Hi. I remember having decent luck with windows movie maker many years
ago but my understanding is that is no longer included in windows. I
certainly don’t see it in windows 10. There’s a store app with that
name but I think it’s a third-party program. Can you clarify which
program you are referring to?

Re: Navigating to a specific link when there are many on a webpage

Paragraph is a technical term within NVDA. Most likely your link is a paragraph. So just put the full text of your link in BrowserNav settings in browser marks field. Then you'd be able to jump there directly with J and Shift+J keystrokes.

Go into its settings, the last entry is where you can add your regex strings you can jump to with hotkey J

I can’t reproduce that. When switching apps it always comes back to Preferences. I’m using Notepad++ v7.5.6 (64-bit)

I'm trying Notepad++ again, and it seems a bit better this time around.

However, one thing I am noticing is that when I bring up preferences, then switch away from the program, then switch back again, preferences is completely gone. Attempting to bring it up again does nothing.  If I close the current Notepad++ file window, preferences reappears, so it would seem that it is somehow in a hidden tab which most likely is not accessible via keystroke. I'll bet you can click somewhere with a mouse and have it magically appear.

Does anyone know of a fix for this?

I don't use Notepad++, but whenever you are working with tabs or a program with windows you can't move to in ways you might usually do, use control tab to see if you can. It works to move among tabs and it works in Winamp to move among windows and in Thunderbird, as examples.

Re: An inconvenience in Thunderbird

Gene

I didn't bring it up because that specific thing matters to any extent.  I brought it up because, since I haven't used the program much, I wanted to see if it was a more general problem.  it appears to be very limited and probably doesn't matter to any extent if it is pursued.  But if it were a far more general characteristic of the dialogs in the program, it would matter. For example, if shortcut commands weren't announced in the spellchecker, that would really matter.  They are announced and are different from the Microsoft shortcut commands.  As I said, this appears not to be a problem in general based on what I've seen and the lack of response, so it appears nothing need be done.

I also brought it up because it is such a popular program among blind users and developers put work into making it accessible.

I would also recommend that one download the program off the web site rather than using the one in the Microsoft store. I’m not sure why, but that one is quite limited.

If I land on that particular dialogue, it's because I've messed up the
message I was writing really badly. I just discard it by default. That's
a different dialogue than say when Thunderbird is having issues saving
to the sent folder for some reason.

Usually I get the dialogue that it's trying to save a message, but
can't because of network access errors. In that case I knew it was going
to slow everything down, so I wouldn't save the message either.

  • I had some success using Virtual Dub several (6-7) years ago.
  • If you're able to find it and get it to work, Windows Live Movie Maker was reasonably accessible.
  • The Photos app in Windows 10 supports some basic video editing, though I suspect this will be the same as what you can access from the Camera app.
  • If you're patient and reasonably savvy, you may be able to get FFMPEG to do some of what you want, though it isn't really what it's intended for.
