Hey Gary,

Nice to see you here!

Don't you like Microsoft OneCore voices?
I think the English ones are ok, both US and UK.

Hi

There are 2 packages in this zip file.

one is the speech platform synth and voices there are quite a few languages there.

You need to install the run time file first then the synths.

the other one is RH voices and synths .

I will leave it in the drop box for 24 hours or so and you can download it from https://www.dropbox.com/s/9kh3aip9atldlho/synth%20packages.zip?dl=1

The speech hub package page can be found at
http://www.speakon.org.uk/SpeechHub/public/docs/NVDAClient/index.html

there you can find out more info about it and its synths/voices.

you will need also to download the latest add on for 2020.1 or it might
be the version before.

The synth package will need to be installed first then you must install
the add on for nvda to see those synths/voices.

the link to the page where you can read more about it can be found at
http://www.speakon.org.uk/SpeechHub/public/docs/NVDAClient/index.html

The other one I just copied off my how to add additional components page
but the voices are at the bottom of this page can be found at

This was the page it came off which points to other free and paid

Re: Automatic Column and Row Header Reading

You need to tell NVDA where the headers are for it to read them.  Press NVDA+shift+c to set column headers and NVDA+shift+r to set row headers.  Note that you need to be in the first cell you want headers read.

Re: looking for a free synthesiser

Hmmm well there is pico, but thats low quality.

There is rh voice found here.

https://github.com/Olga-Yakovleva/RHVoice

That may or may not suit you.

If you add ms voices from narator you may get some good ones.

Finally enablerehab@... is the address you can email for dectalk, they only ask you to pay what you want for it.

Some of the languages are quite quiet but that may work for you.

Its sapi5.

there is flite but thats really bad, there is speech hub and you could try those.

There is this.

https://www.nvaccess.org/post/high-quality-voices-available-for-nvda/

There is a wiki article on the speech synths for the reader but I can't seem to find it.

Hi there: Is it a language barrier with your synth? Is that why you are finding it difficult to upgrade to windows ten?  I had to upgrade to ten. My 7 box died.  The sound card burned out and some of my usb ports quit working.  The computer was funtionable. I had no audio and it was badly slowing down.  A sighted worker took it from me. He asked if he can have it after he put my stuff on this system off the hard drive. I said sure. I gave him the windows 7 disks. He scrubbed it and he used it for his video games.  He put in an external sound card and disabled the one I had there.  Not much longer after that the hard drive went and he just recycled it.

Re: looking for a free synthesiser

Sky Mundell

Hello. First, Codefactory has a SAPI 5 version of Eloquence that you can get for a price. I don’t have the price on the top of my head, but if you google Eloquence for NVDA code factory Eloquence. Another add-on they have is the Eloquence and Vocaliser expressive add-on for NVDA which also Codefactory makes, and it contains Eloquence and Vocaliser in one add-on. But as for free voices, the only free voices that I know of are TruVoice, and the Microsoft Speech from 1999 with Mary, Mike, and Sam. A slight correction. I think you meant windows one core voices. If your' on windows 10, NVDA doesn’t use ESpeak as the default voice. Instead, you get the one core voices by default if your on windows 10.
I hope this helps. Thanks, Sky.

Re: nvda not speaking program/icon on the desktop when pressing first letter

Hi,
I suspect NVDA is not being notified about selection changes, sometimes
caused by an add-on or a setting interfering with what NVDA is supposed to
do. To test, try restarting with all add-ons disabled, and if that solves
the issue, we can move onto isolating individual add-ons.
Cheers,
Joseph

The original message doesn't say there is no speech. It gives one specific
condition where there is no speech, when you use first letter navigation in
a list. Since there is speech, the possible solutions don't apply.

I have no reason why no speech occurs at that one specific time. Using read
current line should easily solve the problem and the command takes almost no
time to execute. It may be possible to find the reason by examining the log
but there are some problems that are so minor and so easily worked around
that they aren't worth solving, though you may, if you wish to, pursue it,
of course.

Hi

I am sure you would of checked the following on the computer.

One that his speakers are plugged into the right whole and turned on.

On the computer the sound is not muted.

Press the windows key + letter R to bring up the run dialogue then type in
sndvol then press the enter key.

The next screen that comes up will have the master volume make sure it is
right up so you can hear it and not down on zero.

There is a box under it if checked it will mute the sound so make sure it is

un checked.

If you can see nvda is running but not talking under that section I think
there is a slider to make it louder there.

Also check when nvda is running that under the synth settings in nvda you
press the nvda key + ctrl key + the letter S to bring it up.

Make sure under the synth section that it has a synth there and not set to
no speech if it is set to that change it to e speak or another synth
package.

Hi

Another that just come to mind is you might of accidentally turned off speech on nvda.

Use the nvda key + letter S to toggle between no speech, beep and talk then save your settings with the ctrl key + nvda key + the letter C

i guess it could easily be done if you wanted to change your synth settings but missed out the ctrl key .

Glad to hear it.

After posting the instructions I posted, I decided to dig in to the Groups.io static help page, where I was not surprised to find this:

I Am On Gmail And I Don't Like Getting Copies Of My Messages
To turn off duplicate emails, log into your account. Then look for the dropdown in the top right corner of the page, which will be either your name or email address. Click that and then click Account. From your Account page, click the Preferences sidebar tab. Look for the 'I always want copies of my own messages' checkbox and uncheck that. Then click the Update Preferences button.

nvda not speaking program/icon on the desktop when pressing first letter

Fresh Start <dan@...>

Hi All, I am using NVDA 20.1 on a client’s windows ten pro laptop. When on the desktop or in a list of programs or files, NVDA doesn’t speak the name of a program or file when pressing it’s first letter.  However, the cursor does go to the location.  I know this by arrowing up and then down.  I tried maximizing but didn’t cause any change in behavior.  Any ideas to resolve the problem?  Thanks in advance.

You know, Zahra, you have already been given explicit instructions on
where
and how to start, but have chosen to ignore those. Until, and unless,
you
get yourself logged in to the Groups.io website, and check the account
setting I've already mentioned, there would be absolutely, positively no
point in doing anything else, for that simple change may be it.

Re: I have purchased vocalizer expressive, but where is my license key

You use your account credentials to login after you install the NVDA add-on and voices you want. Then you can activate it.

Hi all, especially to the developer of the vocalizer expressive for NVDA

I have purchased the vocalizer expressive for NVDA, and I only receive PayPal e-mail confirmation about my order, but no actual e-mail from Tiflotecnia about my license. Is the license system suppose to be automatic, or it has to be processed manually? I also sent an e-mail to support contact found on the website, but I also email it in case the one I was sending not checked.

Thanks.
