Hey Gene,

There's another thought that crossed my mind as well, the utility that you're speaking of I seem to remember hearing or reading something about such a thing quite a few years back but have no idea if it's still in existence. I'll be ringing Microsoft sometime tomorrow, if I can't find this utility.  Thanks for bringing that up.

I don’t know what was done to your computer, but I believe that even for something unrelated to software, if a computer is brought into a shop, routine diagnostic tests and maintenance may be done and I suspect something was done that caused the problems.  Those who have more technical knowledge and know what shops routinely do may want to comment.  In thinking about what you are describing and about a shop I used to use years ago, I’m beginning to think that if you take a computer in for a specific problem and it wrks properly aside from that, that it might be a good idea to instruct the shop to do nothing else.

Hi Jackie,

That's something I was thinking about possibly having to do, we're on
the same wavelength. Trust me I already as they say, googled it so we
don't even have to go there.  Needless to say, the hits were enormous,
and the answer is the proverbial needle in a haystack.   Where can you
find the actual executable file for performing the re-install, that's
the question now.

Sarah, I too would appreciate the link for your videos.
Which is more accessible, Ideal Flight Special Edition for Prepare 3-d, or for FSX-SE?
Looking forward to viewing your videos to hopefully learn.

There is no add on for flying with NVDA. You have to use screen review and ocr to do most of the work. It's a bit of a pain, but it is doable. If you want more info check out my new lbry channel where I am going to post every flight sim video from 2018 to present, if I can find them all. I use NVDA and later on this year I'm going to post a video showing how the screen reader is connected. Give me about 6 months to put everything together though , but this is a project I'm working on now.

Hello to all.
I know that Sarah would be a great resource for this question.
But curious if anyone could give feedback on using both either Microsoft Flight Simulator version ten, AKA FSX Steam version and or the newer program Prepare 3-d now I believe is version 5 with NVDA?
I also have been watching quite a bit about the up coming Microsoft Flight simulator 2020 project that's all over the internet and face book as well.
This project is suppose to be out around October 13th, 2020.
But I thought that I saw somewhere that it might be released sometime now in September.
I just uninstalled all of my flying programs.
Many thanks.

I played with it a few weeks back, but ultimately removed the addon as it crashed NVDA too often.

I seen this add on a little while back on the section under development.

has any one who has a bit more sight have a play with this add on and how well did it work?

I saw it when installed went up to 16 times magnification in Windows I thought it used to only be like 4 times at one time maybe windows 7 or did it change later on?

it seems to have a stable release number but is still under development. Is it been reviewed at the moment to go onto the main add on list? or are bugs etc still be ironed out?

The add on I am referring to can be found at https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/windowsMagnifier.en.html

Has any one used it with the mouse and did they have any problems like windows locking up? or any ting like that.

There may be some members who could benefit from this add on when it gets released to the main list.

I was also wondering there may be others on this list who do not know about it and may help them.

Assuming you are coming from another screenreader, then often the biggest thing for people is the voice, although depending on how you use your other screen reader, you might find that you need to modify some of NVDA's default settings to be more like what you are used to.  If you are coming from Jaws, there is a handy guide for things you might find useful here: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda-community/wiki/SwitchingFromJawsToNVDA

If you are coming from Window Eyes there is also a guide: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda-community/wiki/Switching-from-Window-Eyes-to-NVDA

And just on the voices on their own, we have a page of extra voices here: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/wiki/ExtraVoices

Kind regards

Good luck, practice, and just, practice hard. It is up to you to learn NVDA, after that you need to read the manuals and google and stuff. We have no tips.

Re: Interesting question regarding my system tray

It's not specifically an NVDA quirk, but a Windows one, it's just that because NVDA is always running, it appears more often than with many other icons - basically it's just Windows not always cleaning up properly when a program exits.

We're aware of it, but there's nothing we can do about it, Microsoft will need to fix it.  Of course, if NVDA is crashing or misbehaving, that we DO definitely want to know about, so do be sure to let us know, ask in here, or create a Github issue.

Regards

Quentin.

Now that you mention it, I have seen exactly this behavior before.  And the disappearing act, too.

Re: Add-on Updater 20.04.1 #addonrelease

It already hit my machine about 45 minutes ago when I had to fire up NVDA for accessibility testing.

Hi all,
Add-on Updater 20.04.1 is now available. This is identical to 20.04 except for addition of update checks for Speech History add-on. Soon I’ll register recently added add-ons to Add-on Updater so updates can be checked, starting with add-on 20.05 (new add-ons to be registered include Phonetic Punctuation and Tony’s Enhancements).
Cheers,

Yep, and particularly when it comes to Edge, as some people are using the stable builds while others are using the Beta and Dev builds (I don't know any Canary users).
But even outside that, there are very frequent claims of using the "latest" {insert specific software here} that, when asked for a version number and such is produced, turns out to be anything but.
These are really important if one is to give reliable advice, and I learned that a long long time ago when I was more on the receiving end than providing end.
