Latest NVDA and Word 365

Marie <magpie.mn@...>

When I fired up NVDA this morning there was an update which I installed. Sorry don’t know the version but I always update so I assume it is the latest version not a beta.
I have a Word 365 document in my Drop Box document folder. I can open it as usual with Jaws 2020 but when I try to open it with NVDA, it will not bring up the document and I get “Drop Box Window” spoken by NVDA and there is absolutely nothing I can do from there. Harrowing or tabbing or pressing enter have no effect. All I can do is close it with the system menu or alt f4. I have tried exiting and re-entering NVDA and have tried re-booting the device but no change.
This is on my Surface tablet running Win 10 Pro.
When opening the same document with NVDA on my desktop running Win 10 home, it opens and functions normally?
Stumped in Reno! LOL!

I still use u/mutorrent.
It's nota great solution but if Qbittorent has a context menu or something you could always check the properties to make sure you know which one you are on. Then you can remember the sequence, select the ones you want and delete them.

Subject: [nvda] Torrents in QBitTorrent, or other accessible torrent clients.

Hi all. I'm back with another question.

I've been using QBitTorrent for torrents, but so far as I can tell, the list of torrents is inaccessible. So I've been using the web interface.
While that's accessible, my problem is this. Say I have, I dunno, twelve torrents going. I want to delete seven of them. In the web interface, I have to pick one, delete it, pick another one, delete it, and so on. Is there a way to do this in QBitTorrent itself, so I can pick multiple torrents and just delete them? Ideally it would also ask me if I wanted to delete the actual data or not.

Alternatively, can anybody recommend another client that's accessible? I was using utorrent/mu torrent, whatever it's called, but one place I check doesn't like it anymore because it has some sort of security issue or something. That's why I switched to QBitTorrent. It wasn't really accessible either. You'd think a list box wouldn't be that hard but apparently torrent client designers like to make them non-standard or something. So if anybody's got something really accessible, I'd love to know about it. Maybe that is QBitTorrent and I'm just missing something.

Re: notification staying in nvda

No, because its so infrequent and intermittant that it does not always appear.

Its appearing a lot more than it used to, but its something like once or twice a week to a month.

And I need to get it just right.

If a notification appears and I have focus, then it will go away.

It never seems to be a problem with disk notifications like autoplay and it may in fact appear but not be a problem.

99.9% of the time its not a big issue but it can happen.

Its been an issue about twice last year and once before that.

On another system I use it seems to be an issue a lot of the time but its not constant.

And you need to get the conditions just right.

The notification needs to appear at startup and not be focused, the notification needs to appear in the background and then come to the foreground and either you don't move it off or dismiss it or simply don't see it.

The notification needs to appear behind other windows, and not appear to the user, untill you close all windows or clear it from action centre.

Even then there is a 50% chance you won't see it and even then if it does appear it can close itself and be gone.

I am not sure how one would be able to replicate the condition and till now I have never caught a log fragment of it.

Restarting nvda doesn't usually fix it and I have to reboot to make the thing stop.

Nvda states in the log that it is a os error and a live region error.

If this is a issue with windows does it exist on the 2004 rc at this time or not.

If not then  I will just update when it comes time to do so as usual.

Its not a big showstopper but I have had it appear on multiple devices, on builds of windows 10 from 1903 up and I have seen it on 18 xx builds to.

Not as much but it does happen.

I think it has to do with if the notification is focused or not but mostly I don't even dismiss the notifications or move them to action centre, I just clear them out after reading.

I guess I could just turn them all off but if I do that I won't get messages and that could be a problem in of itself.

Hi Gene,

Oh, so WhatsAppp Web is still usable? I am aware of the general
process of scanning the QR code and will hopefully figure out its
interface by experiment. It would be great if you could tutorial you

Thanks.

I wrote a tutorial for the web version but have not put it on my website.

You will need a mobile phone with whats app on

You will need to change some settings so it points to the web version
and you will need to scan in a I think it is a qr code then it will sign
you in.

Your phone is used to do this but needs to be pointed towards the monitor.

Do not do my trick I do not have the monitor on and thought I had turned
it on maybe off then scanned the QR code but would not sign me in the
reason was the monitor was off as confirmed by the wife.

Guess that is life.

when you are in there you can use nvda to jump around and chat with your
friends and or read there messages.

At the time I did it I do not think it could do audio or video chats so
just left it on the computer. I was sure my camera is working but could
not see any settings at that time to add a camera//mike or maybe it just
can not do it as not part of the software yet.

I had just started using the mobile version so hoped it would work with
my video camera/mic on the computer.

It is a rough draft but think it was finished off but can not remember
if it covered groups as it could get confusing? depending how it was done.

I have not been back in lately to see if it has been added or tried
another camera/mic just in case.

Let us know if you want a copy of it I can post as is but a more
polished copy will go on my website when I get a little time free.

Just come in from getting the deck rails sanded, clean etc and have it
ready to paint which she is doing now.

Time for a coffee and a rest.

Re: Converting JAWS Dictionaries

Pele,

None that I know of.  But the structure of the NVDA dictionary files is very, very simple.  If you happen to have a JAWS dictionary file that you can e-mail me as an attachment, I might be able to whip something up, though I won't guarantee it.  I don't know how Freedom Scientific lays out the JAWS dictionary files, and that's where the sticking point might be.  But if they're plain text like the NVDA dictionaries are, it shouldn't be all that difficult to figure out how to convert.

It's going to be a long, rainy day here, so this might be a fun task to try.  By the way, anyone who has a JAWS dictionary file they're willing to share should feel free to e-mail it to me as an attachment using the Reply to Sender link at the end of this message.

Re: A question about Vocalizer

Hello,

In addition to what Rui said, from a non commercial point of view, it depends on what you are looking for.

As I work in different languages, English, French, German, after I have tested both products, I prefer using Tiflotecnia's voices, as language switching works fine.

I also had the impression that the voices from code factory were less responsive.

If you like the eloquence synthesiser, you'd better take Code Factory's solution as you get the eloquence voices and the nuance voices.

Hello!

The makers are Tiflotecnia, my company, and CodeFactory...

We have a better technical support and a better automatic language switching...

They have more languages and voices... at least untill now...

Best regards,

Hello folks, quick question.

What is the difference between the two commercially available Vocalizer synths for NVDA? Sorry, I can't recall the sellers off the top of my head.

Thanks in advance.
