Issue with addon updater

Vaibhav Bhandari

Hi guys,
So I manually updated my Sentence Nav and Tony's Enhansements addons
from 2.7 to 2.9 and 1.4 to 1.8 respectively. Now, I also have
installed the addon updater addon and now whenever I am starting NVDA,
it is asking me to update my addons from version 2.9 to 2.7 and 1.8 to
1.4. Does anyone have any idea regarding why it is happening?

Inaccessibility of certain web pages in Chromium-based browsers

Louise Pfau

Hi.  I've noticed that certain websites appear to have accessibility issues in chromium-based browsers like Edge and Chrome.  I don't know if it's the screen reader (either JAWS or NVDA), the specific website, chromium-based browsers, or all of the above.  An instance that comes to mind is the tv guide website for my service provider at https://www.telus.com/en/tv/optik/tv-listings.  After you search for a specific show and then try to activate the link that appears as the name of the show, it won't activate.  The links appeared to activate correctly in Internet Explorer, which is the only non-chromium browser I have installed, although I know it's no longer supported.  In addition, the page doesn't seem to load completely in Edge  Version 87.0.664.75 (Official build) (64-bit), although it loaded correctly in Chrome Version 88.0.4324.96 (Official Build) (64-bit) with Windows 10 Version 2004 (OS Build 19041.746).  I'm running NVDA 2020.3.  I recently had access to another computer, and the site loaded correctly.  I don't know the exact specifications of the other machine.

Thanks,

Louise

Re: Some topic in the main group indicate that they're from chat

Louise Pfau

Hi.  The topic about accessing the bios with a screen reader would be a better example of what I'm talking about.  I didn't realize that messages could be moved from chat to the main group.  I found it when I was reading through the E-mails in my in-box, rather than searching the archive.

Thanks,

Louise

Re: Some topic in the main group indicate that they're from chat

Louise Pfau

Hi Brian.  I'm sorry.  It looked like the topic "Chat, NVDA, and Manamon" dated January 12, 2021 was a chat message because the word "Chat" had been placed in the subject line.  I couldn't find another example, because I'm having difficulty limiting the search results from the archive to more recent entries with the text [chat] entered into the edit box.  I was the one who misdirected an inquiry about accessibility with Windows Live Mail to the main group, because in some ways I find Windows Live Mail more user-friendly than the gMail web interface.

Thanks,

Louise

You may be using a version of the add-on that is too old. If so, you will get a message saying something like, not in a message list. If you are experiencing another problem, I'm not sure what the cause might be.

Unfortunately this doesn't appear to work with newer Thunderbird versions. The key definition is still assigned but the action no longer works.

This is also the case with the latest compiled addon from GitHub.

I’m using TB 78.6.1, NVDA 2020.3 and it works as disigned, The only problem I found at my end was the overlapping hotkey NVDA-H which was already used by the addon screen wrapping.

I just tested it in a portable version of Thunderbird 78.6, as well as here in Thunderbird 60.0, and, both worked fine?

But, don't have newer versions of thunderbird installed directly, so, yes, could cause hassles there?

Re: Using tracking changes in Word and NVDA

Quentin Christensen

Janet,

I'm so sorry, yes of course it is control+shift+e.  I'm not sure what I was thinking when I wrote the first reply!

Track changes only monitors changes made while the feature is active.  If track changes was on when a change was made, NVDA will read it as you navigate.  If there are changes not being reported, it is likely that track changes was not enabled when that change was made

So, if I have a document with "Hello Fred" in it, if I turn on track changes, delete "Hello" and type "Goodbye".  As I read that line, NVDA will read "Deleted Hello, Inserted Goodbye, Not inserted Fred".

If I turn off track changes, then delete Fred and type Jane, NVDA will read: "Deleted Hello, Inserted Goodbye, Not inserted Jane".

Also if you "accept" or "reject" any changes, the text will either be changed or reverted, and either way will no longer appear as a change.

If you can give me an example where you have Track changes on, Word is recording the change and NVDA is not reporting it, I'd be interested to investigate.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hi Janet,

Press control+shift+r to turn track changes on or off.  While on, any change you make to the document is recorded and can be approved or rejected later.

With NVDA in browse mode (NVDA+spacebar) you can jump between tracked changes as annotations (a or shift+a).  You can then use the context menu to accept or reject individual changes.
