any update for add ons
ken lawrence
Hi NVDA my NVDA just now updated. I have the add on for skype and the add on for teamtalk client. These are incompatible with NVDA’s most recent versions but not sure if I want to uninstall them because I want to make sure they don’t have updates coming. Any timetable on when or if these addons will have versions that work with the newer NVDA? I use both quite a bit and the thing I notice about skype is after I sign in to our radio station or when I sign back into my account after a show I’m locked into focus mode even when I tab to exit the form and I have to go to an email or a website to snap it off. Insirt and space bar doesn’t work. I could use a little better information on teamtalk too. Will these add ons eventually work again with newer versions?

windows program for creating a recovery drive is not fully accessible
Dan Beaver
I decided I needed to create a fresh recovery drive. I discovered that NVDA speaks the buttons but nothing else. Has anyone else seen this? Is this an NVDA issue or a windows system issue?
Thanks.

Re: NVDA, BrightSpace, Medical Transcription platforms

It is 99% accessible yes. Better on a laptop than a phone. You can get NVDA to read out colours in word or you can get the marker to mark your work differently for example enclosing comments in * so you can find them easy. Luke

NVDA, BrightSpace, Medical Transcription platforms
Janet Brandly
Hello all,
I’m not really sure where to post this message, so if it would be more appropriate for the Chat list please let me know
I am considering taking a medical transcription refresher course from a local career college. At least 2 blind/visually impaired students have gone through the program successfully and found gainful employment. The 1 totally blind student used JAWS. For financial and philosophical reasons, I really do not want to use JAWS. However, I’d like to know whether between NVDA and Narrator, I could accomplish the same tasks. Legally, a program or employer cannot dictate which screen reader I use, just as they cannot dictate which brand of glasses a person chooses to wear. However, I anticipate lot of pushback so I’d like to get as much information/ammunition as possible.
The education software the transcription course uses is called Brightspace. I did some preliminary research. The website talks about the software being accessible to screen readers and talks about their ongoing commitment to accessibility. Has anyone used this software with NVDA? If so, what were your experiences?
One area of difficulty the blind student found was differentiating different colors in Word documents. Apparently, JAWS cannot do this. assignments and reports are done in Word and corrections added in a different color. Can NVDA distinguish print in different colors in Word documents? If not, is there a workaround? The student using JAWS said that she was able to come up with one.
All course texts and reference materials are provided in PDFs. How does NVDA do with large PDFs? I believe they contain links etc. for navigation.
Are there any controls JAWS recognizes that NVDA does not? Most research is done on the Internet. Are there types of controls and websites that JAWS handles but NVDA does not?
The transcription platforms mentioned by the student I spoke with provide specific training for JAWS users. I assume that, although the keyboard commands would be different, this information would be transferable to NVDA. Accessible software should be usable by all screen readers, not just JAWS.
I am not familiar with Narrator but am prepared to learn it if I could do the work with it alongside NVDA. Does anyone have thoughts as to how this might work?
I understand that one can obtain a free license for JAWS, at least for now. However, the cost of maintaining this software is prohibitive. I have to pay my own costs. I will do this if absolutely necessary but really prefer not to. I would be willing to pay somebody to assist me with NVDA and/or Narrator, as long as the outcome would be worthwhile.
Thank you for answering all my questions, I really appreciate your time.
Sincerely,
Janet Brandly
I have not used Narrator, but if using it alongside

Re: new suggestion
Hi.
Is it something like this? When browsing the web, and possibly in Word, the user would want NVDA to focus on the text that would appear after a bullet or number in a list, rather than on the bullet or number itself. For example, on the words "Home" and "Edit" in the list below: 1. Home 2. Edit I'd argue that this is a feature request and not a fix, as NVDA is behaving as it should, for consistency. However, I believe that this request stems from some links being after bulleted and numbered lists. Personally, I don't mind the current behaviour. As stated before, it's consistent, and if I see a link in a bulleted or numbered list that I'd wanna click, I automatically just press the K key followed by Enter to activate it. This also works if the link is in the middle of the line.

Re: new suggestion

Is the main reason you want this, because of links that appear in lists, and you want to jump right to the start of the link when you enter the list item?

You have the option of using app-specific passwords (but that's only if you have 2-step verification on - and I never do as I consider it gross overkill on my Google account). Even utilities to do things like mass deletion of Google Calendar events or to sync Google Contacts and Calendar to Outlook are OAUTH2 compliant. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. Re: NVDA 2020.1 released
Quentin, the main NV Access RSS feed has been imported to the group, as well as the community add ons RSS feed. So, posting through the blog will eventually make it to the list. I believe Groups checks for integration updates every hour? But anyway, this means less work for you. You just post the blog post or any NV Access update and it gets beamed to this list.

It took a few tries for my update to come through. If anybody else is having issues, I'd actually just restart the computer. :) I should do that more often, honestly. But yeah, this is a good update! I'm excited to see what NV Access can do with Python 3.
