Hi, I expect it’ll be every 24 hours just like NVDA’s own update check interval. Cheers, Joseph

Speaking of addon updater. Once it's intigrated into NVDA, I woulder. Would it be possible to set how frequently it checks for updates? Ie realtime, once every hour, once every two hours, four hours, and so on? Just a thought.

Hi, To expand on my statement about letting NVDA go: there is one more thing I need to do, and that is declare Add-on Updater end of life i.e. give NVDA itself the ability to check for add-on updates. It’s a project I’ve been thinking about and working on for the past seven years, and the pieces are slowly coming together. That doesn’t mean I’m leaving the community altogether – I can envision becoming more like Jamie – occasionally giving advice and coding suggestions. Cheers, Joseph

Hi, There are replacements such as Audio Themes. Also, the NVDA pull request associated with it (for NVDA issue 2559), while useful, wasn’t really ready. Besides, it has become clear to me that in order to prepare for the next stage in my life (graduate school), I need to let go of NVDA, and letting go of add-ons that are effectively end of life is just one stage of this process (I thought about this decision for a long time). I know that we have people who can take good care of this add-on in the future. Cheers, Joseph

Hi all, Originally I planned to release version 20.09 of various add-ons next week. However in order to spend more time studying and to better process recent tragedies in United States and elsewhere (shootings, floods, COVID-19 updates), I’ll be releasing these updates tonight (August 27th to be exact). The new updates include:
As always, these updates can be found via Add-on Updater and from community add-ons website. Note: development snapshots for StationPlaylist and Windows 10 App Essentials will be suspended effective tonight until further notice.
Another reminder: we are indeed living in an unpredictable moment. I therefore urge you all to keep yourself and others safe and healthy. For people impacted by recent tragedies and short-term events to come, we are here for you. Cheers, Joseph

I was using Firefox at the time, I think. Most likely I didn't test it
on more than one browser, because that's the browser that particular Twitter account is logged into, and I was authorizing via Twitter. It did post in the end, I just went back and looked at it. It just looked like it didn't at the time.

Object Location Tones 20.09, penultimate add-on release
#addonrelease
Hi all, Object Location Tones 20.09 will show up in about an hour or so from now. This version includes code edits based on Flake8 lint tool recommendations.
IMPORTANT: Object Location Tones add-on will be discontinued by end of 2020. As much as I wish to develop this add-on further, the time for this add-on’s usefulness has passed, and I would like to lighten my NVDA work in preparation for next stage in life. As the add-on is released under GNU General Public License, anyone is welcome to study, modify, and share their edits. The repo can be found at: https://github.com/josephsl/objlocationtones
The last version of this add-on from me is planned for early next year (likely in January 2021).
Cheers, Joseph

Did you only try one browser? It wasn't with Disqus, but on a blog site, I wasn't able to post a reply using Chrome but with Firefox I was.

Re: NVDA read-to-end
George McCoy
Let me say at the outset, I usually hybernate my computer when I'm through with it for the day. When I have this issue, running with add-ons disabled does not help. I even completely uninstalled NvDA. by 'completely' I mean I also removed appData\roaming\nvda and all its subdirectories. When I reinstalled NvDA, the issue was not resolved. I shut down the computer and rebooted several times. No joy. I chose 'restart' several times. No joy. Then, one morning when I brought the system out of hybernation, everything worked properly. I had trouble with read to end with Notetab ++, Thunderbird v 68, Firefox and Brave browsers. I'll save the log next time it happens.

I just tested this and it beeps when speak typed characters is on or off. It does it when speak words is on or off as well, so the screen-reader could be silent and it would still beep.

Re: NVDA stalling/crashing

Do you have any other add-ons installed? Note that when you uninstalled / reinstalled NVDA it doesn't delete the %appdata%\nvda folder, so any add-ons etc you had previously would still be there (and any problems caused by them).. If you press NVDA+Q then down arrow to "restart with add-ons disabled" it should ignore any add-ons when it restarts. Quentin.

NVDA stalling/crashing
Justin Harford
Hello everyone I am dealing with a difficult situation. I just installed to the latest version of NVDA. This was an update from a much earlier version, as I delayed updating since there was not a compatible version of the dictation bridge at the time. my vocalizer plug-in stopped working. I went to the tiflotechnia website to download the latest version of the plug-in, which after I installed it, said it was not compatible. I then completely removed the vocalizer plugging along with the synthesizers. When I was trying to use the screen reader with e speak, it randomly would crash. I would go into fire fox, type in a search, the results would load and I would start trying to navigate through the headings and we get no response. I would press alt tab, and no response. I then uninstalled the screen reader bygoing into the settings, under applications, and clicking uninstall. I assume that activates the same uninstall file in the program files folder. At this point I was using narrator. I restarted the computer, And ran the installer again. When the installation was complete, I was having the same issues. I am not past this point now. Whenever I try to run NVDA, It quickly goes silent after a simple task like bringing up the run dialogue and attempting to type something in. The speech becomes unresponsive, though I can still tab around the applications and open the start menu. Can somebody help? Justin Harford (he/him/his) program Coordinator (NCDE)

Re: NVDA and Disqus
Disqus is very widely used, so at this point since the comments/discussion bit has been identified, I will be curious if anyone else using any other site that also employs Disqus for its comments is encountering the same issue, and with onset at the same time, or not so. That would help to further narrow the scope.
