Exactly. So for now I will just say that you are speaking false words, again. You seem to be the only one having this issue as I have not seen it on any of the lists i'm on. So go report it and have done with it. Good luck in what might be a fruitless journey.

The problem, Shaun, is that you almost never include anything, period, that backs up your assertions that are incorrect.  This has been the case on the NVDA group, too.

Links would have been more than adequate, but were virtually never provided, either proactively or when requested.  And those who share reliably accurate information either include citations as a matter of their regular posting practice or can produce same when asked.

locked win10 2004 and file explorer options issue

Hi.

Just noticed another little issue with options in folder options/view.

In particularly hidden files and protected os files.

Sometimes when you tick an option to show or hide they may or may not take and have to be done again.

Sometimes they will not reset at all and you have to restore folders.

Its not a showstopper its just annoying, has anyone else noticed this.

I have noticed this on both my computers here.

Now I don't need to really have these options off at least for the c drive except after an install when I want to clear extra junk folders.

It but for my resilios I need to access a folder to clean out its junk files

Though as I sit here I find since I know the folder name I can actually access it without doing so.

Still its another small glitch with this update.

I have also put up a blog post at http://technology.jaredrimer.net on the windows 10 page with links to various drivers I got from codecguide.com.

Due to losing posting on one list I won't post any more information I can't verify or in fact breaks the verification rules.

And since while I can do links I refuse to include entire article pages to justify my posts I'll leave it to others to do.

Thank you. I have enabled it. I didn't get any option to configure language. How to do it?

Re: speech history

Something quirky is going on with this add-on.  I have NVDA 2020.1 and a few minutes ago downloaded the Speech History Add-On (speechHistory-2020.2) from the official repository using Add-On Manager.

When I tried to install it, I got an install failed message, yet when I went back to Add-On Manager it's showing in the list.

I exited NVDA and promptly restarted it again, and at the moment it's hanging in Add-On Manager in the Choose Add-On Package Dialog, and has been in that state for approximately 5 minutes.  I'm now killing NVDA with Task Manager.

It seems to have restarted again fully functioning, but I'm not yet sure that Speech History is fully functioning.  It does show as installed and enabled in the Add-Ons Manager, even after the failure to install message.

Hi,

in ad-on manager I see Speech History is installed and will be enabled after NVDA restart. But after NVDA restart is it not enabled. I have NVDA 2020.1. Something is wrong...

NVDA on a Lenovo Miix 630 - no modifier key at all

Chris Mullins

Hi Isak

The links below indicate that there were some concerns about 3rd party software running on ARM devices back in 2017 but I think many have been resolved since.  The fact that the Bluetooth keyboard worked OK points to the issue being with the keyboard on the device itself and as another list member said, I think you need to take up the issue with Lenovo, as the device is inaccessible to you.  There maybe BIOS settings that can be configured so Lenovo Customer services would be a first port of call.

A little update.
I just tested with a Bluetooth keyboard, and the issue was not present.
It's not a solution for me to use a separate Bluetooth keyboard, since the keyboard that comes with it is quite good and works as a case for the tablet, but maybe it can help track down the problem.
Just to make the thing a bit more clear, the keyboard that comes with the device is attached to the tablet part using some own docking system; I've not seen such a system before. In the Device Manager it shows just up as a HID Keyboard Device. I have tried updating the drivers through the Device Manager with no luck.

Sticky keys might work for you (hit shift five times to get started).
Not ideal, but then you could hit insert or capslock (assuming they work with sticky keys), then the NVDA key in question.

You should look at the CMOS for keyboard options, as someone suggested, but it sounds like that laptop has very limited multi-press keyboard support.
Those are not "normal" modifier keys (like alt, shift, and control are), and it seems as if the keyboard is not capable of providing scancodes for modifiers that it doesn't know are modifiers.
That suggests more "intelligence" on the part of the keyboard controller than is usually there in a simple keyboard.
You may want to contact the manufacturer, and make an ADA based complaint that they are producing an inaccessible laptop. Unlikely you'll get anywhere, but this may be solvable in firmware.

Hello all,
I just bought a Lenovo Miix 630 laptop: a little, neat thing to travel with.
My problem is that the NVDA modifier keys do not work. The computer seems to have both Caps Lock and Insert available, because when I finally was able to
access the keyboard help using the Miix computer remotely from another computer, it says "NVDA" when I press Caps Lock or Insert, and also Caps Lock comes
on when I press it twice, so it seems that everything should work. But still, if I press, say Caps Lock + B, it acts like I would have pressed only the
letter B.
This is not only an NVDA issue; exactly the same thing happens with Narrator. I cannot use any narrator commands that involve the Caps Lock key.
Another pain is that I haven't been able to reverse the function keys, so I have to press. for example, Alt+FN+F4 to get out from an application.
I do not know whether these two problems are somehow related.
Especially the fact that I don't have a NVDA modifier key makes the thing almost unusable.
Has anyone seen something like this and maybe been able to solve the problem? _._,_._,_

Re: How to make backup nvda?

Gene

I'm not saying you can't save settings aside from making a portable version, but I would think a portable version would be the easiest way.  Andd any add-ons are also kept in the portable version and will be available if you install NVDA using the portable version.  Your speech dictionaries will also be preserved.

As far as I know the portable version and installing from the portable version preserves everything or just about everything.

You can save the portable version anywhere, on a thumb drive, an external hard drive, anywhere, even someplace like Dropbox.  I make a new portable version now and then as a backup for anything I've changed over time.

Well, I also thought about making the whole portable version of NVDA, I meant that I would choose a folder where my user settings would be copied without creating the whole portable version of NVDA.

Because I don't want to have a problem installing NVDA

Re: How to make backup nvda?

hello.
you can copy your nvda profile from app data, (i did not test this myself),
and you can create portable copy from your installed version of nvda,
and after your work,
open nvda.exe in your portable version,
then install nvda on your system using tools select install nvda
and be sure to check, copy portable configurations.

I also have add-ons installed there, and if I installed NVDA on my computer,
I would import my saved settings with add-ons as well.
