I'm not sure why you can't see text in Notepad using Narrator. I can in Windows 7 and I would think you should be able to in Windows 10.

See if this solves the problem. You can use the screen-reader you usually use. When in the program, maximize the window, alt space bar, then x. Does that solve the problem? Gene

I have just tried using Narrator but Narrator seemed unable to navigate within the document area of Notepad ++ I do not have another screen reader except Narrator.... I cannot try this with another one. Can any one else confirm this as a nvda bug or notepad ++ bug? Thanks. Gene 於 13/11/2020 23:02 寫道:
No, but I doubt this is an NVDA problem. Its probably a Notepad problem since that is a Notepad command. You can check this by testing with another screen-reader.

Hi. I had the same problem after my service provider migrated their service over to the Google platform, even after I'd activated the "Set Basic HTML as default" link. I'm using Microsoft Edge. I talked to my service provider's Technical Support department, and they sent me a link that tells the server to load Basic HTML as the default. I've posted it below my name. I hope this helps.

Re: Navigation between windows stops when you press the Windows key plus a number combination.
hurrikennyandopo ...
Hi
Yep it opens any of the items there in the running applications area. they are not actually open like a window until you say do windows key + 7 then it will come up. That is the one for my anti virus.
The windows key + letter T will take you to the task bar then you can also use the arrow keys to find what you want then press the enter key on it to open it up.
If you do have windows open use the alt/tab key and it will go between 2 windows.. If you keep on holding down the alt key while tabbing it will take you between all windows open.

Re: trouble switching to basic mode in Gmail

Confirmed. I’ve done this with both Jaws and NVDA. Not at once. I did use them both one at a time. Gene’s right. It is usually the first link you see. With my old windows 7 I had to refresh the page a bunch of times. Jaws 14 sometimes did not work well on the gmail site. I used the whatever version of NVDA to get the job done. Now with windows ten I can use either one.

It is at the very top of the page, the first line. At least that's where I see a button that says Basic HTML View using Chrome. My experience, however, is that this button doesn't work reliably to change the view when you open the web page again. If I switch to standard view, I have to press the button every time I open the web page. I don't know if others have that experience and I think I've seen instances where that isn't necessary, but you may find it so, based on my experience.

Navigation between windows stops when you press the Windows key plus a number combination.
Daniele Casarola
Hi,
maybe you had the same issue and you can help me. On my task bar at the second position I have the icon of Windows File Manager. I usually have three or four windows open at the same time of the File Manager, each of which points to a different folder on my computer. Pressing on the keyboard the shortcut Windows Key plus number 2, I easily open the first File Manager window, and the focus is inside this window. Pressing Windows Key plus twice number 2 I open the second File Manager window and so on. So if for example I'm reading something on a web browser window and I want to switch to the second File Manager window, I simply press Window Key plus twice number 2 and the focus moves directly inside this window. It is a fast and easy way to navigate directly into a specific window. Basically it works. But for an unknown reason after some hours I'm working, it doesn't work properly anymore. This happens: 1. The focus is on a web browser window. 2. I press Windows Key plus number 2 twice. 3. On the task bar is open the preview window of all File Manager windows opened. It is not directly opened the second File Manager window. Basically it is the same effect as you press Window Key plus T, then you move with the Right arrow on the File Manager window and finally you press Up arrow to enter inside the list of opened File Manager window. What I have to do at this point is to press left or right key to choose which window I want to open and then press Space Bar key. It is pretty boring, because I switch continuously from one window to another. The File Manager window is just an example. the result it is the same if I have multiple istances of Microsoft Excel window, or Mozilla Firefox window. I have the feelling it is not depending from the Screen Reader, but it is a Window Operating System issue, maybe a graphic issue? I've removed all graphic effect, but with no result. Anyway, somebody who had the same issue solved in some way? I'm using NVDA at the last version and Windows 10 64 bit last update on a desktop PC. The same anyway it is also on the laptop with Windows 10. Thanks a lot.

Re: trouble switching to basic mode in Gmail
Gene
I had to refresh the page when I was playing with this after I sent my message. Another list member said that you have to refresh the page sometimes. Its much more convenient to use a Chrome-based browser such as Chrome or Brave or Edge if you want to have easy access to the button. I have Firefox on my machine in case it works better on this or that site, but my experience is that, in general, Chrome-based browsers crash less and work better with screen-readers when moving through text. Sometimes, on The New York Times page, when I move by headings to move from article to article, there are movement problems where you try to move but stay where you are instead. I haven't played to see if this is common, there may be something about that site, but regardless, Chrome browsers work better with screen-readers.
