Re: How do I copy tables from a webpage while preserving their formatting

Hmmm, sounds interesting, I didn't know that it is possible to copy a whole table from a webpage using NVDA, though I tried the f8 key as suggested but nothing happens.

How do I copy tables from a webpage while preserving their formatting

Alexandre Alves Toco

F8 to select tables is a jaws command. It doesn’t work in nvda unfortunatelly!

I would vote for this issue if it exists...

With the cursor on the line that says something like "five columns

and three rows", press f8.  That will select the whole table with

formatting.  Copy and paste it into the Word document.

Hello NVDA Community:

I am forwarding this message that I sent to the NVDA Con email list to the community at large. As a result of what has transpired, if the community wishes me to step down from continuing to administrate this group, I will happily do so. Please send your comments and thoughts to me individually, or the owner address. I will lock this thread from discussion, and wish anyone wishing to comment to do so privately or to the owner email address.

Hello Robert and NVDA Con team:

First, thank you for all your efforts in putting together NVDA Con. NVDA Con went about as well as it could have. I am thankful to all of your efforts.

For my part in the chaos of the opening forum, I would like to apologize.
• I attempted to come on opening forum, and explain why I believed that Teamtalk is not an ideal platform. Moderation is not as powerful as it is on other platforms, users find TeamTalk fiddly with audio particularly when or if they unplug and plug in devices, etc, TeamTalk doesn't really have echo cancellation, NVDA Con is an international conference and should not be pleased with 60 participants, particularly when more than half were organizers, moderators, and NVAccess staff, and so on. I feel very strongly that TeamTalk is a very poor choice of platform for an international conference, and I have brought this up repeatedly over the years.
• Instead of being given the opportunity to speak, I was interrupted, and organizers defended TeamTalk as being a great platform.
• I was unprofessional in my attempts to illustrate, during a small part of the opening forum, why it is a bad idea to use TeamTalk as a platform at this point. I used various nicknames, and adjusted my gain level pretty high, and caused echo while others were attempting to speak, particularly for those individuals who were attempting to interrupt me from speaking. This is not good for an international forum, and I apologize for this. I did not repeat this for the remainder of the conference, and will not do so again.

Even in this thread exchange, I am seeing organizers still say that TeamTalk is a good choice for hosting a conference. Even with all that happened during opening forum, even with the keynote running into the issues that it ran into, we still see people defending TeamTalk as a platform. I was unable to enjoy the keynote live as I kept being kicked out and needed to rejoin a number of times. Each time, because of the number of users, there was a noticeable lag, and at one point, NVDA crashed. This is on a quite powerful modern machin with 16 GB of ram and a gigabit Internet connection.

If the cost of running a Zoom room for the conference is as stated in this thread, for ten moderators, and if it then allows for streaming things like the keynote to Youtube, and if it allows greater flexibility and ability of users, developers, and interested parties all around the world to join, and if it can better enable NVDA con to reach many more users, thus being more representative of the NVDA community, then that cost is a small one to pay. If NVAccess cannot get a lower rate by working with Zoom, I am happy to donate the cost for this for next year's con. Recording would be simpler, many of the audio issues would be sorted, moderators have substantially more control, and audio quality for certain events can be enhanced with minimal jitter issues, disconnects, drop-outs, and issues with the time it takes to reconnect. Presenters and participants can easily connect by phone call, mobile app, on the web, using desktop apps on Windows, Mac, and Linux, and so on. I don't really frankly understand why there is still a question of whether this is or is not a good idea.

Again, I hope the organizers will accept my apologies for contributing to the issues with the opening forum. Thank you all for your hard work into this year's con.

Hi, I’m not American. You are right Internet explorer is not supported by many sites. Drop box doesn’t use it. I would try uloo with Chrome or fire fox or edge. I don’t use Internet Explorer for that reason!

Hi there. I have a couple questions. Is your window maximized? Also, what browser are you using? Things do not seem to work as well any more in Internet explorer, since it is deprecated. If you can, try Hulu in Firefox, or Chrome.

Something similar happened with the Netflix site here in the U.S. One day it was working just fine and then, suddenly, the edit field for searching for a movie disappeared.  I complained and talked directly to one of the individuals who answers questions about the service. It took more than a week, but eventualy the problem was fixed and the edit field suddenly re-appeared one day.

This is another of the classic situations where eliminating possible issues is the only way to go.

If you typically use one browser, then use another.  Is the (mis)behavior the same?   Yes, then suspect the screen reader next. No, suspect something's gone south with your favorite screen reader.

Uninstall and reinstall of "the most likely culprit" after some process of elimination has taken place is the next step.  If that doesn't fix the issue, suspect something could be wrong with something with the webpage itself.  You cannot rule out that the web page designers at Hulu might not have done something entirely bone-headed.  It's been known to happen.

If you happen to have convenient sighted assistance that's been around when you've used the site in the past (and a screen has been there for them to see, even in passing) it's worth asking whether there is any immediately noticeable change.  If something's really obviously changed . . .

In a case like this, that should be one of the first things to try. I hope it works if you try it.

I’m using the web and I’ve done all the stuff you suggested. The phone rep took me through 15 million things to do an none worked. I’m on the computer chatting with an agent now and he gave me a link for screen reader feedback. I thought about uninstalling and reinstalling nvda.

If this is done via the web, and I have to presume it is, clear your browser's cache, exit the browser, and start it and try again.

A web search on your chosen browser's name with "clear cache" will turn up hundreds to thousands of step-by-step instruction sets.

Having the mouse follow the blinking cursor with arrow keys

hurrikennyandopo ...

Hi guys

Not sure how to explain this correctly but I will give it a try. here in New Zealand there is a free tvnz on demand service where you can go  in and watch shows etc but as you arrow down the page a few of the shows are in slides and just say new season new eposode or movie.

This is use less information if you do not know what the name of the show is.

But it seems if i route the mouse to where it says new season for every show it seems to say what the show is and what it is about. I know it is probably not hard to route the mouse to every one but was wondering and not sure if the fgolden cursor can do it or not but is there a way for the mouse to follow as you arrow down the screen in this case for each show so I do not have to route the mouse each time.

I was just using the arrow keys to go down the page and see what some of the shows were but only when the mouse was routed to that position to bring up I think some type of pop up.

Re: Unable to access Auto-play options when connecting my flash drive

Hi

Do the following press the windows key and in the search box type con then press the enter key.

When the control panel comes up then press the letter A for autoplay or you will have to get to it depending how you have it set then press the enter key.

When the next screen comes up make sure the first box is ticked then go through your settings for each device and set them to your preference. There is also a setting right down the bottom where you can run software of a cd or install it if I remember right not that many of us do it that way now.

The directions sitll work on the latest version of windows 10.

hope it helps.

I just had to do this.  I went into Auto Play settings, done within
Control Panel, Settings, or by entering Auto Play in the search box.
You can then tab over to different options such as DVD, SD Cards, etc.
and use up and down arrows to choose a default action for each.
