Re: Free .RTF file creater

Wordpad does open many document formats but it doesn't have a spell checcker. JARTE is built on Wordpad and it has a spell checker and more features than just Wordpad. I havedn't used it much and I haven't kept it updated. You can read docx files with it but you used to need a Microsoft compatibility pack (spelling) installed to be able to do so because Jarte used, perhaps it still does, the old menu version of Wordpad for its base.

We don't know any specific ways in which the persson wants to use the programs so, although we can discuss different options, there is no way to address any specific purposes the person has.

I'm afraid, Hettie, that you might not find Softmaker, especially the
spreadsheet portion, as accessible as you might need. Please let us
know how it works for you.

Hi Brian and all the "faster than lightning" replies.

Think I will try SoftMaker as it has a wordprocessor as well as a spread sheet section. I prefer one app for all instead of different apps. Will try it and report back.

My problem with Wordpad is that it doesn't give me a page or word count which is often important to me.

I use jarte as well. Be aware though when you launch it you will hear "jarte plus." this is normal. You are getting the plus version which is free with a lot of limitation. For example the auto correct feature is not available and some other things, but I love and use this reader, a lot!

You actually have one on your computer. It's called wordpad. Go to run and type "wordpad" sand quotes, and there you go, it should work out for you.

For RTF you do not need to download nothing...

Use WordPad. It is native from Windows...

Gene,

I am not sure about this, cause Facebook had been altering its design this or last month, which IE may have bben working well with the old site, but not the current site.

When I read posts, I use browse mode, pressing "h" to move from heading to heading. If I want to like a post, I navigate to the like button. When I press enter on it, it appears to be stuck in the reactions area. If I press escape, I am thrown somewhere else on the page.

I try to comment on a post I liked, and it has me doing things to the reactions. I hit the escape key and again, I"m thrown somewhere else on the page. I hope I can help you all solve this one. It is annoying, to say the least.

Re: Recovering an Acapela activation key from unusable computer how’s it done?

Well code factory is ok as long as you lock and unlock your keys.

Its stated you need to do this when you activate its not that hard to do.

If it screws atguys or code factory will probably help you reset your count or clear your ids or something.

Mind you you may just have to buy more unless that is you use atguys which are always fast.

You have to contact the support team to reset the activation counts for you. That's what they've told me when I had the same question like you, and I emailed the support team. Thankfully, their DRM system is not like the Code Factory, or at least from my experience.

For those of you who already have NVDA’s Acapela voices, if God forbid I were to be in this situation, but it’s always good to know just in case: how would one recover an activation key (out of the 3 given when purchasing), if the computer on which the license is activated, suddenly dies, without loosin the key in the process, thus being unable to deactivate that machine’s key, through NVDA/Acapela voices/License Management? If I let that key go, when I get the computer repaired and returned back to me and upon activating Acapela again on that same machine especially if he computer needs to be reformatted), I’d e using up Activation Key #2; hence having one left for emmergencies! Is there a website I could go to, and manage my activation keys without depending on the machine on which the key is activated, to deactivate it? I wouldn’t want to loos any activations unnecessarily. Thanks for info.

Re: Minor Problem: NVDA Closing/Exit Sounds Not Being Heard When Exiting NVDA

David Goldfield

I am happy to report that v1.6.3 of the Acapela driver has fixed the problem of the exit sound not being heard when exiting or when restarting NVDA. When I first loaded the Acapela voices there was some noticeable difference in that the pitch sounded very low even though it was set to 50. However, switching to another voice and then back to my preferred voice fixed that glitch, as well.

To be honest thats why I am all for sapi voices in the big synths but then I want to be a multiuser type deal.

I don't really need high quality voices for general admin, after all, crappy and fast with good performance is fine for my general day to day life.

Playing games or reading books, then yeah I need better voices, but espeak does what it does which is read the screen.

The issue with high quality voices is while you can use them to read the screen there is a delay when they do things and there is a bit of lag.

They are fine for books and games though.

Espeak is also good in dosbox but that could also be my old dos days.

Of course depending what the game is, you need a voice that fits.

Sometimes there are arcade and other games that while you can run a high quality voice, especially if these are mimicking older arcade machines, high quality kinda doesn't go, then something crappy and robotic sounding like eloquence fits that machine.

Beatstar for example fits a lot better with eloquence because I concidder it an arcade type unit type deal.

But it depends on the user and what you do of course.

For most of the time I actually need performance over quality.

As long as its read then its fine.
