I'm not sure what you want to do.  Do you use read to end when reading mail or just down arrow through the entire message?  You can use the read to end command to both stop unwanted repetition and begin reading the message body.

Sharni-Lee, this often happens in Windows 10 in conjunction w/a
Realtech audio driver. Specifically, it happens when enhancements are
enabled.

Try going to control panel > sound, then down arrow till you hear your
playback device announced. It might sound similar to:
Speakers; Realtek(R) Audio;
Press alt p for properties.
Control tab till you hear "spatial sound" announced.
At this point you should be in a dropdown list which you can use your
up & down arrow keys to navigate.
Arrow to 'off', then tab to ok & activate. Press ok as many times as
required to exit the dialog.

Using NVDA 2020.2 and Google Chrome Version 86.0.4221.0 (Official Build) canary (64-bit) on windows 10
I press alt+ctrl+z to enable screen reader mode. However I get no braille output. Is this a known bug, or did I miss a step somewhere.

Any tips on using Google Sheets with NVDA? I understand the platform has made some great strides in A11y.

Well why don't you ask your it people to upgrade you to 2004, I am sure others will be getting the next version upgrade.
