Re: Is anyone using a password manager?

Nimer Jaber

Hello,

I have tried many of these things out, including Lastpass, 1Password, Dashlane, Roboform, Bitwarden, and Keypass, as well as other Keypass derivatives. Dashlane is not accessible, roboform is painful, Keypass requires using another cloud service to sync your database which is more work and, in my view, not as safe as you are now trusting your own back-up and another cloud provider other than your Password manager with all your passwords, although some may feel differently about that. Another issue with Keypass is the mobile apps are 3rd-party apps. Lastpass used to be more accessible, and it is usable at present, but it has gotten more painful. They have also had a number of security breaches over the years, so I've stopped using them. Bitwarden is usable, but its desktop apps aren't accessible, and its Android app for auto-fill is fine, but 1Password is better. I have interacted with the 1password devs on a number of occasions through their forum, and through Twitter. They do care about accessibility, their desktop apps are accessible and offer keyboard shortcuts, they work on all platforms with equal accessibility, and they are quite secure. They are also very highly rated, and give the option to use your own cloud provider if you wish, or to use them to help sync your data. Their extension, 1Password X, is usable, but it has a way to go, and could do with more keyboard shortcuts. The one benefit of using that particular extension is the integration with privacy.com for creating virtual cards, which is a service I also use.

By the way, if you would like a demo on 1Password and Bitwarden on Windows, Android, or iOS, check out the BlindTechGuys podcast as about a month ago, we had a number of podcasts where these two password managers were demoed and discussed. www.blindtechguys.com.

To tie all of this to NVDA, 1Password is the easiest to use with NVDA with the desktop app, but Lastpass and Bitwarden are doable, as is Keypass. Unfortunately, Dashlane is not usable.

Thanks.

I had the problem of sluggishness but when I unchecked the status bar, that solved the problem. It's slow at first when I open it but once all the messages are downloaded, it works perfectly with     NVDA.

I don't know what the problem may be. for now, write e-mails in Notepad and paste them into a message you have begun.

While I don't have a solution, try Thunderbird portable. That will allow you to keep your current installed version and test to see if the problem is Thunderbird or NVDA.

You can download Thunderbird portable here:

If yu have problems finding the download link, ask here. You don't need to download anything but the actual portable program.

SPL settings will not show under preferences unless you run Studio. This is intentional, as the settings dialog for the SPL add-on is specific to Studio.

  1. Open Studio.

To prevent that happening, press ALT+f to open the file menu, press the down arrow key three times to get to the Info menu, press Tab to enter that menu and then press the down arrow to get to the Protected View menu. Press Tab again and you'll be on the Enable Editing option and, if you press enter, that document will become unprotected and the NVDA user should no longer hear the warning that the document is protected and can't be edited. It will remain unprotected even after you close the document or shut down the computer. The same works with Excel files :)

Re: Excel 2016: Formulas

Just curious if you're entering the formula in the cell or the forumula box once the cell is selected, or have perhaps tried both?

NVDA is not hanging for me, but, it had might as well be.  Whether in the cell itself, or the formula box, if I type the equal sign then start typing the word, sum, I'll get an announcement for equal sign but then everything goes silent.  I don't have letter by letter announcement as I type turned on, but even after the formula is complete (or even partially complete) and I hit space I'd expect what's there to be read, but it's not.

In the formula bar itself the behavior is the same when initially entering the formula, but if you revisit a cell later, and throw focus to the formula bar afterward, the formula is read correctly.

Also, if I start entering equal sign and have typed the S and U of sum, and begin down arrowing through the dropdown list of summation functions, these are not announced.  I always get equals su (the letters I've typed, rather than the thing in the dropdown that has focus).

I'm using Excel 2016 and 2020.beta4.

I unchecked the checkboxes that say confirm when emulating copy and confirm when emulating cut. I don't know what these items do, because I don't see why you would want to emulate copy and cut when they can be done as Windows functions. Aside from that, I use Clipspeak and unchecking the emulating check boxes causes it not to speak. the only way I've found to satisfactorily stop the confirmation dialog is to disable the add-on.

I looked and that checkbox is unchecked by default. I am still prompted
when it is unchecked.

That list of check boxes isn't discussed or mentioned in the help as I
recall and I read the help more than once. While some of the items are
selfexplanatory, briefly describing the options in the list or the ones that
aren't would, I expect, be helpful to many users.

hi,
you could go to “Select the actions which require previous confirmation”
list in the clipp contents designer settings, and uncheck “Confirm to add
text”.
Hope that helps.

Hi guys:

Since I obtained the clipboard addon for nvda,

Every time I do a ctrl-c to copy data to the clipboard,

I get a dialogue asking me to confirm that I really wish to copy it;

How do I turn this dialogue verification off?

I went into clip designer in settings but I only found three choices in the
“confirm copy when”

Always, when clipboard contains text, and when clipboard is not empty.

I do not see a choice for “never ask”.

Please advise as you like.
