Re: Is there a way to change the volume of NVDA's sounds?

I don’t know if system sounds would have any bearing on the volume of these
sounds, though I doubt it. These aren’t system sounds, they are NVDA
sounds. I tried Rosemary’s suggestion and I found it both lowers the
volume of speech and of the kinds of sounds being asked about so it appears that
will solve the problem. You may want to remember the current number of the
NVDA sounds settings so you can set it to the same volume again if you
wish.

Hi You could try switching off the focus change sounds in NVDA settings, NVDA will then announce focus changes verbally. Alternatively, you could turn down System sounds in the Volume Mixer app.

Hi all.
Pretty straightforward question, can it be done? I'm listening to some fairly faint videos so I have to crank my volume up. I lower the volume of my synth with the ring, but NVDA's sounds, e.g. going in and out of focus mode, are still pretty loud in comparison to everything else. I suppose I could just turn that sound off if it comes down to it, but I figured I'd find out if I'm missing something obvious first.

Brian, If you open the NVDA menu and navigate to the tools menu, check for addon updates should be at or near the bottom of the list. Hope this helps.

Add-On Updater: Is there a way to force it to check for updates?
Joseph,
I believe I've asked you this before, and I apologize for needing to ask again. I have another machine that I just updated from NVDA 2019.2 to NVDA 2019.3.1. I also intentionally removed and reinstalled Add-On Updater. All other extant add-ons are incompatible with 2019.3.1, and I know this. Add-on Updater did activate yesterday, but before I did the 2019.3.1 update to NVDA. I am curious to see what it does with all the incompatible add-ons, but when I invoke NVDA today it is not coming up to check them. I know there is some mechanism that keeps it from checking again for a certain period of time since we've discussed this before. I have looked in settings and the settings specific to Add-on Updater, but I'm not seeing a button or other control that would force it to do a check for updates now. Does such exist, and I'm missing it? If so, would you please describe where it is and how to invoke it? -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. Hi, John,
Go to the voice menu with NVDA insert V. You’ll be in the voices menu. Tab until you hear volume. If it’s at 100 percent, use the left arrow to lower it.
Hope this helps.

Re: Forcing NVDA Find versus Browser Find
I'm not 100 percent positive, but I think i have seen this once or twice in browse mode. I usually toggle between the two modes then it works for a few weeks and I normally forget about it until it happens when I don't want it to, like when I edit a stream title, look for my briefing, search for something on froogle, etc. I think I've seen this on discord actually but like I said, it happens so rarely, I can't really begin to recognize a pattern. Hello everyone, I am requesting that everyone take a look at https://nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/topic/questions/73161884?p=,,,20,0,0,0::recentpostdate%2Fsticky,,,20,2,0,73161884 as an example of what happens when users do not read threads entirely before responding. There are many further examples like it. In particular, please pay attention to messages sent by Gene. Please, I am urging every user to read messages in their entirety before responding. Using threaded view is a great tool for helping out with this. Using the web version is also great for this. If you choose not to use threaded view or the web version, please make certain you have read to each message in the thread before responding. Why is this important? There are many users on this list, and there is simply no reason to get multiple responses to a thread saying essentially the same thing just because a user won't bother reading through a thread before responding. Receiving many emails has an impact on individuals from regions of the world where bandwidth matters. It also makes going through emails more time-consuming, and makes threads longer in the archives when users must go through threads saying the exact same thing. Finally, if you don't know the answer to a question, please, please refrain from answering to say that you don't know, google it, etc etc. These kinds of messages are another example of extraneous messages that don't need to make it to the list. It's fine if you don't know, but there is no reason to respond if you don't. This thread will immediately be locked, If you have comments on this message, or any other topic, please send your thoughts to nvda+owner@nvda.groups.io and we can discuss further. And there is a fix that appears to be headed for rolling out in a fix update to Thunderbird. But turning off the Status Bar is the quick and dirty workaround for the moment.

And I'd hope that active support for any OS would not go on for any longer than 1 year after any OS goes out of support by its maker. The question needs more discussion. Is this a problem with new
versions of NVDA, perhaps after the change to the new version of Python or has
it been going on for some time? and is thisw a very limited problem or
more widespread? Also, does it only affect Windows 10 users or other
users?

Unable to get sound of typed alphabets
pranaw kumar
Dear All, We have made Indian language TTS voice SAPI compatible and accessed the same in NVDA. It is working properly but we are facing one issue. When we type either English alphabet or Indian Language Alphabet through keyboard, it is not getting passed to NVDA and so we are unable to listen the sound. However, when word is typed it is working fine. If alphabets/single characters are present on document it speaks.Kind Regards /सादर Pranaw Kumar / प्रणव कुमार

Re: Forcing NVDA Find versus Browser Find

Hi Brian I get this regularly, for some reason it triggers the site’s “Find in page” functionality. When this happens, I usually press enter on the site’s “Close find” feature, make sure NVDA is in browse mode then do NVDA+Ctrl+f again. Occasionally, you can’t get into browse mode, in which case I reload and try again. If it doesn’t work next time I grouch profusely and swear never to use the site again.
Cheers Chris
