Re: Excess verbosity when tabbing through tables in MS Word

Hi Quentin,
While I acknowledge that you have done a good job in outlining possible troubleshooting techniques, I noticed that you did not state if this is an issue that you have happened to replicate. While I understand that setups and configurations are different from computer to computer, I find that developers and those involved in making decisions relating to the screen reader often jump to troubleshooting issues before actually testing them out to confirm. This may frustrate the person who is reporting the issue. I can confirm this has been happening as to me as well, but it started happening with NVDA 2019.3.1. i'm not using Office 365, however, I'm using Microsoft Office 2019.

Re: Excess verbosity when tabbing through tables in MS Word

Have you restarted the PC since you updated NVDA? If not, go to the Start menu and restart the PC. Next, try restarting NVDA with add-ons disabled (NVDA+Q then down arrow to Restart with add-ons disabled and press enter). If it is still happening, a copy of your log at debug level might be useful: First of all, your NVDA key is either INSERT or CAPS LOCK, depending on how you have NVDA setup. So, to set your log level: 1) Press NVDA+control+g to open the general settings 2) Press TAB until the focus is on ""Log level"" 3) Press DOWN ARROW to get to ""Debug"" 4) Press ENTER to close settings 5) Press NVDA+control+c to save settings. To restart NVDA with add-ons disabled: 1) Press NVDA+Q 2) Down arrow to ""Restart with add-ons disabled"" 3) Press ENTER Next, recreate the issue - do whatever cuases problems. To get NVDA's log after that, there are several ways: If NVDA is still running and useable: 1) Press NVDA+F1 to open the log viewer 2) Press CONTROL+A to select all. 3) Press CONTROL+C to copy. 4) Open your email and start a message to info@..., type a little about what you have done and what has happened in the body of the message, then leave a space and: 5) Press CONTROL+V to paste the copied log. Instead of using the log viewer, or if NVDA has stopped and you needed to restart it or the computer: 1) Press WINDOWS+R to open Windows' Run dialog 2) Type %temp% and press ENTER (that's the percent sign, the letter t e m p and another percent sign). Windows Explorer should open to the temporary folder. 3) Press TAB to move to the file list 4) Press N and move down to find up to three files: nvda.log (the log file for the current or most recent NVDA session), nvda-old.og (the log from the previous session) and nvda-crash.dmp (a crash dump with more information created if NVDA itself crashes). 5) Depending on what email program you use, the steps will be different, but attach as many of those three files to an email to info@... as will be useful, and again in the body of the message describe a bit about what has happened.

but thunderbird for a while now, has the prompt from google to allow its access. And definitely its a secured app in google's list of those. I've been using Thunderbird for a long time now, and just set it up on a new laptop and I added my gmail without any problem, just put the credentials and next the prompt from google to allow thunderbird to access it, that's all. Re: Jitsi and NVDA?
Sylvie Duchateau
Hello Cordelia and all,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I use Jitsi regularly. I cannot say that it is as accessible as zoom but it is usable. The advantage of Jitsi is that it is open source and that it is installed on many different servers. In theory, anybody could modify the code to make it more accessible. In practice, you can use it but it is not so easy as it is for a sighted person. I tried to install the app but I was not able to use it. It is better to use it with Chrome, it works also relatively well with Firefox. I did not test with Edge. It is really easy to create a meeting room. You can either let the tool generate a meeting url or you type a name in the input field. When you are logged into your room, you have to allow camera and microphone. It works well in Chrome. In Firefox, you hear the message asking you to allow microphone and camera. It tells you the the shortcut to press if you want to accept. If you missed the shortcut, you just have to press F6 twice and you will find the dialog where you can allow camera and microphone and check "do not ask me again", then press ok. What is not so accessible, is that you have buttons to mute yourself, disable camera, open settings, open chat, raise your hand, see more functionalities , but NVDA does not inform you if the button is on or off. It just tells you : "enable/disable microphone", "enable/disable camera", "raise hand"... So you don't know if you microphone is on or off. In some instances of JItsi, when your microphone is off and you try to speak, you hear a voice message telling you that you have to enable your microphone. When someone joins or leaves your meeting, yo only hear "alert", but you don't know who joined or who left. If you want to have your meeting secured, you can add a password. It is in the menu "more information", which opens a dialog where you can copy the invitation and its URL. You can choose a password, but this dialog disappears after a few seconds and it's difficult to get or change the info. On the meet.jit.si page, you can record your meeting, that needs to be connected to your dropbox, but I never succeeded in getting the recording. Screen sharing works well. If you want to share your audio, you have to select that you want to share your whole screen, then check the box to share your audio. As a conclusion, you can use it but some functions are not so easy to use because of accessibility issues. Note that on the beta page, https://beta.meet.jit.si/, someone contributed in adding accessible buttons, so you had an idea if the button was enabled or disabled, but this improvement disappeared. In my opinion, the worst thing is that you don't know if your microphone is on or off. There are no shortcuts to enable or disable your devices. I hope this can help, otherwise do not hesitate to ask. Best Sylvie

Re: thunderbird gmail notice
I had less secure settings on, you are right about that. I simply was not aware that thunderbird was one of those. My assumption was simply that google was thinking that the only secure apps were google apps. It appears that google is roling out the change everywhere. At least now we know any modern app using the right protocols will be fine. And at least most newer phones and anything using google service will support it. Thunderbird may have had the option but I have never been prompted and have never bothered looking for something that up till now has continued to run floorlessly. Up to now a secure app has always been windows mail, apple mail, and google's own apps like chrome. I simply assumed that google was trying to cosy up to its own tech and never though that maybe it wasn't and that apps would support these standards. If I had known, I would have switched ages ago. For one thing, I am getting mail coming in at least a minute faster. Google seems to be updating this on its enterprise gsweet blog but not to general users and I had to look for the information. Its new news to me but then as I said I havn't needed to change my login methods since 1995. The last time I did this was for ssl in 2005 or there abouts and that was it. Its nice to see completely secured things going on. But for the users on outlook 2016 and earlier unless I load 2factor on everything meaning every app and task I have has a spaciffic password for it, I will have to upgrade outlook and office to 2019 so it works. Potentially anyway. Outlook still works for now but I have no idea about how google's roleout is supposed to work for consumers so there could be a failier any time now.

Type the word dot in that edit box, and what will be left in the symbols list below it are only things where the word dot is used in the replacement text for the symbol. You then need to go through the symbols list to change the replacement text for the ones you want. Re: wxpython
Hi, Based on source codes of add-ons I have, many use sizers for this purpose- not many specify coordinates except for cases it is justified such as a list view. It is perfectly possible for people to use coordinates to position controls, but it runs into multiple issues, chiefly label length, font, translations, high DPI and many variations. Cheers, Joseph

Two values are written to pos. The values are tuple. But this approach is not a good approach for a blind programmer. Because items on the screen will overlap frequently.

I think its feasible for a blind person to precisely position controls in a window. On the other hand, if WX developers think using x/y coordinates to position a control is a bad UI design practice, then it applies to everyone, not just blind people.

Specifying locations of WX controls is completely feasible for a blind person. After all, this is why I am writing a getting’s started guide for Developer toolkit. It solves this very problem.

I believe you will have the best luck with NVDA and Chrome. You will get into the chrome browser menus with the alt key followed by the down arrow. If a google doc or sheet is open, the google doc or sheet menus are available by hitting alt + f, or alt + other first tab item letters.
