Vocalizer, read just fine with Say-All! Thanks for tips/tricks you guys might have on this issue.

Hi Jackie,

There are several reasons why there is so much lag with your system.
Initially as you're doing, update your Windows and along with that also
update
your system BIOS, as older drivers could be the culprit here.
After that open the command prompt and do a system file scan.
Once command prompt is opened enter the following "sfc /scannow" and hit
enter.
Then wait for the scan to finish.
Also if there was any third party antivirus installed on your computer
previously uninstall it.

Finally make sure that that your system has sufficient memory (RAM).

If the system is low on memory and drivers are not updated that will make
your system sluggish and
you'll not be able to use NVDA efficiently.

I have a computer I was going to give to my daughter. Unfortunately,
it intermittently kept going into bios instead of booting into
windows. Resetting the computer didn't help. I therefore suspected
either the hard drive or the CMOS battery. Husband Karl took it apart

use those anymore), but he did find a cable that seemed to have become
detached, which he reconnected. It was still very slow, but at least
it didn't go into bios anymore. I then did a 2nd pc reset, removing

it is much improved from earlier incarnations. Forget about NVDA--it
simply was not happening. So the first thing I did was disable 1 drive
& Skype from starting up automatically, which tends to occur when
signing into windows via a Microsoft account. That sped things up
*considerably* & NVDA became quite usable at that point.

The bios is 3 versions behind for this machine. Whenever the Windows
10 update finishes (it's a big 1), I'm going to update the bios & pray
I don't brick the machine in doing so. At that point I'll see what
other driver updates are available. I also think I'm gonna run some
hard drive diagnostics to make sure that the hard drive isn't in
trouble, though that's beginning to look less likely now than it did a
day ago. Despite the first reset, I do think the files were corrupted
because of the hardware problems this machine was experiencing, thus
necessitating a 2nd one. The machine is still not as fast as I'd like
to see it, but it's improving.

This was clearly a complex set of issues, but that's actually pretty
typical when fixing these beasties--it's fairly seldom that only 1
thing is wrong w/them, at least from my experience, which is about 30
years worth. I think my point is that if NVDA isn't usable on a given
machine, it's most likely there's something (or things) wrong w/that
machine. Usually, if one thinks about it, the machine is having other
difficulties as well, & these, although annoying, may actually help to
troubleshoot the problem. If you're getting out of memory errors, for
example, then perhaps a ram stick is faulty. If you're getting errors
regarding being unable to access files, then perhaps the hard drive is
the culprit.

Anyway, I hth those who might be having problems w/NVDA on win 10 &
who are looking for resolution of the problem. My particular set of
circumstances will not be applicable, but perhaps my thought processes
might be helpful in spurring yours on toward a successful resolution.

Hi Austin,

You can use NVDA's "Configuration profiles" to accomplish exactly what you
want here. To do this, open Word, then press NVDA+control+p to open
configuration profiles. Press alt+n to create a new profile. Ignore the
name field and press TAB to move to the "Use this profile for". The
default is "Manual activation". Press the right arrow to select "Current
application (Winword)" and press ENTER.

Now, any changes you make to NVDA's settings while in Word will be saved to
this Word profile, and any changes made elsewhere will be saved to the main
"normal" configuration. Note that at this point, if you alt+tab to say
Firefox, and then adjust the speech rate, that will be reflected in Word as
well. If however, you adjust the speech rate while in Word, changes you
make to the speech rate in other programs WILL NOT affect Word, as you have
already specified the speech rate to use in Word (Or to put it another way
- the "word" profile, will inherit all the settings from the normal profile
that you don't explicitly set while in the Word profile).

but when im browsing the net it wont report anything only headings
links etc. can this be done?
like how jaws has skims.
