I’m trying the mail app. I was using thunderbird but it became sluggish so I decided to try the mail app again. I used to be able to hit enter on a message and it would be read out automatically. Has something changed? Now I have to go to the top of the message, hit insert down-arrow and I can read the message. How can I get messages to read out automatically in the mail app?
Thanks for your help in advance.

You can remove those soft hyphens with an entry in your speech dictionary. Patern (without quotes): “” and replacement empty.

Pranav,
Thanks very much for including the URL of the page where you're experiencing the issue. For some reason it split across two lines so I'm sending it out again so that anyone who wants to check it out can just click through: https://ethz.ch/en/news-and-events/eth-news/news/2020/10/millimetre-precision-drug-delivery-to-the-brain.html -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 It’s hard waking up and realizing it’s not always black and white. ~ Kelley Boorn

Seeking explanation of unusual pronunciation on a webpage
Hi all,
I am on NVDA beta 4. Please see the article at the below link. Millimetre-precision drug delivery to the brain https://ethz.ch/en/news-and-events/eth-news/news/2020/10/millimetre-precision-drug-delivery-to-the-brain.html Why is espeak sounding strange? It seems to be overemphasizing some letter sounds. Is it because of the soft hyphens? Pranav

It will work. If it wouldn't, there would have been an announcement on the list that Windows 7 is no longer supported and that it wouldn't work or might not work.

You are saying yes to that user account control thing that comes up when you update or install a program, right? You have to answer yes pretty quickly or the installation won't go through I don't think. Annette

Re: NVDA volume louder on lock screen/secure screens
Quentin Christensen
Have you (in your regular NVDA profile) lowered the "volume" slider within NVDA's speech settings? If you have changed that, you will need to go into General Settings and press the "Use the currently saved settings on the logon and other secure screens". NVDA uses a special profile on the lock and other secure screens, so changes you make to your regular profile don't automatically get copied across. Kind regards Quentin.
