Hi,

Try this one.  It's got a free and a professional version, is accessible with screen readers, and should do the job.

I then tried docx.

Every document I had which was quite old my word 95 files for example, were blank.

This converter aint for me.

I have jarte which I payed for, which does everything I want.

Sadly I may have to get libre office or ms office or something so I can read the files, I have a system with libre office and the files are read fine enough, and I hardly need them, but if there is another document converter even ifits a low cost office thing I'll try that.

This one just is not serving my purpose.

I also had a little trouble accessing it and in fact the rest of the polenter apps were not especially usable.

I wander if there are document converters in the ms store.

I to would strongly suggest Abby. I have been using it for years and it works very well. It is interesting that other OCR products license the Abby engine to do the OCR operation. Most of those products do not make a point of telling that to their customers.

Hi Sociohack

You might of already come across the website from off this list. it is a blindness related website with tips and tricks for a newly blinded person etc plus ways sighted people can help us etc.

it also has written and audio tutorials for the nvda screen reader but only for a desk top user

any of the nvda pages will link to other nvda pages it is sorta like a website inside of another but comes together on the index page.

You will see what I mean when you visit it.

the page for the earlier add ons is nvda add ons but will need to change it tonight to see if you can automatically download them instead of jumping those hoops from before as mentioned in the last email.

the link to the website is http://www.accessibilitycentral.net

I usually try to keep it updated as I come across stuff or write up tutorials etc but will show what has been updated on the main page under a section called recently updated.

Plus I will let the list know if there are nvda related stuff as in tutorials.

Re: A few questions

Quentin Christensen

Are you saying that if you are using OneCore as your default synthesizer, if you create a profile for say, Word, which uses eSpeak, if you are using Word, and open an NVDA dialog (eg NVDA+control+g to change settings), NVDA then changes to OneCore while working in the NVDA dialog?  If so, that is expected - the profile is triggered by the current program - in this case, the program has changed to NVDA so it uses the configuration profile set for NVDA itself (the normal profile unless you've set an NVDA specific profile).  Similarly, in the same situation, if you alt+tab from one Word window to another word window (holding alt down long enough to show the alt+tab window) - the voice will revert to OneCore while reading that alt+tab dialog, as that is a different program, even though conceptually you are moving from one Microsoft Word window to another.

On Tue, May 19, 2020 at 10:21 PM Akshaya Choudhary <acsociopath@...> wrote:

Hello Quentin,

NVDA automatically switches between synthesizers when I have more than one configuration profiles.  For example, If I have set One Core as my synthesizer, then NVDA will automatically switch to Espeak when I interact with my Windows and related applications. It goes back to One Core when I’m interacting with NVDA settings itself, reading a document or while browsing the internet.   The situation is similar with any synthesizer set as default. And, I can observe this same issue on NVDA 19.2.1 installed on my system and NVDA 20.1 which I sometimes use as a portable version. I reported the issue once on this list and was told by someone that the code for configuration profile is buggy. It would be great if you could help in any way.

I have searched rather diligently, with no success, for an NVDA function that I saw, a couple of years back, was under development/consideration for either an NVDA feature or an add-on.

I do not see it anywhere in the NVDA manual or the tutorial, and I see no add-on with a title or description of this functionality.

I hope I’m just inept as a searcher.

I’m looking for the ability to recognize capital letters, not just when reading by letter—I know that functionality is present—but rather, the ability to recognize when words are capitalized (or in solid capital letters) when reading by line, by paragraph, or in say-all.

Presently, I have to switch to JAWS for this functionality, and it is so absolutely crucial that it must be, at least, under development in some add-on.  In fact, this functionality is the only reason I keep JAWS installed.

Surely others find the absence of this functionality a serious matter.  Perhaps we could pool our resources to pay a clever add-on developer to create it?

Thanks!

Well then, Uninstall Express Scribe. Then reinstall it as though you are going to use it as a free trial. Try it and see if it is user friendly with NVDA. If it is. Then purchase it.  I don’t know how long the free trial would be. I’d make use of it during the free time. If you find it’s user friendly. Then buy it.
