Re: reading what seems to be a blank email

Betsy,

I'm not an NVDA developer but would be curious to take a look at one of those messages if the content of same is not private.  Feel free to send me one if you'd like me to do so.  The Reply to Sender link at the end of this message will fire up a blank message in your e-mail or webmail.  Just snag the To address and use it for forwarding if you are so inclined.

reading what seems to be a blank email

Betsy Grenevitch

I was not sure if this should come on NvDA or thunderbird but am trying on the NVDA list since I am using NVDA as the screen reader while using Thunderbird as the mail program. For some reason in the past couple of weeks a group from which I receive emails from has changed their format. It acts like it is an image yet I can read it on the Polaris Mini notetaker. Is there a command I can use to try to get NVDa to read the email to me? I am willing to forward the email to one of the programmers for NVDA if you would like to look at it to see what is happening. I am using the latest version of NVDA and Windows 10 on my laptop.

I would much prefer to be able to read the emails on the laptop than the notetaker because I would like to access the link in the email from the laptop.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance that I can receive.

Thank you so very much.

That really depends on whether they're in features you actually use.   Office has been very accessible for a very long time, and 365 has all of its base DNA in Office 2016 and 2019.

I seldom hear complaints of lack of accessibility in either one of those, and both are still being actively supported.  Given how inexpensively Office 2016 and 2019 can be obtained on the grey market, if I were looking to economize going "the old fashioned way" would be what doing.

The accessibility improvements more than justify this. Office 365 is considerably more accessible over time, and has features that never make it into the three year releases of office.

I know I won’t  move from 2016 to 2019 or 365,  but I will continue to get updates to 2016.

2016 is not dead,  it is still alive in the software world.

Yes, you wont get 2019 or 365 automatically, you will stay with 2016. With a 365 subscription you always get the newest release of Office.

Hello

Has anyone here ever hosted a Zoom meeting with NVDA? If so, can you speak to

the process, the accessibility, any particular quirks that apply to using NVDA

with the presenter interface (assuming there is some kind of presenter

interface), and so on?

I don't want this to go off topic to other screen readers on list (feel free to

respond privately with any more general Zoom presenter accessibility comments),

but I may be asked to host some upcoming Zoom meetings, for which I will be

using NVDA.

Thanks

nvda with foxit reader

lutztiger.luigi@...

Hi all,

I’m on the lookout for a fine pdf reader which isn’t adobe. I’ve come across foxit reader who advertise themselves being quite accessible on both JAWS and nvda.

I’ve tried to read 2 pdf files with it, but all spaces seem to have been removed. Neither nvda nor jaws seems to be able to detect the spaces in the text. The same pdfs work just fine on adobe or Microsoft edge, so I’m confident the file itself is not the issue.

Did anyone have the same problem so far and has any solutions? I’ve used the latest release of both nvda and foxit reader.

Best,

almaric

Google Docs is very accessible with NVDA. I use Docs a lot, to produce well formatted documents. If you use Google’s commands to navigate, you will have a great experience. Let me know what you need help with.

Enhanced Touch Gestures 20.06, last version to support NVDA 2019.3 #addonrelease

Hi all,

Enhanced Touch Gestures 20.06 will be released tonight (Sunday morning in America). This release includes internal changes and makes the add-on compatible with NVDA 2020.1 and future versions. As always, you can grab it from community add-ons website or via Add-on Updater.

IMPORTANT: 20.06 will be the last version to support NVDA 2019.3. This is so that the add-on can be simplified. Specifically, NVDA 2020.1 includes a touch command to perform right mouse click (one finger tap and hold), which was a part of this add-on for years. Starting with a release scheduled for fall (spring in southern hemisphere), NVDA 2020.1 or later will be required so that this touch command can be removed from the add-on in favor of what NVDA provides.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hello.

In NVDA 2019.3, NVDA add the automatic detection for the braille displays of Freedom Scientific. When you conect your Focus, NVDA go to use this braille display. But if NVDA didn't detect the conection, you can select the Braille display and the conection methot in the category braille, dialog options of NVDA.
