Request for Assistance from Members: Groups.io Bounce Notifications

Hello All,

When Groups.io has difficulty sending messages to the e-mail address of record for your Groups.io account, you are sent an e-mail message like this one in the documentation:

https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/10614

That example dates from 2019, so I'm not certain whether any format changes have been made.  As the instructions note toward the end of the message, "To unbounce your account, go to the following link:," where the link to activate is custom generated for a given bounce incident.

What I would like to know is what Groups.io tells you after activating the link, whether that's a message after activation on the page it directs to saying that you have successfully (or unsuccessfully) gotten rid of the bounce, or if you get an e-mail message confirming this.

So the next time any one of you gets a bounce notification, and activates that link, would you mind sending a message to nvda+owner@nvda.groups.io letting me know what sort of response, whether online at the page for the link, or via e-mail, you get once this link is activated?

Thanks.

The plot thickens on waterfox error

Hi.

Well, today after cruising through all my sites including the blogspot one, on waterfox 2020.08 I decided to check the log.

For those interested the link is.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/hkydf6udmda81er/waterfoxerror.log?dl=1

For the rest of you not wanting to break down the log here is the deal.

While there were no rpc errors, garbage collecter generated over 184 errors in a stack.

These seemed to be i accessible windows and other modules.

Here is the thing.

in waterfox 2020.09 this crashed waterfox and froze nvda.

in 08 it does nothing.

Fine, but now that puts the question, what the difference is.

Technically I guess it doesn't matter.

However if nvda is generating errors and can run fine why should it.

Except in the latest waterfox it is actually having an issue with them.

Now granted waterfox does get some updates from mozilla firefox for both its current and classic builds and firefox has had a few small updates to get past some issues, so who knows.

This does put a prospective on the errors though that I have been having.

These look to be web page interaction errors, maybe buffers who knows.

The question, what is the difference betwene the 2 waterfox versions that both get nvda to generate the same error.

The thing is, in 2020.08 nvda doesn't give a damn.

In 09 it does.

I don't know why but if we can find this out maybe we can fix other issues, who knows.

At any rate I will try again once the latest waterfox appears.

And if that continues to continue I'll just stay on 08 for ever.

My security tools I have are probably enough though I was hoping to continue using this brouser as updated as I can, and granted while its a lot better, the random errors and weird crashes turn me off quite quickly.

If it were not for some sites in chrome that have deciman points in prices, ie 19.00 is 1900 where the points seem to be excluded I'd probably switch to chrome, also the way some content is displayed like the hp website in chrome and how it interacts is a bit strange to.

Great catch!  On HP machines, at least, F6, F7, and F8 are all volume control media keys [Mute, Volume Down, and Volume Up, respectively].  The fact that a slider comes up makes me think that F7 is a volume media key and that it's showing where that key press has taken the volume.  I turned the media keys off on my machine, but if you use FN+ the given key it does what it would have in Media Key mode, and a slider always appears if I'm adjusting volume up or down.

Tiflotecnia hasn’t gotten the newer ones, which I’m really looking forward to, if they ever do get them! Angelica from Mexico, Francisca from Chile, US English’ Zoe, and there’s another guy’s voice in US English that I can’t remember!
I collaborate on several blogs and spanish-speaking podcasts online, thus I wish I could have donated a Code Factory license! The trial period ran out! And I really liked its Eloquence! And the voices mentioned before. I could spread the word on those too!

Do you know the fast way to see all the What's New topics? Move through them by heading, use h in the what's new page and you will see the heading for every change or addition. It is very unlikely that a different command would be used for such a well established command.

However, as I understand the question, it was asked because Shaun said something about turning off rread to end, which was unclear. I think he was talking about turning off the automatic reading of web pages after they open, not the reade all command itself.

Hi Quinton, NVDA, A still works, but I thought it might have changed to an improved way. I did restart the computer after updating. I’ve always thought that NVDA, A was awkward, but I’m used to it now. I should go check What’s New after any update. I’ve done it, but there are so many new steps that I usually can’t find what I’m looking for. Maybe I’m just a lazy old thing. Lololol.

Hi Leslie,

If you have NVDA setup in laptop keyboard layout, then NVDA+A should still work for say all. If you are using NVDA in desktop keyboard layout, then the keystroke is NVDA+down arrow.

If you press NVDA+control+k it opens NVDA's keyboard settings and you can check or change your keyboard layout.

Finally, if you find it's not working, have you restarted the PC since you updated NVDA? Try that first and see if it comes back again.

Kind regards

Quentin.

I just updated my NVDA.

Works great 😀

I love the new feature where the touch interaction can be toggled on and off.

And NVDA definitely seems more responsive.

I am currently using Microsoft word and NVDA seems more responsive while typing, reading character by character, etc.

I love it 😀

I've only noticed one thing so far, and it's not necessarily a bad thing either, just something new to adjust to. The pauses after periods are shorter. Sentences feel closer together than they did before when reading. Again, this is something I could become accustomed to with time, and isn't necessarily a problem. I do like the snappy response time very much. :)

Re: waterfox error

Yeah, and thats my frustration.

There are issues in support but I don't know what to do.

I have posted logs here and there are at least 2 github issues.

There are other issues with waterfox on support that I think could be related but I have run on everything from older profiles newer ones, no profiles, no addons, fresh installs as far as I can.

Its either the buffers, a memmory leak or interaction between the brouser.

It can happen as I move through my 20-100 sites a day.

Noscript does actually help keep the crashes down but it can happen straight away, or it can take a few sites and maybe 5-10 minutes to happen.

Or it just happens.

But it is quite random.

I really hate to harp on about this like some selfish asshole but right now I am running out of ideas.

Its got a little better with an amd display driver update, so it could be amd related but who knows.

All the issues seem to be happening on 3-4gen ryzens and rx5000 video cards.

I have a now quite ancient comparitively speaking ryzen 2nd generation.

And most issues are solved with this one.

At least those that don't matter that much.

Now I don't have an intel system to test this thing on which is directly under my control that I want to sacrofice.

After my experience with vmware, its clear what I really need is a system, I can start, monkey with, screw up, reformat, set up, try something else, reformat if it screws and try again.

I thought I could controle stable stuff with my primary and after vmware my confidence is to say the least a bit shaken.

Because I can't.

If I lose imput or output, which can be a fragile thing, then I'm done for.

Same with some other devices.

If I lose input, reformat is the only option unless I have sighted help.

Same with output unless I can get that back assuming like vmware I don't use the entire keyboard or sound card class.

Usually if I got a problem and couldn't fix it, then I'd just reformat and be done with it.

But along came covid and I suddenly realise that the computer is basically the only communication for most of the world.

So in short, mucking round with my primary is pritty much out for probabbly ever.

I'm never loading vmware on there again, not because of this issue but a few other issues which I have blogged about.

In particular the fact you need a my vmware account to access everything and to reset passwords is quite hard.

Not only that but they have support contracts and not much else so I can't even report my issue to vmware, in short, even though it was fun, with the performance boost I got with its removal, I'm seriously rethinking hhow I will be running future tests of anything even with virtual machine software.

I may eventually get another system, one that I can backup some how and just have, and if it screws up then its not going to be a problem.

I technically have the space for one but who knows.

I have the calibre addon and toolbars explorer.

To be honest I didn't think calibre ran within the brouser.

I have the latest version and do use it from time to time for a stand alone converter but if its really a big huuuuuge issue I can probably get rid of it if I need to.

All addons are up to date and this will happen with and without addons on waterfox and nvda.

However it doesn't do anything like this with 2008 which is what I have  gone back to.

Just loaded google and it randomly crashed just as I was entering a google search.

The big thrust of that error was from garbage colecter finding over 73 unreachable objects in run, either this happens or a virtual buffer and other file os error 1700 something something.

The easiest way right now is to use water fox 2020.08.

But if this is actually calibre crashing I could probably do without it because codex uses it as stand alone I think.

I don't use it that much.

This has been going for ages and I have posted in nvaccess and waterfox without any real answer for the last month.

Every so often I try because I think I can get an answer.

Technically I probably don't really have to upgrade waterfox ever, I have an addon blocker in the form of ublock, privacy badger and https everywhere as well as noscript classic so its not like anything will necessarily jump on me.

I also never keep more than 1 net enabled program at one time and will close it otherwise.

No one has had answers and I have been talking with waterfox devs mainly.

Re: News – NV Access - NVDA 2020.3 Released #nvaccessnewsfeed

I really enjoy this version of nvda.

Now the only issue I have is firefox 2020.09.

I can't make the stupid thing crash with this nvda or the nvda before on 08.

So it must be 09, but the devs say its just security updates, yet something must have changed.

I have posted logs here, I have posted 2 githubs both on nvaccess and waterfox and no idea what can be done.

Its just got to be waterfox 09 but I don't know exactly what its all above.

I suspect its got to do with when things refresh, maybe its buffers, when objects are destroyed, timing or a memmory leak somewhere but I'm no programmer.

I can hazzard a guess, but what I really need is someone with the same system or a different system to generate the same errors, it can't be calibre because 08 doesn't cause calibre to do weird things, calibre could be the new addon and who knows.

The program is snappy and works well enough.

Its faster and I do like it.

Works great 😀

NV Access is pleased to announce that version 2020.3 of NVDA,
the free screen reader for Microsoft Windows, is now available
for download. We encourage all users to upgrade to this version.

NVDA 2020.3 includes several large improvements to stability

applications. There are new settings to toggle touchscreen
support and graphics reporting. The existence of marked
(highlighted) content can be reported in browsers, and there
are new German braille tables.

Please note, after updating any software, it is a good idea to
restart the computer. Restart by going to the Shutdown dialog,
selecting “restart” and pressing ENTER. Updating software can
change files which are in use. This can lead to instability
and strange behaviour which is resolved by rebooting. This is
the first thing to try if you do notice anything odd after
updating.

I don't think Calibre should be too problematic, I just noticed one or two of those errors mentioned it.  Re Waterfox, yes I've seen reports of issues with the latest update to it.  It does sound like the latest Waterfox update is problematic.

What keystroke would you prefer?

Also, you can assign a new keystroke if you prefer, in NVDA's "Input Gestures" dialog.  See the User Guide for more information: https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/documentation/userGuide.html#InputGestures

Quentin.

I also like the new version of NVDA. It has been my primary
screen-reader for quite a while. In my opinion, NVDA is about as good
a screen-reader as jaws is. I will continue to use it and when I have
to get a computer with windows10 on it I'm going to have NVDA as my
primary screen reader and updated jaws as a secondary one. Keep up
the great work guys and one feature that I like, is now I can read the
complete annotation of an NLS book when I'm using bard express. That
is one more reason why I like NVDA. Before this update, you had to
use jaws if you wanted to hear that info. When I used NVDA, I had to
tab to the annotation and listen to it. Keep up the great work guys.

A number of the errors in there appear to relate to Calibre rather than Firefox.  Calibre.exe appears to be in a directory called "Calibre2" - which version are you using?  Calibre, the eBook reader / converter, is currently at version 5.2.0.

Also, are you using any NVDA add-ons?

I love it 😀

It's working great here too. I love the snappy response too.

NVDA 2020.3 Released

By NV Access

NV Access is pleased to announce that version 2020.3 of NVDA, the free screen reader for Microsoft Windows, is now available for download. We encourage all users to upgrade to this version.

NVDA 2020.3 includes several large improvements to stability and performance, particularly in Microsoft Office applications. There are new settings to toggle touchscreen support and graphics reporting. The existence of marked (highlighted) content can be reported in browsers, and there are new German braille tables.

Please note, after updating any software, it is a good idea to restart the computer. Restart by going to the Shutdown dialog, selecting “restart” and pressing ENTER. Updating software can change files which are in use. This can lead to instability and strange behaviour which is resolved by rebooting. This is the first thing to try if you do notice anything odd after updating.

While downloading NVDA, please consider becoming a monthly donor. Contributions like yours help NV Access continue our important work.

We also have a range of training material in the NV Access Shop to help you increase your skills with NVDA. Start with the popular Basic Training for NVDA in electronic text, audio and braille. Save with the NVDA Productivity Bundle. This includes Basic Training, all our Microsoft Office training, and telephone support.
