Hi gang,
First things first, I hope everyone is doing well and keeping
safe. This is going to be a fairly lengthy post, but I think it
will help.
Andrew: Is there only one version of office installed on your
machine. Sometimes this problem occurs if there are two
concurrent installations running with one being active and the
other though inactive is still installed. If this is the case,
try uninstalling both, then re-installing your default version.
If that doesn't solve things you may have to Change the
permissions on the registry key. I would suggest that if you
aren't comfortable with registry editing, make sure that you
have assistance with running this step in case something goes
wrong.
1. Open registry by typing regedit in run. 'F1291BD604B8604......'
I hope this helps.

Joseph is it outlook 2019 and beyond that the auto complete works properly with NVDA?

Sent: Saturday, May 2, 2020 3:03 PM To: nvda@nvda.groups.io Subject: Re: [nvda] remaining NVDA questions
Hi, For table row/column, you need to turn off “Cell coordinates" Checkbox from NVDA’s document formatting list (NVDA menu/Preferences/Settings/document formatting/tables group; CAUTION: do not turn off cell coordinates while using Excel, as it will prevent NVDA from announcing which cell you are working on). As for auto-complete in Outlook, it is already working, although it doesn’t work properly if one is using an older build of Office 365 or earlier version of Office. Cheers, Joseph
From: nvda@nvda.groups.io <nvda@nvda.groups.io> On Behalf Of Dennis L
? Is there any way to turn off column 4 row 3 etc. when on a webpage? Is there anyway when using outlook to have the auto complete suggestions automatically spoken?

Re: urgent help please with Outlook

It sounds as though you are getting the first message because of the second. Outlook can't fulfil the messaging requirement because it freezes. I don't use Outlook but that is mhy guess. I don't know why it is freezing. Is there a specific reason why you want to use Outlook? There are other very good alternatives.

To solve your Outlook problem may require the kind of help you might get from a Bleeping Computer forum. Logs may tell technically knowledgeable users why Outlook is crashing and they may be able to suggest solutions. As for something you might try, you might try uninstalling and reinstalling the program. You might try repairing it if there is a repair option. those with knowledge of the program may be able to discuss the matter further. Gene

That’s correct, however, typically when you turn off Focus mode, you’re able to see the menu and options above the doc edit window. However, when I turn off Focus mode, the Doc window is the only thing I see.

I actually think Google designed it this way. Browse mode should be turned off when using Google docs. Use it in focus/forms mode. Give them accessibility feedback at the below link. https://www.google.com/accessibility/get-in-touch/ The above link has email options, chat, etc.

Re: Outlook and attachments

I read mail as plain text. In Windows Live Mail, I can open your message and see an embedded attachment with an htm extension. So although the list doesn't allow attachments in general, embedded attachments are allowed. If they weren't, a lot of messages people want to read as HTML would only be available as plain text.

My recollection, from the very little comparison I've done is that Thunderbird doesn't let you see such embedded attachments if you read mail as plain text and I don't know how many programs let you see them. Gene

Re: Outlook and attachments
Gene
I suspect it may in a way. If you receive an e-mail that you are reading as plain text, there is an embedded attachment of the message as an HTML document and maybe Outlook is showing these attachments in a way that your screen-reader announces them. I'm not sure if embedded attachments are sent with mail at other times but I doubt you can stop this behavior as it is probabhbly either a fault in Outlook or NVDA, I don't know which.

Announcement: changes coming to Joseph Lee's add-on documentation
Hello everyone,
The following announcement is applicable if you use any of my add-ons (Add-on Updater, Control Usage Assistant, Enhanced Touch Gestures, GoldWave, Object Location Tones, Resource Monitor, StationPlaylist, Windows 10 App Essentials):
A series of changes were introduced to one of the tools used for packaging NVDA add-ons. In particular, these changes will have an impact on all community add-ons, including mine, as it changes aspects of add-on documentation (readme pages):
These changes will be rolling out in stages, beginning with development snapshots for StationPlaylist and Windows 10 App Essentials scheduled for this weekend, ending with version 20.06 of all my add-ons (for stable channel subscribers), scheduled for late May or early June.
Cheers, Joseph

Hello Cordelia and all, I use Jitsi regularly. I cannot say that it is as accessible as zoom but it is usable. The advantage of Jitsi is that it is open source and that it is installed on many different servers. In theory, anybody could modify the code to make it more accessible. In practice, you can use it but it is not so easy as it is for a sighted person. I tried to install the app but I was not able to use it. It is better to use it with Chrome, it works also relatively well with Firefox. I did not test with Edge. It is really easy to create a meeting room. You can either let the tool generate a meeting url or you type a name in the input field. When you are logged into your room, you have to allow camera and microphone. It works well in Chrome. In Firefox, you hear the message asking you to allow microphone and camera. It tells you the the shortcut to press if you want to accept. If you missed the shortcut, you just have to press F6 twice and you will find the dialog where you can allow camera and microphone and check "do not ask me again", then press ok. What is not so accessible, is that you have buttons to mute yourself, disable camera, open settings, open chat, raise your hand, see more functionalities , but NVDA does not inform you if the button is on or off. It just tells you : "enable/disable microphone", "enable/disable camera", "raise hand"... So you don't know if you microphone is on or off. In some instances of JItsi, when your microphone is off and you try to speak, you hear a voice message telling you that you have to enable your microphone. When someone joins or leaves your meeting, yo only hear "alert", but you don't know who joined or who left. If you want to have your meeting secured, you can add a password. It is in the menu "more information", which opens a dialog where you can copy the invitation and its URL. You can choose a password, but this dialog disappears after a few seconds and it's difficult to get or change the info. On the meet.jit.si page, you can record your meeting, that needs to be connected to your dropbox, but I never succeeded in getting the recording. Screen sharing works well. If you want to share your audio, you have to select that you want to share your whole screen, then check the box to share your audio. As a conclusion, you can use it but some functions are not so easy to use because of accessibility issues. Note that on the beta page, https://beta.meet.jit.si/, someone contributed in adding accessible buttons, so you had an idea if the button was enabled or disabled, but this improvement disappeared. In my opinion, the worst thing is that you don't know if your microphone is on or off. There are no shortcuts to enable or disable your devices. I hope this can help, otherwise do not hesitate to ask. Best Sylvie Le 04/05/2020 à 17:51, Cordelia Scharpf a écrit : Hi,

Re: Outlook and attachments
A very great number of messages, as noted by Shaun, have attachments that most of us don't think of as such. VCF files are used by many as signatures (or part of them) and, when that is the case, they are considered attachments. As far as I know, there is no way to make any e-mail client I'm aware of consider them "not an attachment."

I had hoped this topic had died a natural death, but apparently not. It is not on topic for the NVDA Group. Mr. Spivey gave an excellent resource, https://www.freelists.org/list/program-l, where this sort of programming question could be asked. It does not meet the criteria stated in the welcome message, monthly reminder, or the group description: "The central purpose of this group is discussing how to use NVDA, either configuring NVDA's settings or familiarizing oneself with its modes and commands. Discussions about which programs are accessible using NVDA, NVDA add-ons, NVDA tutorials and documentation, and configuring synthesizers or Braille displays for use with NVDA are also permitted."
