I haven't worked with exel using NVDA but asfar as opening attachments in outlook, you shift tab to the attachment and hit control right arrow. You'll hear the word "message". Hit the context key and arrow down to penattachment. Hit enter to open it.

I’m new to this list, and so grateful to have found it!  I was a very happy WindowEyes user and came to Jaws very unwillingly, and have never liked it.  Just started using NVDA today, and it seems a lot like WindowEyes, so I think I’ll be very happy!

My other pressing issue is reading titles with Excel.  I live in Excel, so this could be a deal-breaker.  With smaller spreadsheets, I’ve gotten the titles to read pretty well, but I have some spreadsheets that have 17,000 or more rows, and NVDA reads the first row of data sometimes as column titles.  Is there a limit on the size spreadsheet NVDA can comfortably handle?

 

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

This problem is not just an NVDA issue but is more of a problem with Teams and it's one which Microsoft is aware of, although I'm somewhat mystified that it's taken this long for a fix to be deployed to production.

One way to get Teams to cooperate when accessibility seems to break down is to resize the window. In other words, press Windows-down arrow to minimize it and then restore or maximize it again. This should get Teams to resume communicating with your screen reader.

As I tried to read the recipe, the screenreader is also reading some sort of a flash object that is promoting other articles. Is there a way to stop this? It seems like either I should be able to stop the screenreader from announcing this, or I should be able to stop Google Chrome from displaying it. I have used ad blockers in the past, but it seems like many webpages now will not allow you to access their resources if you are using an ad blocker, so I wonder if there is some other tool that I could use.

I was also very happy with Window-Eyes. Fortunately, I skipped JAWS completely and came directly to NVDA. I have been happy with it so far. The email support is outstanding.

Regarding attachments in Outlook, recently I was having an issue where NVDA would announce that a message had an attachment but, when shift-tabbing from the message body, no attachment would appear. Apparently these messages did not in fact have attachments but the reason NVDA saying they did had something to do with how the message was written. When messages do have actual attachments, they will appear when you shift-tab from within the body of the message. You will hear the list of attachments and told to use alt plus down arrow to hear the list of options.

I have no meaningful experience with Excel so cannot help you there.

Here's how to get subscribed.


1. Go to https://www.freelists.org/list/audacity4blind.
2. Enter your email address into the "your email address" edit box.
3. Tab to and check the check box to indicate that you aren't a robot.
4. Tab to the Next button and press it. You will receive an email to confirm the subscription.
5. In that email, open the link to confirm your email address. A web page opens in which you have to agree to various terms.

pycld2 is better it has built in function to split string into
languages, but you have to  pip install from github not pypi. The
version on pypi has issues on install.

I don’t know if you had any other answers but as I understand Speech Hub basically operates to improve the performance of some legacy older voices like the older Microsoft voices and some others.

It also occasionally helps out in some other non NVDA situations, I don’t know why, but for example on one  machine I could not get the Speak On app to recognise standard purchased Sapi 5 voices but they worked fine when ported through SpeechHub for some reason so was very useful there.
