If by "soft hyphens" you mean splitting words across line ends with hyphens, I'd say yes.  I have no idea why someone would not use the far more typical flowing of whole words across lines.  Having the word "future" broken up as "fu" hyphen line break "ture" is but one example where I would expect problems.  And there are a lot of examples of this sort of hyphenation, and I've not seen it used since the age of the word processor began.  It was at least somewhat common when typewriters were the primary writing method, but not since.

Pranav,

Thanks very much for including the URL of the page where you're experiencing the issue.  For some reason it split across two lines so I'm sending it out again so that anyone who wants to check it out can just click through:

Hi all,

I am on NVDA beta 4. Please see the article at the below link.
Millimetre-precision drug delivery to the brain

Why is espeak sounding strange? It seems to be overemphasizing some letter
sounds.

Is it because of the soft hyphens?

It will work. If it wouldn't, there would have been an announcement on the list that Windows 7 is no longer supported and that it wouldn't work or might not work.

Hi, I’m not sure if the latest version of NVDA will work on windows seven. I don’t see why it wouldn’t. It probably will if you have the proper updates that windows seven has. The last time I used it. I was using NVDA version 19 01 but my 7 box bit the dust and I had to upgrade to win ten.

Hi,

Make sure you have Windows 7 service pack 1 installed on your system. I'm not sure how NVDA works on Windows 7 now, as I'm using Windows 10 myself.

You are saying yes to that user account control thing that comes up when you update or install a program, right? You have to answer yes pretty quickly or the installation won't go through I don't think.

Re: Installation issues

Hi,

Okay, can you try the following:

  1. Run Narrator (press Windows+U to open Ease of Access, then select Narrator).
  2. Run NVDA 2020.2 installer.
  3. After the music is heard, see if Narrator announces things related to NVDA.

If yes, it might be something with your NVDA settings. If not, the installer may have become stuck somewhere.

Cheers,

Joseph

Re: NVDA volume louder on lock screen/secure screens

Quentin Christensen

Have you (in your regular NVDA profile) lowered the "volume" slider within NVDA's speech settings?  If you have changed that, you will need to go into General Settings and press the "Use the currently saved settings on the logon and other secure screens".  NVDA uses a special profile on the lock and other secure screens, so changes you make to your regular profile don't automatically get copied across.

Kind regards
Quentin.

Hi,

The volume of NVDA speech is louder on the lock screen and other secure screens than when I’m in the normal desktop. To make sure the NVDA settings for the secure screens are the same as the normal settings, I’ve selected the option to use these settings on secure screens from the General settings section of NVDA, but the problem remains. I’ve also tried adjusting the Windows volume separately when in a secure screen but the issue just comes right back next time I’m in a secure screen. I only always use the same eSpeak synth and the synth volume is always set to 100%.  Has anyone experienced this and can anyone think of troubleshooting steps I haven’t yet tried? Thanks.

Hiya folks,

Have had an afternoon I’d rather forget trying to update NVDA to its latest version 2020.2

I tried updating within the program and also download the full installation file and both fail each time it tries to go to installing it.

I’ve also uninstalled it and tried it that way still no luck then I could not install an earlier version to I got hold of version 2016.3 then it installed and I could only go up to 2019 and then same issues happened again.

Is anyone else having this issue? Am running a windows 7, 64bit PC.

Regards,

Jim

Ah ok - well most of the thing you noted behaved the same in Chrome as well.  Some were the way the page is setup, and some are a bug, which I reported (feel free to add your version of Edge to that issue to confirm it happens there also).

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hi.  I should have specified that I'm using Microsoft Edge as my browser.

Thanks,

Hi,

Make sure you have Windows 7 service pack 1 installed on your system. I'm not sure how NVDA works on Windows 7 now, as I'm using Windows 10 myself.

Sir,
This is a great share indeed.
Could you please share the direct link to the utility for I have
trouble selecting the one suitable for the Windows version that I am
using. Sorry for the inconvenience.
