Re: Is there a way to change the volume of NVDA's sounds?
Chris Mullins
Hi Jim It’s a series of keystrokes enabling you to alter aspects of the current synthesizer settings on the fly. You hold down NVDA+Control, then left/right arrows give you access to Volume, voice, rate, rate boost and pitch then loops back to volume, hence the “ring” analogy. Once you have selected one of the above controls, still holding down the NVDA+Control keys, use up/down arrows to adjusct the parameter for that control. Cheers Chris

I don’t know why, but using the ring only lowers speech and has no effect on NVDA sounds. I expected the ring and the dialog setting to do the same thing, but the settings aren’t identical in what they do.

I'll have to go and try that because I'd think lowering the volume with the synth ring would do the exact same thing. Maybe they are lowered, but if so they're still significantly louder than speech. It's also good to know that with the sound off focus changes will be announced verbally, since I've never messed with that. Thanks all! Oh yeah, I'm watching a video music lesson. Here it is on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mz1I4Nc9iV0 I'm doing it from their website because I just started paying for all the lessons, but the volume's all the way up. He's just kind of quiet. Other lessons are louder so they're fine. So I can lower speech currently and turn him up and get a good volume, but you have to go into focus mode to start the video playing, and those sounds are louder than everything else. Now I have a couple ways of fixing it, and I'll bet one of them will work. Hi. Press control plus NVDA plus . quickly three times once you've moved the cursor to the current word you want spelled phonetically. NVDA will spell it phonetically, (example: mike, bravo, etc.) Hope this helps.

nvda and newer thunderbird
Hi.
Well effected thunderbird versions with the statusbar issue include beta 71 and 68 esr. There is a thunderbird 72 beta 2 out, chances are the fix is in this for the beta channel. Now we just need to wait for it to be backported to stable. Hopefully now we are in the live user stable ish branch we should see something soon.

Hi, I am not sure if this is what you need, but to get the information for a character such as a, alpha ... z, zulu on a laptop press the NVDA key (I use caps lock) along with the period key tapping the period key twice quickly as you keep the caps lock pressed. Tapping the period only once along with the NVDA key just reads the character. I hope this helps (smile) L. Mehta

I wrote a tutorial for the web version but have not put it on my website. You will need a mobile phone with whats app on You will need to change some settings so it points to the web version and you will need to scan in a I think it is a qr code then it will sign you in. Your phone is used to do this but needs to be pointed towards the monitor. Do not do my trick I do not have the monitor on and thought I had turned it on maybe off then scanned the QR code but would not sign me in the reason was the monitor was off as confirmed by the wife. Guess that is life. when you are in there you can use nvda to jump around and chat with your friends and or read there messages. At the time I did it I do not think it could do audio or video chats so just left it on the computer. I was sure my camera is working but could not see any settings at that time to add a camera//mike or maybe it just can not do it as not part of the software yet. I had just started using the mobile version so hoped it would work with my video camera/mic on the computer. It is a rough draft but think it was finished off but can not remember if it covered groups as it could get confusing? depending how it was done. I have not been back in lately to see if it has been added or tried another camera/mic just in case. Let us know if you want a copy of it I can post as is but a more polished copy will go on my website when I get a little time free. Just come in from getting the deck rails sanded, clean etc and have it ready to paint which she is doing now. Time for a coffee and a rest. Gene nz

Re: Is there a way to change the volume of NVDA's sounds?
Tony Malykh
That would probably imply that sapi5 eloquence is using some other way of playing generated sounds, other than NVDA's API in tones.py. In this case it would probably be impossible to set its volume in a centralized way. I tested my add-on on MIcrosoft sapi5 voices, OneCore, espeak and non-sapi version of eloquence, and it worked for all of them.

volume 60", but my synthesizer volume doesn't change. That's using the SAPI5 version of Eloquence, in case that matters. it seems to apply to all of the SAPI5 voices, but it does change with others, e.g. Microsoft's OneCore. I haven't checked the sounds yet, but I assume if it changes the voice volume, it will affect those as well. I installed the stable version.

It's perfectly OK to give links to Add-Ons, even if you are the author. In this case I'll save Tony the additional effort. From the "official" add-ons page:
