Re: accessible disk imaging software.

Richard Kuzma

Good morning,
I use image for windows and it is completely accessible.
I use it with jaws but nvda should work as well.
It is very inexpensive and has a thirty day trial.
I have successfully backed up my pc for about four years now and even used it to backup and restore to a new hard drive with no trouble.
Hope this helps,
Rich

Deborah, regarding other speech options you can purchase licenses for Nuance Vocalizer voices as well as Acapela, both of which offer Spanish options.

This link takes you to the page where you can purchase a package giving you a combination of both Eloquence and Vocalizer, which is the option that I purchased.

The various voices for Acapela and Vocalizer need to be individually downloaded.

If I use JAWS and when a website, assignment or test doesn't have the correct markup for automatic language switching, I can issue the keystroke Control-Windows-L to have JAWS change the synthesizer language.

But I am not finding any feature in NVDA that does the same thing. I can certainly go to preferences and Speech and make changes there, but I'm often reading things in Spanish with instructions or explanations in English. And I prefer the Braille support NVDA gives me with Spanish. Is there an easier way to switch synthesizer languages on the fly?

I previously used the switch synth add-on before NVDA moved to Python 3. But I removed all my add-ons to make the upgrade easier, and then just installed Braille extender.  Is that switch Synth add-on still the easiest or the only way to do this?
And are my only choices for free Spanish voices the Microsoft and the Espeak Spanish voices?

Thanks for the help.

They are extremely accessible.
I think drivesnapshot does full and differencial backup and image for
windows does full, differencial and increments.

Edited

Hello,
I am wanting to use nvda with station playlist 5.40.
Will this be like starting over again in turns of the key strokes from Jaws?
For example, when I open studio, my encoders do not display the names of the radio stations that I previously named.
or is there a tutorial that can assist in this matter?
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks for your help in advance!
Regards,
Thomas.

Hi Thomas,

Lol,  had the exact same thing happen to me about 6 weeks ago. Here’s how to fix things. Kudo’s to Jackie for this fix.

1) Press NVDA+ctrl+g to access the general settings dialog.

2) At this point, you're in a dropdown list. Hit home, then type e for english.

3) Shift tab twice to 'apply' & activate the button.

4) You'll be asked to restart. If you hit enter, NVDA will restart &

your changes should take effect permanently.

Hope this helps

Tony

Hey Amir,

Thanks bro,

I'll try both of the apps this weekend.

Greetings. Like Fluent Reader, Raven Reader is an Electron app. As such, it's also quite accessible -- even a bit more than Fluent Reader I'd say. It's also a good podcast player and can play podcast-oriented items as we open them. Its website is https://ravenreader.app
I've also opened a few issues for Raven Reader on its Github page -- please take a look: https://github.com/hello-efficiency-inc/raven-reader

Hi Deborah and all,

I just checked Switch Synth is on the list of compatible add-ons.

If you cannot or do not want to install the add-on the only other way I know is to define profiles for the other languages and to bind them to triggers/programs or activate them manually.

I wonder how difficult it is to implement a keystroke like NVDA-CTRl-G for changing into the Profiles Management setting and if this might be useful for other scenarios as well.  or if it might be possible to integrate the Switch Synth feature into the core, just thinking aloud here.

If there already is an issue on this on Github, or if this has been discussed before, please let me know.

Thanks and kind regards,

Bianka Brankovic

Add-on Updater 20.10 released, a few notes about upcoming add-on releases #addonrelease

Hello everyone,

Add-on Updater 20.10 is now available. In addition to preparing for future NVDA releases, this version will now check for updates to Zoom Enhancements add-on. As always, you can check for Add-on Updater updates with Add-on Updater (no pun intended).

Additional notes on other add-ons:

  • NVDA 2020.3: As soon as NVDA 2020.3 stable version is released, Add-on Updater will be updated to require NVDA 2020.3. At the same time, Windows 10 App Essentials will be updated to require NVDA 2020.2 as per add-on support policy (current and immediate past releases are supported).
  • Early next year, many of my add-ons will be updated to require NVDA 2020.3 due to many changes that will be used by various add-ons. Affected add-ons will include Enhanced Touch Gestures, StationPlaylist, and Windows 10 App Essentials.

Cheers,

Joseph

NVDA+N,P,S  [NVDA Menu, Preferences, Settings]

The General Settings Pane is what will open first, and the first item in that pane is NVDA Language, which is typically "User default," by default, and is based on the language used on your computer by Windows.  It's a dropdown from which you can pick any one of many languages.

Before doing anything else, use the command control NVDA key r. Unless you have closed the program, the setting hasn't been permanently saved and this will revert the program to settings that you were using previously.

If you have already closed the program and reopened it, I'll write out instructions after asking a question or two.

I don’t know what I am doing wrong but all I seem to be able to do is get up a list of my feeds with no way to access the Feed articles with this app.

Pressing enter or space on the feed  does not deliver any results nor does pressing the tab key. Using the arrow keys simply allow me to review the list of the feeds. Pressing F6 does not deliver  and whilst the menus are accessible they do not appear to allow me to do anything beyond things like setting full screen view.

I have tried object screen and document review but again no joy. Does anybody know how you actually read anything with this  app?
