Have You same problem with Thunderbird?
Hello.
I have a question. Have You encountered problem, that NVDA reads everything in Thunderbird from status bar? I think, that It'll be good to contact Mozilla for this thing. Ofcourse, another good option is to turn off status bar. But I think, that good thing is to contact thunderbird. Thank You. Marco

Re: Reading messages list in Mozilla Thunderbird
The following presumes you have already installed the previously noted Mozilla Apps Enhancements add on, have restarted NVDA, and have Thunderbird up and running with focus on the Thunderbird window.
1. Hit NVDA+H. A dialog entitled, Manage columns, appears. That dialog is composed of a list of the columns in the order they are currently being displayed from left to right, with the leftmost column at the top of the list. 2. The next thing I suggest you do, but this step is optional, is to hit ALT+O, which will cause the list of Thunderbird columns, in Thunderbird itself, to be displayed with a checkbox in front of those columns you wish to have displayed, and nothing (unchecked) for those you want to hide. It's worth down arrowing through that column list and deciding if there are any currently checked (displayed) columns you'd like to hide, and uncheck those, and vice versa. Hitting ESC closes the Thunderbird column selection process and throws you back to the Mozilla Apps Enhancements dialog. 3. Back in the dialog column list, gain focus on the column that you would like to move. If you want it to be to the left of where it is (and that means it would be announced first), then hit ALT+U to move it up by one position. Repeat the ALT+U as many times as necessary to get it where you want it. If you want this column to be announced later than it currently is (moving it to the right/down the list), hit ALT+D as many times as necessary to get it where you want it relative to other columns. 4. Review your column order by going to the top of the list and down arrowing through it so you know what the "First announced to last announced" order is. If you find a mistake, then repeat step 3, moving the column or columns to where you want them. 5. Navigate to the Close button for the dialog and activate it. You're done. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

Re: Reading messages list in Mozilla Thunderbird
Eilana,
If you don't have the Thunderbird add-on, Quick Folder Key Navigation, installed I suggest you get that, too. Instructions follow. IMPORTANT: For those using Thunderbird with a screen reader I strongly suggest installing the Quick Folder Key Navigation extension. You will only need to install this extension once for any instance of Thunderbird you might be using. This allows you to jump from folder in the folder tree using first letter navigation to move between them. Without it, this does not always work. You will only need to install this extension once for any instance of Thunderbird you might be using. If you are using JAWS or NVDA, searching for this add on within Thunderbird is quite simple: · Activate the Tools Menu (ALT+T), add-ons option (followed by A) and tab 3 times, at which point you should be on the Extensions Pane. If you happen to land on any other pane then use Down Arrow (or Up Arrow) until you hear Extensions. · Tab 2 times, which lands you in the search all add-ons edit box. · Then type in Quick Folder Key Navigation, hit enter, and wait a few seconds for the search to complete. · Tab 5 times more gain focus on the list of results. Then hit Down Arrow to start navigating the list. Quick Folder Key Navigation should be the first result. · Tab 2 times to land on the Install button then hit enter. · After the install completes you need to exit Thunderbird and start it up again for this extension to become active -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

Re: Reading messages list in Mozilla Thunderbird
Eilana,
The default column order used in Thunderbird places the Subject before the Sender. This can be changed simply by rearranging the order in which the columns are displayed in your inbox. The Mozilla Enhancements Add-On allows you to rearrange the columns after hitting NVDA+H. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

Reading messages list in Mozilla Thunderbird
Eilana Benish
Hello I hope you're all well during this challenging time. The problem I have with Mozilla Thunderbird with NVDA is that when navigating with the arrow keys in messages list, is the subject is read first by NVDA. I was wondering if there is a way to change settings so NVDA will read 1st the sender name. thanks in advance Eilana

check boxes dont' work in sim tool kit pro
An odd subject but not necessarily true. I don't really know how to explain this one. This is an electron app by the way so I don't really know if this is a chrome thing or not. steps
resultsNotice that links don't work, check boxes can't be checked and edit fields can't be typed into, only in that particular applet. The rest of the links in the app work. The developer is a bit stumped as to why this is not working. If someone can tell me what to say to him, or can contact him on their discord which can be found in the dash board, please let me know. He wants to make the app accessible but does not know what he is doing. He has nvda but has not even I don't think tired to fix this. It is not on his list to fix now, but it will be soon. Re: How can I get the date from a Braille display?
Cordelia Scharpf
Hi Daniel,
This is almost a finger-twisting exercise to accomplish using Braille Extender app as you’d need to issue four commands altogether in rapid succession, meaning two sets of two different key combinations. I tried unsuccessfully many times, and nothing showed on the display. However, there is a neat alternative, which shows the time and the date all at once on the display.
Are you using the Braille Extender? If not, where might I find a similar command for the date (from a Braille display) if I were to temporarily disable this app?
Best, Cordelia

Alright. What happens when you issue NVDA+F12 twice rapidly from the Braille keyboard then?

Daniel,
On both PCs (one Windows 10, the other Windows 7) running NVDA 2019.3.1 and with both the voice and Braille display turned on, I got the following:
NVDA+F12: announces and displays time NVDA (held down)+F12 (twice rapidly): announces and displays date, including the day
HTH, Cordelia
From: nvda@nvda.groups.io [mailto:nvda@nvda.groups.io] On Behalf Of Daniel Gartmann
Interesting observations.
Anybody else using a Braille display with a Braille keyboard who can check if it is possible to issue the command to show the date?
Daniel

By the way, and not using a braille display, when I wanted to get the date announced when NVDA was running I did hold down NVDA then hit F12 twice in rapid succession. Re: NVDA Audio Themes Add On
The only thing I can find that uses Audio Theme as part of it's name is the NVDA Audio Themes Add-On. Activate that link and you'll be taken to the GitHub page for the developers releases that can be downloaded. The latest appears to be a beta (and the one before it was, too), v6.0b2, from December 2019.

Couldn't the NVDA Mozilla apps enhancement add-on include some sort of fix to stop this until Mozilla gets around to removing the tag causing the problem? There would be no logical reason to create code that "fixes" something that can be worked around simply by disabling it for the time being using available controls. And anyone who needs to shut up the status bar should simply disable it for now, until the fix already made gets pushed out to Thunderbird. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

Re: Thunderbird issue update (comments should be sent to GitHub): changes to Thunderbird is responsible for annoying status bar announcements
Status Update from Bugzilla: Bug assigned, and fixed, as of an hour ago. I don't know what the roll out cycle is for Thunderbird and this sort of fix. I imagine it won't take long and will be in the third dot level, e.g., 68.7.1 (the current release is 68.7.0).
This whole episode is precisely the reason I keep harping on the need to file bugs. Complaining here is just that (and not that doing so is inappropriate), but without actually bringing the issues to the attention of those who can fix them it's generally a waste of breath (or typing). My offer still stands that if anyone, at any point, wants to learn how to submit bug/issue reports I'll sit down with you and walk you through doing one, creating step-by-step instructions as we go. That's how most of my step-by-steps have been created, by actually walking through a process myself and recording the steps or doing the same to assist someone else. You can't really create a "fake bug" or you'd be justifiably run out of town on a rail. Developers have enough to do already. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Power is being told you're not loved and not being destroyed by it. ~ Madonna

Buttons in Forms?
David Russell
Hello NVDA group,
Is there a way to work with a given online form when the accept or confirm call for pressing enter key on a button? I have had two occasions where I can press enter on the button to cancel, but the choice to accept does not complete when pressing enter key on the confirm or accept. I am using NVDA and the latest FF version. Moreover, sighted assist is not always convenient. Thanks for help in advance! -- David Russell david.sonofhashem@gmail.com
