Thunderbird Quick key folder navigation addon

My thunderbird just installed a update to version 78.3.2. This update once again made the quick key folder addon unreliable. Sometimes it works and other times it does not.

Re: messages aren't read out automatically in the mail app
Hi, An earlier version of this bug was fixed a while ago, but resurfaced after Windows 10 Mail’s executable file was renamed this year. I deployed a fix in Windows 10 App Essentials add-on back in February this year but waited for the new app to go live for everyone in summer before sending an official fix to NV Access for review. The next NVDA version in development (2020.4) will come with a built-in fix. Cheers, Joseph

Matthew.
Are you using NVDA? If so, are you using the latest rc that just came out? I this was fixed inthe bata cycle not sure as I do not have the rc installed and do not rely on the mail app.

yes, this is normal behavior. When you run NVDA from the installer, it uses the preferences stored in your user profile just like an installed version would, Best, Felix Am Mi., 7. Okt. 2020 um 07:01 Uhr schrieb Gene <gsasner@gmail.com>:

There is an open issue about this on the NVDA GitHub repo.

Likewise here. NVDA's volume in the system sound mixer is at 100%, as is NVDA's speech volume on the desktop and secure screens.

I ran the RC version using the continue running option and I find that a lot of things are being used such as my speech dicgtionary, my speech settings, and I see an add-on installed in another version being used in the preferences menu.

Does NVDA automatically import settings from the installed version when you run the installer? This may not be new behavior but I never had an installed version on the machine before. Gene

This is a release candidate, and unless any critical issues are found, this will be identical to the 2020.3 release. I would encourage everyone to test this release please. There are improvements to stability and performance, particularly in Office. eSpeak-NG has been updated, and there are new touchscreen options. We've also added new emulated system keys in the input gestures dialog. Try whatever key you use as your NVDA. Key plus A. I couldn’t think of the name of that key when I was talking with you this morning. Do you use the insert key? I think the shift key is easier. I know you don’t have a lap top. I do. Let me know if this works.

Yes, there is an add-on for the mail app. It’s called windows 10 app essentials or something like that. It’s in the tools section of the NVDA menu.

Hi to all. The subject line says it all. When I now use bard express
after updating NVDA I can now hear the entire annotation when going through a list of books like the recently added books list. This is so cool. I don't have to use the tab key and tab to the annotation field any more. -- Joshua Hendrickson Joshua Hendrickson

Re: Installation issues
Quentin Christensen
Indeed, as Gene said, all versions of NVDA, including the latest NVDA 2020.3 RC1 should work fine on Windows 7. The only caveat, is that since NVDA 2017.4, you need to have Windows 7 Service Pack 1. There is no reason not to use SP1, however if installing Windows 7 from scratch using old installation media, it may not come with SP1 out of the box. Meanwhile, Jim, did you manage to get NVDA installed? Kind regards Quentin.

Hi, David,
I just installed the new add-on for the mail app and that did the trick. Narrator does work well with the mail app but I’d prefer to use NVDA.

Hi rosemarie! I cannot hear the email read out when I press enter either. I have to arrow down through the email, and read it line by line or word by word, just like you read an article. Nvda works best with the Windows 10 mail app. Only nvda works consistently. Jaws keeps reading the title of a message that I have already deleted. Narrator isn't too bad, but nvda works much better in the Windows 10 mail app as your screen reader. That is why I use all three screen readers, nvda, jaws, and narrator. Take care guys sitting on our balcony 65°, a little chilly. David
