Re: Which video software for nvda

But you can set the program to download in MP4 and not convert the file.

Sometimes for some reason, a file you want to convert to MP3 may remain in the unconverted MP4 format. I'm not sure if I've seen that happen except when downloading using a playlist, but I have seen it happen.

Hi Heddy,

Pontes Media Downloader does give you the option to download the full

unconverted video from Youtube. It also allows conversion to MP3 and

other audio formats. I am totally blind myself and therefore I cannot

make accurate analysis of just what quality of videos are downloaded.

By default, it downloads the video in MP4 format. I think this may be a

compressed form of the video, so if compressed video format is not good

enough, maybe this won't work for you.

In any case, the download page for this app is:

Please be careful when downloading video converters. They tend to be
notorious for containing potentially unwanted programs (PUP's) or even
outright malware. I can't count the number of machines I've had to
repair over the years because of this very reason. If you do decide
you absolutely must have such, then please try ninite first
www.ninite.com
as this bypasses all the crapware.

If not, then at least pay attention when installing & uncheck the
other offerings most of these try to present, but even so, that
doesn't always work. & Google does not screen these, so searching for
such programs there does not mean you'll necessarily get a
crapware-free app.

If you do a Google search for NVDA add-on nativeaccess, you will likely find any that are available, if any. When I want to know if there is an add-on for a program, rather than go to the add-ons page and then search or look around, I do a Google search. This finds the add-on if it is on the official page or somewhere else, if it is somewhere else. of course, if you get it from somewhere else, you may want to try to find out if the developer has a good reputation before installing and using it. Add-ons can be used for malicious purposes.

After you try Joseph's test, you may want to try this.

It is possible that Windows removed the voices for some reason. To try to get them back, press your windows key and type "speech".
Move down to "speech settings", and press enter.
Then tab over to the "Manage voices" group, and you should be on the "add voices" button.
Press enter on that, and you will be able to enter and choose your language, and then install the appropriate voice pack(s).
In this case, you'll want to install the English (US) voice pack.
Once you select and install the voice, close everything and restart NVDA.

This is all assuming that the English (US) voice pack is not already installed.

Re: Windows OneCore voices don't appear correctly in the list of synthesizers

Hi,

What happens if you press Control+Windows+Enter to start Narrator? Narrator is supposed to use Windows OneCore voices by default, and if Narrator does come up talking, chances are that it might be something going on with NVDA or an add-on (or two) if you did install add-ons.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hello,

Go to the NVDA icon in the systray by pressing Windows-B (on your Mac keyboard Option-B), hit the letter N until you come to NVDA and press Enter

Hi friends,

I Have installed NVDA on a machine which has a bluetooth keyboard and I can’t find the insert key, not sure if it has one, it is the Apple style layout.

I Need to bring up the NVDA menu to go in to the options and change the keyboard layout to be laptop but I can’t perform an instert+n, does anyone know of another way to bring up the NVDA menu please?

Steven do the following
press your windows key
up arrow
page down until you get to the N section
arrow to NVDA and press enter
arrow down to "explore NVDA configuration directory" and enter
open NVDA.ini
search for capsLock and change the value to true
save the document
restart NVDA
this should give you the use of the capsLock. key.as a modifier.

Hi all,

i've recently released a new development version of the OCR addon which
can be downloaded from
https://github.com/lukaszgo1/nvda-ocr/releases/download/v2.1-dev/ocr-2.1-dev.nvda-addon
While user visible changes are documented in the readme the main change
in this version is the way in which parts of the screen are captured for
recognition and that is where I need your help. If you're using my
add-on currently I would be grateful if you could install the dev
version from the link above and use it for some time.
I've done some testing before release obviously but it is impossible
to account for every application out there, and while the new capturing
implementation makes future maintenance easier I don't want to do that
at the cost of worse recognition results.
Many thanks for your testing!

Louise, exactly which version of Windows 10 and NVDA are you running?

To get the windows 10 version, press the windows key, type "winver" (without the quotes), and press enter.
For NVDA, press NVDA+n, h, a.

If you press NVDA+R three times quickly, NVDA will be reset to factory defaults. If you do that, and then look for One Core in the dropdown available from NVDA+ctrl+s, do you find it?

While there are ways to simulate the real insert key on a Mac style keyboard (such as FN+i, FN+enter), there is no actual insert key unfortunately.

When you install NVDA, there is a welcome dialog that comes up. In it, one of the options is a checkbox for using the capslock key as a modifier. If you reinstall NVDA, make sure you check that box.

I Need to bring up the NVDA menu to go in to the options and change the keyboard layout to be laptop but I can’t perform an instert+n, does anyone know of

As several people suggested: if you go to the NVDA icon in the notification area, and press enter on it, you will get the NVDA menu. After that, pressing p, s, k, and tabbing a few times, should get you to the option you want.

Have you tried that?

Luke
