At least on my desktop, your addon mentions volume changes, e.g. "NVDA

volume 60", but my synthesizer volume doesn't change. That's using the SAPI5 version of Eloquence, in case that matters. it seems to apply to all of the SAPI5 voices, but it does change with others, e.g. Microsoft's OneCore. I haven't checked the sounds yet, but I assume if it changes the voice volume, it will affect those as well. I installed the stable version.

I don’t know why, but using the ring only lowers speech and has no effect
on NVDA sounds. I expected the ring and the dialog setting to do the same
thing, but the settings aren’t identical in what they do.

I'll have to go and try that because I'd think lowering the volume with the synth ring would do the exact same thing. Maybe they are lowered, but if so they're still significantly louder than speech. It's also good to know that with the sound off focus changes will be announced verbally, since I've never messed with that. Thanks all! Oh yeah, I'm watching a video music lesson. Here it is on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mz1I4Nc9iV0 I'm doing it from their website because I just started paying for all the lessons, but the volume's all the way up. He's just kind of quiet. Other lessons are louder so they're fine. So I can lower speech currently and turn him up and get a good volume, but you have to go into focus mode to start the video playing, and those sounds are louder than everything else. Now I have a couple ways of fixing it, and I'll bet one of them will work. It's perfectly OK to give links to Add-Ons, even if you are the author. In this case I'll save Tony the additional effort. From the "official" add-ons page:

Yes, I wrote an add-on for that - it's called Tony's enhancements. Once you install it you can adjust NVDA volume by pressing NVDA+Control+PageUp/PageDown.

Using WhatsApp on The Computer

Dear all,
As the subject line implies, I would like to access WhatsApp on my computer using NVDA. * WhatsApp Web, according to the F123 Access service that used to make it screen reader accessible, is no longger such and F123 Access is now abandonware. * Is WhatsApp for Desktop, the application, accessible with NVDA? Do let me know. I would greatly appreciate any assistance. Thanks. -- Best Regards Bhavya Shah Blogger at Hiking Across Horizons: https://bhavyashah125.wordpress.com/ E-mail Address: bhavya.shah125@gmail.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bhavyashah125/

Hi, The latter – ability to check for add-on updates from Add-ons Manager – is something I’ve been working on for years and I haven’t forgotten about it… or that request might be enhanced with something big being discussed (can’t comment on users list at the moment). Cheers, Joseph

Re: Add-On Updater: Is there a way to force it to check for updates?
Jesse,
Thank you very much, and, yes, it helps a lot. I feel really, really foolish when I know I've actually checked that menu, but stopped scanning at the Manage Add-Ons item, and activating it. Having that option in the Tools menu makes perfect sense, but if there is a way to duplicate it via button in the actual Add-Ons Manager settings I think that would be a good idea as well. But I've given myself a big ol' dope slap on this one!! -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. I don’t know if system sounds would have any bearing on the volume of these
sounds, though I doubt it. These aren’t system sounds, they are NVDA
sounds. I tried Rosemary’s suggestion and I found it both lowers the
volume of speech and of the kinds of sounds being asked about so it appears that
will solve the problem. You may want to remember the current number of the
NVDA sounds settings so you can set it to the same volume again if you
wish.

Brian, If you open the NVDA menu and navigate to the tools menu, check for addon updates should be at or near the bottom of the list. Hope this helps.

Add-On Updater: Is there a way to force it to check for updates?
Joseph,
I believe I've asked you this before, and I apologize for needing to ask again. I have another machine that I just updated from NVDA 2019.2 to NVDA 2019.3.1. I also intentionally removed and reinstalled Add-On Updater. All other extant add-ons are incompatible with 2019.3.1, and I know this. Add-on Updater did activate yesterday, but before I did the 2019.3.1 update to NVDA. I am curious to see what it does with all the incompatible add-ons, but when I invoke NVDA today it is not coming up to check them. I know there is some mechanism that keeps it from checking again for a certain period of time since we've discussed this before. I have looked in settings and the settings specific to Add-on Updater, but I'm not seeing a button or other control that would force it to do a check for updates now. Does such exist, and I'm missing it? If so, would you please describe where it is and how to invoke it? -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform.
