I am so grateful for NVDA.

Words can not express my gratitude.

Thank you for all that you do.

During this pandemic NVDA is helping me use WebEx to attend classes and helping me complete assignments.

It is also helping me stay in contact with friends and family.

If it were not for NVDA I would not be able to attend school right now.

Again, thank you so much.

Wow, I did not know these alternative ways to access the task bar, such as holding down the Alt key or the Windows key shortcuts.  I like these.  Thanks! :)

I'll also try adjusting task bar settings, but now it's great to know I have other, easier ways to cycle through all my running programs!

I don't know if that helps. But with JAWS these very frequent issues seem not to happen.

Hi all,

when I work with edit fields or combo boxes in Edge NVDA or Edge often crashes. I'm not sure which of the programs causes the issue. NVDA is just silent when it happens.

Sometimes I can restart NVDA by pressing a shortcut I set up and then it works again. But it also can happen that NVDA does not restart. Then it usually helps to start and close Narrator (CTRL+WINDOWS+ENTER) and that seems to help NVDA to speak again.

Mostly I'm experiencing these crashes when I'm writing a mail on gmail.com or when I'm uploading tracks on Soundcloud.

While writing this message, I had to restart NVDA six times cause it stopped working.

I use Windows 10, latest stable version of Edge and NVDA 2020.2.

Does anyone know what the reason could be? It is not nice! :)

Best

Denis

Hi Gary

Have you tried adjusting the parameters for task bar icons?  Open the settings app (Windows+I), open the “personalisation” category tab to the sub-categories list and arrow down to the task bar entry and press enter.  Tab through the controls and try adjusting those rlating to task bar icons.

Cheers Chris

Quentin,

Apologies for not spell-checking my last response!

I really appreciate the value of NVDA. As I said, I use it as my principle screen reader for every action including emails, web searches and resolving accounting problems using Microsoft Excel.

I have started following a Python course during the lock-down. With some help, I found a course called Think Python very accessible and well-written. I tried the online console service Python Anywhere and found it  to be very accessible for direct command line issues. But its online editor was unusable with NVDA and so I had to abandoned it altogether. I found that I could run Python commands from the Windows console in Windows 10 and that works very well with NVDA.

I would like to thank  the team for all their work on this great screen reader.

All the best,

Cearbhall

Re: Intermittent Task Bar Problem

Tyler Spivey

I haven't seen this issue, but I don't use the task bar like that.
Alt+tab doesn't just switch between two windows.
Hold down alt, and press tab. It should say the window you're going to
switch to, which should be the most recent one you were in. If you don't
want that one, keep alt held down and press tab until you find the one
you want.
If you went too far, alt shift tab or just let it wrap around.

You can also press windows 1 through 0 to switch to that entry on the
task bar. If you don't want the first few slots taken up by the default
pinned apps like Edge, you can unpin them from the context menu. You can
also pin the apps you always want on the taskbar, so they'll show up
regardless if they're open or not.

Hi Quentin.  The main factor which influences  me to choose  NVDA is that it doesn't take as much computer resources as Jaws does. This enables me to use NVDA more for intensive computer work like Music production and Games development with the Reaper DAW and IDES like Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code, and especially with Android Studio.  Thanks to the NVDA team for all your hard work and dedication in constantly improving NVDA, and all the benifit of the Blind community.  Cheers!

I too feel that NVDA is the best screen reader out there. It has helped me as far as doing shopping online as well as writing messages.

I’ve said before how NVDA. Is the best screen reader I know.  During this pandemic I can go to tech classes using it.  I’m learning how to use Zoom and Teams.  Sometimes I run into glitches, but I don’t think this is due to NVDA.  I’m trying to learn how to get around those glitches so I can use these programs more smoothly.  The 1 core voices are fantastic.  Some people perefer eloquence, but I get retired of its inflection.

NVDA benefits me even when there is not a pandemic more than I know how to express in words. during the pandemic, however, it has worked well with Zoom since I have been attending many Zoom meetings. I do not know how to thank those who give many hours of their time to keep on working on NVDA to make it the best that it can be.

Thank you so very much.
