A screen reader can't enforce what it doesn't know about, and leaving out vital information, e.g., role=dialog, out makes that impossible. Another option would be to use Microsoft 365 for $99 a year for five licenses.

Naybe not of the highest importance, but the font colour dialogue became inaccessible as newer versions were intorduced, for a while object navigation could be used, but even that failed in the end. Perhaps an older version of Libre office would be more suitable until this can be resolved, if it is important to useres.

Another option is
SoftMaker FreeOffice with the caveats that you must install it with its setup for a menu driven interface (rather than ribbons, which in its case are entirely inaccessible for some reason) and you may need sighted help during install to do that, though
I believe someone may have given instructions on getting around the one dialog where you select this that was not accessible "on the surface." I'd have to search the archive. Re: Navigating A Web Page

OK, I looked briefly at the site, and it appears that the site is not fully implementing the dialog in an accessible way.
First, when using a dialog like this, one should break the lock focus rule and only allow tab to move you within the buttons in the dialog, since other buttons and links are not active. Also, the region of the web page that is a dialog, should be labeled with “role=dialog”. Which can tell the browse cursor to stay in the dialog. I am not sure how NVDA handles this, but I expect it at least tells you that you have left a dialog. I also noticed that I was not getting descriptions for graphics, I am on a new machine, so It is possible that my graphics verbosity is not configured correctly to ignore images with a null alt attribute, but I certainly seemed to encounter a few unlabeled graphics on the site. Re: Creating an Issue in GitHub for NVDA
In addition to the original step-by-step tutorial: Creating an Issue in GitHub for NVDA
an additional one has been created (and is also linked to in the above noted tutorial), Collecting NVDA Debugging Information to Report to NVAccess, for those who may find themselves asked to get debug level log information in order to assist in solving an issue they're having. Both download in MS-Word docx file format. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 20H2, Build 19042 The depths of denial one can be pushed to by outside forces of disapproval can make you not even recognize yourself to yourself. ~ Brian Vogel

libreoffice but with libre office you can't read charts and graphs and do some of the things you can do with Microsoft office. it is OK, but NVDA is best with Microsoft office. You can subscribe to Microsoft office for $70 a year. Office 365.

Re: Limit to number of messages in groups.io E-mail threads

Yes, all that is true, but I noticed that even with some messages with
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
the same subject line threading doesn't always work the way I would expect it to. I think this happens most often when someone does not reply to the most recent message, but an older one. Another recent example is my Bluetooth thread from a month or so ago, which got split in two by Gmail.

You asked about the Enhanced Phonetic Reading add-on back in July, and I wonder if you turned this on via the add-on. This is one I have never played with, but that's where I'd look first.

I don't know why it wasn't muerged into one big thread, but it wasn't.- It was, in the archive, but that's the only place that a topic that's been split, whether accidentally or intentionally, can be merged back together. All it takes is the person sending a reply making a single character change in the subject of the message, or correcting a spelling or capitalization, or similar, for a single topic to be split into two as far as e-mail clients are concerned. And those who reply to the original topic will show up on that topic, and those who reply to any message in a revised subject topic will end up on that one. There is no way for any list administrator to fix that, as e-mail threading itself is what causes that split. That is why I have, on multiple groups, asked people to avoid changing subject lines. And on those occasions where I need to re-title a topic so that future archive searchers are likely to find it, I always send out a message with the revised title and ask all who wish to respond from that point forward to use that message, or one that is a direct response to it, as the thing to reply to, not the original. I spend a lot of time merging topics split by members, whether by intent or by accident. But I can only make them come together again in the archive, not in email clients. And if a member takes a topic that you've muted or unfollowed, and changes the subject line, it will appear again because it is considered a new topic, both by e-mail clients and groups.io. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 20H2, Build 19042 The depths of denial one can be pushed to by outside forces of disapproval can make you not even recognize yourself to yourself. ~ Brian Vogel

Is NVDA good with Libre Office or Open Office?
I searched the forum for this and found some problems with NVDA and Libre Office or Open Office. Is anyone happy using current versions of these programs with NVDA? My friend has used Office 2010 for years but is changing computers and wants to update to Office 2019. He must update two computers so expense is an issue. Thanks for your advice. Milton

You could try direct sound API – it has limitations but probably wouldn’t affect you and many older applications (including stuff like winamp) still use it. As an experiment, you could try turning off JAWS and see if you still get an error when trying to record. Wasapi-enabled applications are supposed to be able to take exclusive control of the sound device, though I don’t see any options in GW for doing this and it’s been a while since I played with such things. Obviously, to have speech going through the same device while using Goldwave, this isn’t something that you want.
