OK

It tends to happen pretty reliably.  I’ll first turn off add-ins.  Then, I’ll send you a typical document-without privileged information.

[ CAUTION - EXTERNAL SENDER ]

I just tried this and it seems to work fine for me.  I was reading the Microsoft Word with NVDA material which has headings with styles with numbering.  I'm using Office 365 (64-bit) Version: 16.0.12730.20256  and NVDA 2020.1

If you restart NVDA with add-ons disabled does it still do it?  If you've got a document you can reliably repeat with, would it be possible to confidentially send me a copy of it offlist please?

Kind regards,

Quentin.

I’ve tried restarting NVDA but it doesn’t fix it. I’ve also tried NVDA key + F5 to refresh the virtual buffer but still nothing. Can anyone think of any other troubleshooting steps I can try? Re: Remotely controlling a computer with zoom while using NVDA

I know in other remote desktop situations, the remote machine needs to be running the screen reader in order for it to work, and the person needs to make sure they're sharing with audio. Might be interesting to have your friend load Windows Narrator then share their screen with you with PC audio enabled. I wonder if it would respond to your keyboard gestures.

I know there is a share video and a share audio and I believe it may allow someone to see and perhaps do things with a remote computer, I'm not sure.
But my impression is that this is purely visual. Once when a sighted friend and I were expeerimenting with share audio, he told me he could see my Winamp interface. He didn't try to do anything with it and when he shared something, though I didn't specifically try, I doubt I could see his interface in a way accessible to a screen-reader.

Hello all,
Hope all are doing well!

I have some question regarding zoom and NVDA: I am interested to remotely
control a computer with zoom, but I have a problem doing so because to do
this, I need to click with the mouse in the shared screen area of the person
I want to control his / her machine. So I am wondering if there is a way to
do this with NVDA accessibly? Has anyone done this successfully?

Any tip will be appreciated!
thank you!

The competition has closed so I can’t see that particular code now, but from an accessibility perspective the coding is pretty horrid throughout the website.

For example, pages are entirely empty if JavaScript is turned off or fails to load for any reason. Although almost everyone has JavaScript enabled, this is still disgusting from a software engineering perspective. Have these people not heard of progressive enhancement? Or even graceful degradation? There are massive swathes of JavaScript on a website that needs virtually none at all. Heaven knows what it’s all doing.

They haven’t even applied any semantic structure, and they have done stupid things like adding HTML attributes to change links into buttons. They should throw it away and start again.

Hello all ,

·        Have you ever wondered or wanted to explore accessible graphs? We developed a dedicated system for making graphs accessible for screen reader and braille display users. The system enables users to experience accessible graphs in a simple layout using speech, sound and braille.

·        The Sensory Interface system is an Israeli startup, funded by the Israeli Innovation Authority, and run by the Public Knowledge Workshop (a nonprofit).

·        We invite you to try accessible graphs for stocks such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft and more in the link below.

·        It’s free and only takes a few minutes to try out. Just pick a stock from the list and click the link to open the accessible graph page. On the graph page, choose your preferred TTS voice, move to the graph area, and navigate the graph using the right and left arrow keys. Press the space key anytime to get more info such as current position in the graph, as well as minimum, maximum and average values.

Accessibility of PCDI Canada/Ashworth College courses

Janet Brandly

Hello all,

Has anyone had experience with the accessibility of courses from the Professional Development Institute- Canada? This is an on-line college which is affiliated with Ashworth College in the US. I took a medical transcription course a number of years ago and am considering their 4-month MT course as a refresher. I spoke with one of their advisors yesterday. The outcome was not satisfactory. She did not know whether their program is recognized here in Canada and whether I can use their receipts or income taxes. The information is on their website an they are recognized. She also claims that the medical transcription program is not accessible for screen readers. Unfortunately, she was not able to provide me with the name of the learning platform they use o I cannot try it for myself. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Janet

Inconsistency between reading paragraph numbers and reading attributes

I have found that, when enabling one of the features in document formatting (control+ NVDA + d), I lose the reading of paragraph numbers in MS Word 2016 under Windows 10 and NVDA 19.3.

Hello Mohammad.
You can use the NVDA cursor to access the share screen button.
But you need to have a fully keyboard to be able to use the NVDA cursor.
I hope that’s helpful to you.
