Re: Pause When Changing Paragraphs in Say All

Hi,

i got some result using the speech dictionary, in regular expression mode, replacing
$
with
... ... ... ... ..
there may be some side effects, though, as there is no way to limit it to the say all function. Maybe a better pattern could be something like [\.":;]\s*$

I'm not doubting what you're saying, but I'm at a loss to explain it.

I am certain this has been discussed numerous times on this very group, and that it has worked for most who've gone that route.  Even though the tutorial was JAWS focused, the same technique to define column and row headers in Excel itself applies regardless of screen reader and NVDA has been known to read headers so created.

Add-on version 21.02: Add-on Updater, Windows 10 App Essentials #addonrelease

Hi all,

Version 21.02 of the following add-ons are now available (check for updates in half an hour from now):

  • Add-on Updater: Quick Dictionary update checking is now possible, along with small tweaks to add-on update check mechanism.
  • Windows 10 App Essentials: requires Windows 10 Version 2004 (May 2020 Update/build 19041) or later, and initial support for updated emoji panel in Insider Preview build 21296 or later.

Special note on Add-on Updater: if everything goes as planned, the next version of the add-on (21.03) will require NVDA 2020.4. This is in line with support policy for this add-on: Add-on Updater requires latest stable version of NVDA.

Cheers,

Joseph

You need to use object navigation. Screen review is much more limited in Windows 10 for technical reasons someone else will have to explain. When you use NVDA key b, you are actually reading all the objects available to the program.

I have found the NVDA screen review inconsistent and I am trying to figure out why and how to get around the problem.

Try this experiment:
1. Type Windows with R to issue the Run Command
2. Type an invalid drive letter say M: or I: and press enter.
An Error message will appear.
3. Use Insert numpad 1 or Insert Numpad 7 to switch to screen review (you do not want to be in object review).
4. Use the 8 and 9 numpad keys to read the error message.
This works fine.

Now press Windows I to go to settings.
1. Arrow down and right to Update and Security.
2. Use Insert-B to read the entire screen. That works..
3. But now try these review mode commands to review the screen.
Insert 1 or 7 to make sure you are in Screen review mode
7 8 and 9 on the numeric keypad to read the top, current and following lines and keep pressing 9.
You will only hear the word "Bottom".
They do not work. You cannot read the Windows update screen in settings using screen review.
You can explore your computer with object review, but I can't figure out how to read that screen, slowly at my own pace with the screen review mode.

Why is this? When focus cannot go to all areas of a screen, how can I read what's there? Or even if focus can go there, how can I select and copy with NVDA-F9 and F10 or read it slower?

Sound themes, compatibility with Alphas NVDA versions

Wagner Soares Da Silva

Hello, I use the Alphas versions of NVDA.

Also, in my daily life, I use the sound theme, the objsounds.

It turns out that all sound themes are no longer compatible with the latest Alphas from NVDA.

Could someone forward this message to the developer of this addon so that I can make it compatible with Alphas again?

Thank you!

Re: Excel 365: Adding Note on Cell

Quentin Christensen

SHIFT+F2 overrides the Excel function with an accessible note editor (when that keystroke is detected, not when the function is launched via the context menu, so you need to use the keystroke).

Note for anyone not familiar, this is about adding a note to a cell which isn't seen by default but is like a comment in Word - basically a message from a reviewer to a spreadsheet creator or between two users, rather than manipulating the contents of the cell itself.  So might be used to note a limitation in the formula used, for instance.

Hi Louise,

I usually try to announce new beta versions at least here on the list, and on Twitter and Facebook, as well as in our In-Process blog: https://www.nvaccess.org/category/in-process/.  New stable releases get announced on a few other lists as well.

You can find the release announcement for NVDA 2020.4 beta 4 (the latest beta) on our website:

If you install a beta version, it will automatically prompt to update additional beta versions, the release candidate versions, and then finally to the4 next stable release.

Kind regards

Hi Louise

Apologies for continuing this thread but the reason I’m interested is because my system behaves exactly the same as yours.  In my case I changed my default browser to Brave but the User Guide always opened in Edge.  The part I don’t understand about your explanation is that you say you open the User Guide from the main NVDA web site, which is something I have never done.  I always press NVDA+n to open the NVDA menu, then press h to open the Help menu, then press enter as the User Guide is the first item on the list.  What browser is opened when you do this?

Cheers

Hi.  I was referring to the link to the user guide on the main NVDA website.  I don't feel comfortable using the advanced repair tools myself that were mentioned earlier in this thread without assistance.  I agree that this behaviour is idiosyncratic, particularly in view of the fact that Edge is set as my default browser.

Thanks,

Louise

Hi.  Are the NVDA beta announcements only made on the discussion list?

Thanks,
