even 17.2 is very great, windows xp and seven are really great and i
am completely sure that i never use windows ten!
sometimes i use 2017.3 sometimes 2017.2.
2017.3 is very great for the people who can use builtin ocr of windows
ten, but i used it more than one month and did not find any especial
feature or bug fixed for myself.
maybe i am novice and dont need many programs that people use in general.

hi.

many people whome i know, dont use nvda because of several reasons: i

disagree with most of them!

1. they dont know nvda and simply say: because its free, it means that

its not good, or its imperfect, even one of them told that nvda is

like a toy! not screen reader of daily use!

i became very sad for there claim, i really love nvda, and promised to

use it till the end of my life, even when one day i become sighted!

i dont believe that nvda is only for blind users, its one of the

divine blessings for me that i never want to miss it!

2. nvda cursor are not simple as jaws cursor.

i agree with this part, and i wish that nvda cursor worked exactly as

jaws cursor without need to use numpad!

3. they simply dont love espeak and they wish to use eloquence, but i

disagree about this part too!

iven voice i believe that its the most lovely, sweet, friendly, and

enjoyable voice and that i even dont think about other voices and

synthesizers.

i can read hundreds of pages of book with this excellent voice using SayAll!

its voice is very understandable, (but i only love english US voice

and its one of the main reasons that i cant use beyond 2017.2 and

2017.3 versions of nvda.

2017.4 and later, has not the capability of using persian plus english US!

4. many people like me, hate ribbons and they are glad for using jaws,

because jaws has virtual ribbon menues, that enables them to use

ribbons as they use classic menues!

5. jaws is very customizable, and has numerous settings for change.

but honestly, i really love the simplicity of nvda settings!

hope that help you and nvda developers.

God bless you!

Temporary: rules in this dictionary affect all speech in NVDA, but only for the current session. These rules are temporary and will be lost if NVDA is restarted.

If you add something to the temporary dictionary it will behave as you describe.  If you add something to the other dictionaries they should stay there.

I saw the message before you answered mine.  I didn’t understand the problem before.  I don’t know what is causing the problem.  This won’t solve the problem but it will give you access to a lot of settings in Edge, assuming it does what it does in Chrome.

In the address bar, type about colon settings and press enter.  My e-mail program doesn’t let me type the syntax properly so I wrote out the colon.  Don’t space anywhere in this address.  The settings page will open.  As for how to actually solve the problem and get access to the menu, I don’t know.  Maybe you could uninstall and reinstall it.

I don't know how much  clearer I can make it. Apparently, I may be the only one having this issue.  As stated in a previous message.  I launch Edge.  I press alt by itself.  I Press alt + F.  I press alt + S.  Nothing happens.  I used to get some new page of settings load with either just the alt Key or the alt + F key.  Now nothing happens.

In Chrome, just pressing alt doesn’t open the menu.  If you hold alt and type f, the menu opens.  But I don’t think this is the problem being discussed, though I’m not sure what is being described that used to work.

Alt key alone doesn't work in a lot of modern probgrammes including, I think, chrome...modern programmes do not really have a "menu bar" as such so the alt key by itself does nothing, rather than take you there as it does in old windows programmes  that have the traditional bar at the top of the window.

Ron,

Any suggestions?

Re: Any accessible hex editors for screen reader users?

Stephen

I just tried the latest HXD, which I downloaded yesterday, and I am facing a really weird problem.
Not all of the data are visible to screen readers like NVDA and JFW, only bits of it.  For some reason, both JAWS and NVDA think that there are spaces where the hex characters should be.
This didn't happen in the older version of HXD, version 1.7.7.0, it could read every bit of data you arrowed over.
Let's say you've just loaded up a file to edit, and you've got a line of code that reads: AB DD 1B 2D 27 9A.
Both NVDA and jaws have trouble reading the data.
When using your review cursor, or arrows, you'll see something like:
    DD    2D    9A.
I wonder if there is any way to fix this?

I will be trying this out myself, but I would note that this is a Beta build. I would let Joseph, the maintainer of this addon I believe, to make further comments, if any.

Thanks.

Re: item from the speach dictionary disappears

Quentin Christensen

Which speech dictionary did you add it to?  There are three:

Default: rules in this dictionary affect all speech in NVDA.
Voice: rules in this dictionary affect speech for the synthesizer voice currently being used.
Temporary: rules in this dictionary affect all speech in NVDA, but only for the current session. These rules are temporary and will be lost if NVDA is restarted.

If you add something to the temporary dictionary it will behave as you describe.  If you add something to the other dictionaries they should stay there.

Quentin.

Re: Alt Keys In Edge Not Working For Menu Access

I’m not sure what the problem is that is being described, but this is evidently a change where what used to work in Edge no longer does.

Have you tried, for instance, Alt+plus a letter? The same thing happens with me in latest Edge, where the alt key alone doesn’t work. Hope this helps some.

radical change to dropbox

Hi list ken here.  Just now wanting to put a file into our station dropbox got a shocker.  A whole bunch of buttons not the list of folders.  I see the one folder I’m in but a whole bunch of add people the names of the people in it and buttons.  Not folder itself our station manager says it’s a change dropbox has made in the view.  She’s going to email me the quick fix but how does this change impact the NVDA ad on?

Re: Alt Keys In Edge Not Working For Menu Access

Whoops, Ignore the last item for getting the About information for the browser, as this definitely varies across the Chromium-based browsers.

It's part of Help for Chrome (ALT+F,E,G) and Edge (ALT+F,B,M) and for Brave it's a standalone item reached via ALT+F,B,B,Enter  (there are two Bs because they use B as a shortcut letter for both Bookmarks and About Brave, so you have to hit it twice to gain focus on the latter).

Re: Alt Keys In Edge Not Working For Menu Access

All of the Chromium-based browsers have never used a conventional menu that one makes display with just ALT.  There is a menu key, which can be activated either by ALT+F or ALT,DownArrow.

After doing so, what used to be the entire menu structure opens in dropdown with dividers between what had been the separate menus.  I personally like this better.  Virtually every single item on those menus has a shortcut letter or, even better, a full keyboard shortcut such that you never need to invoke the menu.  Here's a list of the most commonly used ones that are common across browsers.  In the case of new Edge, substitute the term Favorites for Bookmarks (and why Microsoft didn't ditch the Favorites terminology I'll never understand):

New Tab CTRL+T
New Window CTRL+N
New Private/Incognito Window CTRL+SHIFT+N

History CTRL+H
Open most recently closed tab CTRL+SHIFT+T

Bookmark this tab CTRL+D
Bookmark all open tabs CTRL+SHIFT+D
Open Bookmark Manager CTRL+SHIFT+O
Show Bookmarks Bar CTRL+SHIFT+B

Open Downloads Manager CTRL+J

Print CTRL+P

Find (browser find) CTRL+F

Settings ALT+F,S  or ALT,DownArrow,S

About browser (get version info) ALT+F,A

Has anybody like you asked the developers of NVDA  to fix your persion speech for you so you can upgrade to windows ten if you have to? I’m sure there are other people who use persion as well. I thought they  would have updated it. Then you would not have to stay on 17.3

hi.

many people whome i know, dont use nvda because of several reasons: i

disagree with most of them!

1. they dont know nvda and simply say: because its free, it means that

its not good, or its imperfect, even one of them told that nvda is

like a toy! not screen reader of daily use!

i became very sad for there claim, i really love nvda, and promised to

use it till the end of my life, even when one day i become sighted!

i dont believe that nvda is only for blind users, its one of the

divine blessings for me that i never want to miss it!

2. nvda cursor are not simple as jaws cursor.

i agree with this part, and i wish that nvda cursor worked exactly as

jaws cursor without need to use numpad!

3. they simply dont love espeak and they wish to use eloquence, but i

disagree about this part too!

iven voice i believe that its the most lovely, sweet, friendly, and

enjoyable voice and that i even dont think about other voices and

synthesizers.

i can read hundreds of pages of book with this excellent voice using SayAll!

its voice is very understandable, (but i only love english US voice

and its one of the main reasons that i cant use beyond 2017.2 and

2017.3 versions of nvda.

2017.4 and later, has not the capability of using persian plus english US!

4. many people like me, hate ribbons and they are glad for using jaws,

because jaws has virtual ribbon menues, that enables them to use

ribbons as they use classic menues!

5. jaws is very customizable, and has numerous settings for change.

but honestly, i really love the simplicity of nvda settings!

hope that help you and nvda developers.

God bless you!
