Re: Ghost Windows When Copying and Pasting or cutting and pasting in Windows Explorer In Windows 10

Ron,

There's nothing odd about this if the folder being copied contains a large number of files, or if a file being copied is huge.  It's a status window telling you how far along the copy or paste is in process.

I don't know if that status can be turned off or not, as I like getting it when an extensive transfer is in progress.

Ghost Windows When Copying and Pasting or cutting and pasting in Windows Explorer In Windows 10

Ron Canazzi

Hi Group,\

This is happening in Windows 10, but I think I recall it going way back to XP.  When you do the following:
1.  Open Windows Explorer
2.  Highlight a file or folder.
3.  Use control + X or Control + C to cut or copy the file or folder.
4.  Move to another folder or drive and press control + V to paste the file or folder to a new location.
5.  The result is that more often times than not, you get a ghost window that has a title of something like 87%, 94% or 100%.
6.  This ghost window goes away when you alt + tab away and then back to the new location.

Does anyone else experience this and is there a remedy?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Issue with NVDA and links

Also, the problem may be eliminated by moving by link using the letter k instead of by tabbing.  Sometimes, for technical reasons I don't know a lot about, moving by tab doesn't cause browse mode and the underlying web page to be properly lined up.  In cases where I don't move correctly by link when I tab on a page, I do when I use k.

I am not quite sure what you are describing here. Are you saying that if a user is on any link on any web page, and they hit tab and then enter, the Browser is opening the previous link? Does this happen with just one page. Please let us also know what the browser this is happening in, and if possible the version number.

I’m wondering, is this a new NVDA user that had been using JAWS before encountering this?

Hi all, need your help on the following issue I am facing with NVDA:

I am experiencing situations where a user will navigate to a link on a page with NVDA, but when activating the link, it actually activates the link that the user had previously tabbed from. When used with just the keyboard (no NVDA), tab to the link and press enter, it works as expected but works strangely with keyboard + NVDA.

Re: about nvda add-on bringing text analiser feature in JAWS

Actually, the failure to announce capitalization is more serious than might initially appear.  At first, I thought it was just a problem with one computer, but as I worked with others, over time, I have found that it is a common problem that pressing the shift correctly, then typing a letter may not result in a capital letter being typed.  I often see corrections where my spell checker flags a word for not being capitalized I am sure I used the shift for.

I am unaware of an add-on like text analyzer; however, the font change, attribute change, indent, color change can all be picked up (along with more), by pressing CapsLock, control, and D.  I created a configuration profile with all that turned on.  I call it proof reading.
With Word's grammar check turned on, I get pretty much what text analyzer offers, except the open quote with no closed quote function.  That, however, drove me nuts because, if one read line-by-line, JAWS thought I had failed to close the quote when the close quote was just on the next line.
NVDA cannot announce capitalization when reading by line, and that is a serious shortcoming, and the reason I have to keep JAWS.

Windows 10 App Essentials 20.06.1 #addonrelease

Hi all,

Windows 10 App Essentials 20.06.1 is now available. This version is really meant for people using Windows 10 Version 2004 or later, as it resolves an issue where NVDA would not announce text responses from Cortana in recent Cortana app releases (2.2005.15).

Cheers,

Joseph

When editing a document using speech only, inconsistencies such as
unmatched parentheses, unintentional format changes, extra whitespace,
and stray or unspaced punctuation can often be missed. The Text
Analyzer feature is a tool in jaws that notifies you of these
inconsistencies in your document by using a spoken message or WAV
file. You can press ALT+WINDOWS KEY+I at any time to have Text
Analyzer move the cursor to the next inconsistency and
shift+ALT+WINDOWS KEY+I to previous inconsistancy. I’m at a loss for
words to express how important it is to polish your document.

Re: A few questions

Akshaya Choudhary

If you DON'T specify a particular setting in a configuration profile, and then change it in the normal profile, it will carry over, but if you then change it in the profile, it will take the profile setting.  To demonstrate:

This is very bothersome. This basically means whenever you change anything in the normal profile, it will carry over to the other profiles you have created.

The steps you laid out work perfectly well, Quentin. Just one correction, in step 9 the punctuation level will return to “none”, not to “all”.

This didn’t help with what I was trying to do though. I wanted to change the individual symbol level of some punctuations, but, as it turns out, individual symbol levels of punctuations are global settings. Andre Fisher is correct in this regard.  For example, if you change the symbol level of left and right quotes in a new profile, it will carry over to the normal profile as well.

On the bright side,  I realise, if you send the punctuations to the synthesizer in the punctuation and symbols dialogue box, and you have audio rules set for these punctuations in the Phonetic Punctuation add-on,  then you will hear the set audio rule. So, effectively you can replace punctuations with audio sounds by sending the punctuations to the synthesizer without fiddling with the overall symbol level setting. This is what I was trying to do all this while. Got to learn a lot of things and finally managed to achieve the intended effect. Thank you guys!

I downloaded it but found 2 issues.

1. the program is not fully accessible.

Thats fine, I have only 2 large folders of files I want to convert.

2. on converting my word 95 files to 2003-word97 files, the files
themselves were corrupted and jarte crashed.

I then tried docx.

Every document I had which was quite old my word 95 files for
example, were blank.

This converter aint for me.

I have jarte which I payed for, which does everything I want.

Sadly I may have to get libre office or ms office or something so I
can read the files, I have a system with libre office and the files
are read fine enough, and I hardly need them, but if there is another
document converter even ifits a low cost office thing I'll try that.

This one just is not serving my purpose.

I also had a little trouble accessing it and in fact the rest of the
polenter apps were not especially usable.

I wander if there are document converters in the ms store.

Re: Excel NVDA and Large Text Cells

Which Synthesizer are you using?  I just typed 150 words in a cell with eSpeak NG and it read fine all the way, and read back.  Then I did the same thing with OneCore and it worked.  I just realised I used NVDA 2020.1 - is there a reason you are using 2019.3.1 and now 2020.1?  Also are you using any add-ons?  If you restart Excel with add-ans disabled, does the spreadsheet work any better?

Re Louis suggestion - you shouldn't need to turn off allow editing in Cells - That was fixed over a year ago, but do let us know if it makes a difference.  Ah here it is - 2019.1 had the fix for the editing in cells bug: https://www.nvaccess.org/post/in-process-29th-march/

Aravind, Please don't hijack threads - I know this is about Excel but it is a completely different question.  Yours is a perfectly valid question, just would be better in its own thread (to be honest, off the top of my head I'm not sure - I'll have to have a look at it later).
