Re: word perfect
Ron Canazzi
Hi Group,
I am a bit late on this thread, but here's my two cents. I used Word Perfect 5.0, 5.1 for DOS. Then I used 6.0 and 6.1 for Windows. This was before Corel bought it. I used Word Perfect 12.0 as late as 2010 and it was largely accessible--at least in so far as the Word Perfect program itself--I mean the editor. Quatro Pro and (wow it's been so long I forget what the oither elements of the suite were called) were limited in their accessibility. But if you wanted to use the main editor called Corel Word Perfect 12, it was quite accessible. This was a long time ago, if possible, see if you can get a demo of the program and check its accessibility, you might be surprised. And then again, who knows? On 12/19/2020 3:22 PM, Robert Doc

corell bought Word Perfect. though it is basically
accessible it has one major problem. you cannot select with NVDA. I typed some
text and then placed the cursor at the beginning of that text and pressed
shift+end and the text disappeared. even shift left arrow seems to delete the
text.
i was going through their tutorial and they asked
me to access the header/footer bar. i could not find it with screen review. Nor
did any bar appear when reading the entire window.

Well wordperfect I am not sure. there are 2 versions, coral wordperfect which I have never really used. Or wordperfect from my oldgames.7z in my dos thing, I have not actually bothered installing the load of 720 floppies but one could try it I guess.

Re: How to get NVDA to read password notification in Edge
The question is about Chromium-based Microsoft Edge, so I'm asking the cohort to stick to that browser.
And the specific question is how to throw screen reader focus to the pop-up notification for saving a password when a password for a site without one previously saved is first accessed and the password entered AND the option for saving passwords in the Edge browser remains on. I still can't answer the central question, as I turn off password management in any web browser, and I don't want to turn it back on for experimentation. If someone is using password management in Chromium-based Edge and knows how to throw focus to that pop-up message when it pops-up, please share. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 20H2, Build 19042 [Regarding the Supreme Court refusing to hear the case brought by Texas to overturn the votes certified by 4 states:] Pleased with the SCOTUS ruling, but also immediately slightly terrified of where this crazy train goes next. As I recall, the discussion was originally about Firefox. What I discussed was regarding Firefox. I had thought, though I've seen such things very little since I turn automatic password prompts off in all browsers, but my recollection is that if I hear alert and screen-reader readable text is present, if I just do nothing, the alert will be read along with the shortcut commands. When you hear the word alert, do you just immediately stop doing anything or do you do something?
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I'm not sure if you can find alert text in browsers by moving by f6, though I have found it in this or that browser. But when you hear the word alert, if you want to see if something is read, just stop briefly. Also, there arte times when I hear the word alert and nothing is spoken that is of any use and where I can't find any screen-reader readable text. I generally ignore alert announcements of the sort if I hear them in future in similar circumstances. Gene

I heard that too. When I had my first computer another blind user told me not to have your computer remember your password. I never have it remember the password. I notice with NVDA I have to hit the f 6 to get to where I want. When I used jaws I’d hit enter and it will go.

How many times did you do f6. You may need to do it more than once. You need to do f6 to move through all the different what are called panes of a window until you return to where you started.

If you don't want to be asked for each site, you can set the program not to ask you. I assume you are running the latest version of the program. Do the following: Open the tools menu with alt t. Open options by typing o. After a pause the options page will start to be read. If you aren't in the search field, tab or shift tab to it. Press enter in the edit field. Type password and start to tab. You will get to a checkbox that says something like remember passwords or ask to remember passwords. Uncheck it with the space bar. There is no ok button. Close the browser as usual or go on to another page as usual. You will no longer be asked. Gene
