Re: Thunderbird announcing 0 in the message list before subject line
Hello all, I think the "0" value is for the SPAM. By default Thunderbird displays a column which indicates if a message is SPAM or not. I don't know how this is presented graphically, but for screen readers it is probably presented with a binary value ("0" when it is not SPAM and "1" if it is SPAM).______ На 6.9.2020 г. в 19:34, Gene написа:

I'm not sure what is causing the current problem, but changing the order of display may work around it. For example, if the column being displayed shows a 0 and appears as the first column, changing the order to last would move it out of the way. That is another possible way to solve the problem. It might be easier than the way I suggested. If the problem is the first column, you can move it down to the last, at which time the add-on tells you you can't move it further. and the order of the columns in the list is the order in which they appear on screen. Rui,
I have encountered this sort of thing when a given piece of software meant to do one thing very well, in this case OCR, gives a very primitive and half-posteriored method to do something it's not dedicated to doing. My solution has always been to save out the OCRed result to some file format you can open in another, dedicated editor that does work well and do the corrections there. It's sometimes the only way I've found for dealing with this that prevents insanity (or mine, anyway). In worst case scenarios it was a two-step process where the OCRed result went straight to PDF, and then the PDF was opened in MS-Word, which converts it to Word format as part of the open process. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 A gentleman is one who never hurts anyone's feelings unintentionally. ~ Oscar Wilde

Firstly, I didn't said that FineReader was fully accessible! I just asked what was the problem with the acessibility of the menus... Regarding the Editor window it is somehow accessible, but it is a strange window... I have tried with a document, recognized almost completly correct to TXT format, but with errors on the Editor window... And trying to correct in that window is not possible... By instance, in the Editor appears M RIA instead of MARIA, and I was unable to correct it... After the recognition, press Control Tab and then Shift Control Tab... Maybe not the first time, but you will land in a edit area... Rui Fontes Às 16:40 de 06/09/2020, Cearbhall O'Meadhra escreveu:

I am using FineReader 11 because I recognised its value as an OCR machine. The menus are perfectly accessible. However I cannot browse the document resulting from OCR nor can I make any edits to the document. The editor does not seem to be accessible. As you do find this program to be fully accessible, could you suggest how I might use the editor and view my pages in FineReader with NVDA? Your description of the show desktop button isn't my understanding of the button. It doesn't match what the button does in Windows 7 nor what I have read that it does in Windows 10. I did a search for show desktop button Windows 10 and saw this explanation. I'm not sure what site it came from, I can find out if desired but anyone can do a search for what I searched for and check this information, which I believe is accurate. The Show Desktop button is a small rectangle in the far-right bottom corner of the Windows desktop. It is much smaller than it was in Windows 7, but clicking on the sliver at the end of the taskbar will minimize all of the open Windows and provide immediate access to the Windows desktop. In other words, the show desktop button does what Windows key m does for keyboard users, according to this information. Gene

This might or might not help, but a column may be being displayed in that folder that isn't in others. I am not aware of a column that would show 0 before all or most messages but while you are in that folder, you can try the following:

I am giving desktop commands. I don't use or know laptop commands: Make sure you are in object navigation, NVDA key numpad one until you hear object navigation or no previous navigation modes. Then use the command NVDA key numpad 4. You will be on a button that says show columns to display. Actoivate it with the command nvda key numpad enter, which is the bottom long key at the right of the numpad. A menu will open. You can down arrow through all sorts of items. You can experiment by unchecking one at a time, then closing the menu with escape and seeing what happens when you move through the message list. You check or uncheck items by pressing enter on them. Unlike most menus in general, in this menu, checking or unchecking something doesn't cause the menu to close. You can go up or down it, checking or unchecking anything you like and you can check and then uncheck something if you change your mind by pressing enter on it again. For testing, I think you should uncheck one item at a time, then, if it doesn't solve the problem, open the menu again, check it again, then uncheck the next one down, etc. You may want to wait for other information or suggestions since testing in this way might take some time and be somewhat tedious. If you have done any rearranging of the order of columns, don't press the restore column order. That sets columns back to their default order and you will have to rearrange them again. Gene

Yeah textcloner pro uses the iris engine. I only need ocr for the occasional bill or other typed document. I have knfb reader for some other stuff, and for the rest if balabolka or codex can't read it then they are probably not worth my time. I do hope that they do get this fixed. I have not invested in omnipage as such but still. Even though I emailed finereader support well abbyy support about this issue with menus and delays in nvda, it appears that they never fixed it. It took ages till I even got an update and then I asked support about my access fixes only to be told they were not completed. You'd think they would actually, 1. give a higher priority to get those fixed and also update sooner. In sort I really want a program that is reliable and has good support. As for omnipage, its not even owned by nuance. Aparently the best abbyy version is v12 but while yes I have my registration code I no longer have links that work for old abbyy 12.

Those are questions those who use newer versions of these programs will have to discuss to get current information because things can change so much and so fast in programs.

Re: OCR

I haven't tried Kurzweil for many years. If they are still updating the OCR in the program, it should be roughly equivalent, as I found it to be in the past. I don't know how you might intend to use the program but it isn't worth spending about 1,000 dollars unless you specifically intend to use features other than the OCR in Kurzweil. Its been a long time since I looked at price information for Omnipage and Fine Reader but they are much less expensive, being off the shelf programs and not having to amortize their development costs over a very small user base.

"latest versions" is a bit nebulous, but I will assume you mean you are using NVDA 2020.2 and Windows 10 version 2004. That given: what add-ons have you tried, and where did you get them? Perhaps more importantly, have you tried to install these add-ons after first restarting NVDA with add-ons disabled? If so, can you set your log to debugging, and send it to me off list? (%temp%\nvda-old.log is the file for the previous NVDA session, %temp%\nvda.log is the log from the active session.) Btw, didn't you used to work in the computer lab at ASB many years ago? I knew you from stuff I used to do in the same building, think we hung out a few times. Luke
